Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 27 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must apply by Dec. 1 of his/her senior year for admission in the following fall semester.
  3. Must display a high level of academic achievement.
  4. Must attend the University of Richmond.
  5. Must attend a college or university in Virginia.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors who plan to attend the University of Richmond in VA. Scholarships are awarded based on leadership, academic achievement, and personal qualities.

Application requirements for the UR Richmond Scholars Program – Oldham and Boatwright Scholars are:

  • Application form
  • $50 app. fee
  • Test scores
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
  • Interview (finalists only)
Additional Information: Students who are selected to advance to the semifinalist round will be notified by email and postal mail. Semifinalists will be asked to submit additional information to the committee in order to advance to the finalist round. Finalists will be notified by email and postal mail in order to make arrangements for an expense-paid campus visit for the required scholarship interview. The interview is typically held in mid-March. Those students designated as Oldham Scholars exemplify the highest scholarship, personal integrity and potential for leadership. Those students designated as Boatwright Scholars are awarded based on a combination of academic achievement and personal qualities.

Award Amount: Up to 7 Richmond Scholars will be designated as Oldham Scholars. These students will receive an award equal to full tuition plus room and board for four years. In 2019-2020, this is valued at $64,980 per academic year. Up to 20 Richmond Scholars will be designated as Boatwright Scholars. These students will receive an award equal to full tuition for four years. In 2019-2020, this is valued at $52,610 per academic year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $237,280.

To qualify for consideration for the Richmond Scholars Program, the student must submit a complete admissions application. Students apply for admission to the University of Richmond (UR) via the Common Application, including the UR supplement and its essay prompt. In addition to a completed Common Application, the student must also submit the following: a $50 application fee or approved fee waiver; a recommendation from a guidance counselor or other school official; a transcript complete through the 11th grade; and official results from either the SAT or ACT. TOEFL scores are also required from non-native speakers of English. The complete admissions application must be submitted by Dec. 1 of the student's senior year of high school. Please note: Students must complete all standardized testing by Nov. 30.
