Description: This award is for U.S. citizens studying earth science in a graduate program.

Application requirements for the Warren L. and Florence W. Calvert Memorial Fund Scholarship are:

  • and positions of leadership or service
Additional Information: The Calvert Memorial Fund provides scholarship support to graduate students majoring in earth sciences who are U. S. citizens. In 1973, Warren Calvert began the W. L. Calvert Memorial Scholarship Fund for graduate scholarships with an $8,000 donation, which has now grown to over $300,000. In that time the fund has awarded over $150,000 in graduate scholarships to 62 students studying at 14 different universities. Each year since its inception, Warren has continued to work with the HGS scholarship board to help select the best-qualified candidates as an active participant in the scholarship decision-making process.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available from the Houston Geological Society (HGS) website or may be requested using the contact information provided. To apply for this award, students must complete and mail a printed copy of the application form. In addition, students must attach summaries of all employment history, academic activities, clubs, and organizations, or any other positions of leadership or service to the community. Deadline for receipt of applications is June 15. The announcement of awards will be made in July.
