In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or an approved refugee (according to federal regulations).
  3. Must have been a resident of Michigan since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
  4. Must enroll on at least a half-time basis.
  5. Must have a score on all parts of the ACT test added together that equals 90 or higher (this is equal to a composite score of 23 or higher).
  6. Must be enrolled at an eligible Michigan postsecondary institution.
  7. Must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  8. Must not be pursuing a degree in theology, divinity, or religious education.
  9. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.

Description: This award is available to Michigan resident undergraduate students who are enrolled at an approved Michigan postsecondary institution. Students must demonstrate both financial need and merit and must achieve a qualifying ACT score prior to entering college.

Additional Information: The Michigan Competitive Scholarship (MCS) program is available to undergraduate students pursuing their first degrees at an approved Michigan postsecondary institution. A list of eligible MI institutions can be found online at the link provided. Students must demonstrate both financial need and merit and eligible applicants must take the ACT and achieve a qualifying score prior to entering college. Students attending Baker College or Davenport University should contact the college financial aid office to see if they are eligible and at what amount.

Award Amount: $1,000 per academic year  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

The Michigan Competitive Scholarship program is available to undergraduate students pursuing their first degrees at an approved Michigan postsecondary institution. Students must demonstrate both financial need and merit and eligible applicants must achieve a qualifying ACT score prior to entering college. To apply, students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA should be submitted as soon as possible after January 1 each academic year. Students whose FAFSA is received by March 1 will receive priority consideration. In addition to a complete application, each participating college or university may require students to submit additional forms or supplemental information before scholarship eligibility can be determined. Students should contact his/her institution for additional details.
