Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards available depends on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal resident of Connecticut.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must have a cumulative class rank in the top 20 percent at the end of the junior year for high school seniors (upon graduation for all others) OR have a combined SAT score (verbal and math) of 1800 or higher or ACT score of 27 or higher.
  5. Must attend a college or university in Connecticut or in states which have reciprocal arrangements with Connecticut (the District of Columbia, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island or Vermont).
  6. Must enroll full time or half time.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Connecticut high school senior and undergraduate students who are attending eligible Connecticut institutions. Students must have a cumulative class rank in the top 20 percent at the end of their junior year for high school seniors (upon graduation for all others) OR have combined scores (math, critical reading, writing) of at least 1800 on the SAT OR 27 or better on ACT.

Additional Information: The Governor's Scholarship Program provides state grants to help talented and needy students pay for college. It is not a merit program; priority is given to those who are least able to contribute to college costs. Based upon continued funding, students may use grants at any eligible college or university in Connecticut.

Award Amount: Up to $4,500 per year  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,500.

Applications are available online at the Connecticut Department of Higher Education (CTDHE) website. Students should submit completed application to his/her high school counselor or college admissions officer. Counselors must verify and complete the application and submit the entire form to the Office of Financial and Academic Affairs for Higher Education. Students should contact his/her counselor to ensure the application is submitted on time. Students must also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date to be considered for the award year.
