Number of Awards & Eligibility: Six awards offered annually. First through third place will be awarded in two categories: one for high school juniors and seniors, and one for college students.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
  3. Must be a high school junior, senior, or a current undergraduate student.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  5. Must be 16 to 25 years of age.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. high school juniors, seniors, and undergraduate students (between the ages of 17 and 25) are eligible to apply for this award. Interested students must submit a video featuring the importance of avoiding distracted driving.

Application requirements for the Project Yellow Light/Hunter Garner Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Video should focus on the importance of avoiding distractions while driving. Video may include other people, but students must have permission from all individuals who appear in or are mentioned in the video to use their name, voice and/or image.

Award Amount: Two first-place winning entrants will receive a $5,000 scholarship, and his/her video will be used as the basis for a PSA for the Ad Council, which will be distributed nationally to over 1,600 television stations nationwide. Two second-place winners will receive a $2,000 scholarship, and two third-place winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,667.

Additional information and contest entry forms are available online from the Project Yellow Light website. An interested student must submit a video featuring the importance of avoiding distracted driving. Prior to submitting an entry, the applicant is advised to visit the Project Yellow Light website and read the video submission requirements and tips and background about the contest. An entrant may enter individually or as part of a team of no more than four members. If entering as part of a team, the team’s primary entrant must submit his/her contact information on the entry form, list the names of his/her team members on the entry form, and use his/her YouTube account for the video entry. The applicant’s video must be exactly 25 or 55 seconds in length. To submit a video, the applicant must complete the contest entry form with his/her name, email address and phone number (and the names of team members, if applicable). The video’s YouTube link must then be copied and pasted in the space provided. The video should be marked as unlisted (to learn how to mark a video as unlisted, visit the YouTube Google support page). Videos must be original and in the .MOV, .MPEG, .MPEG4, or .AVI formats. Only one entry per person is allowed. Entries must be submitted by 11:59:59 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
