Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a Maine resident.
  3. Must be a member of the Appraisal Institute or have a parent/legal guardian who is a member.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

Description: This scholarship is available for Maine undergraduate and graduate students who are members of the Appraisal Institute or have a parent/legal guardian who is a member.

Application requirements for the Montello-Sawyer Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Additional info. to assist in selection
Additional Information: Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and financial need. Applications will be reviewed and the final applicant selected by the scholarship committee of The State of Maine Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. The members of that committee will be the past chapter president, the chair of the education committee, and one member of the Richard Lewis Sawyer family.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online on the website of the Maine Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a one-page letter describing why he/she should be selected for this scholarship and information that can be used in the selection process, such as transcripts, recommendations, and/or a statement of financial need. The completed application must be sent to the address provided and received by the deadline date.
