  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  4. Must be a person with epilepsy or a family member/caregiver of a person with epilepsy.

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who have been diagnosed with epilepsy or are a family member/caregiver of a person with epilepsy.

Additional Information: Exceptional achievement deserves special recognition. UCB continues to demonstrate a unique commitment to improving the lives of people living with epilepsy, including patients, family members, and caregivers, by literally investing in their future. The UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program provides financial support for academic and personal achievement. The purpose of this scholarship program is to demonstrate the continued commitment of UCB, Inc. to people with epilepsy, their families, and caregivers.

Award Amount: Thirty awards of up to $5,000 and two awards of up to $10,000 will be available this year. Awards are provided on a one-time basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in November for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the UCB, Inc. website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a one-page essay explaining why the applicant should be selected for the scholarship (eg, outstanding awards or community involvement), how epilepsy has impacted the applicant's life, either as a person with epilepsy or as a family member/caregiver, and how the scholarship will benefit the applicant; three letters of recommendation; an original copy of the applicant's academic transcript; and a photograph of the applicant as described on the application. Certain sections of the application will need to be completed by the student, a parent/guardian (if the applicant is under 18), a school official, a member of the community, and a member of the applicant's healthcare team. Students pursuing degrees in the arts are welcome to include an artistic presentation. This is an optional item. Additional pages can be attached to the application if more space is needed for responses. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
