Additional Information

The Torch Scholars Program is looking for students who meet the following criteria: have persevered despite difficult family situations, cultural barriers, financial challenges, or education environments that were unable to prepare them to compete for admission to a highly selective school such as Northeastern; show leadership through community, school, and service work; have not yet demonstrated academic success at the level of their true potential, though they have taken solid college preparatory course work, and can be successful with the academic and personal support provided by the Torch Program; and represent a diversity of academic majors, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and geographic areas. Finalists will be notified at the end of February and invited to campus for Interview Day in March. Torch Interview Day is a six-hour day that includes an individual interview, a group interview, and a support figure interview. Each Torch finalist must submit three essays about his/her motivation and personal value system. In addition, each finalist will complete a non-cognitive assessment. The assessment provides a systematic review of emotional, interpersonal, experiential, attitudinal, and motivational styles. Finalists also participate in a math assessment and simulated lectures.
