Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. The amount of scholarships awarded depends on the number of qualified applicants and the amount of contributions taken each year. Last year, three new awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a current resident of Colorado or Montana OR was a resident of one of these states during cancer treatment.
  5. Must have been treated for childhood cancer.
  6. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: High school seniors with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher who were diagnosed with childhood cancer are eligible for this award. Students must be residents of Colorado or Montana OR have resided in one of these states during cancer treatment.

Application requirements for the Stephen T. Marchello Foundation Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letters (3)
  • Essay
  • Official SAT and/or ACT scores
  • Activities list
  • Interview (finalists only)
Additional Information: The Stephen T. Marchello Scholarship Foundation board of directors will make the initial screening of the applications received. The final award decisions will be made after a personal interview. Proof of acceptance to the institution of higher education of the recipient's choice must be made prior to granting of the award. The foundation will base their decision on references, essay question answers and activities participated in. Recipients will be contacted by phone or in person.

Award Amount: The award amount varies annually. Last year's awards ranged from $500 to $1,500. Some renewable awards may be offered. It is the recipient's obligation to keep the foundation informed of his/her progress in school in order to be awarded the scholarship money the following semesters if awarded a renewable scholarship.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the scholarship foundation website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit an official transcript, SAT/ACT scores, and three letters of reference (one must be from the doctor who provided his/her treatment). If the student is unable to contact his/her doctor, he/she may submit confirmation of treatment from the hospital or clinic. Each applicant must also answer two questions listed on page two of the application. Applications and all supporting material are due by 5 p.m. on March 15. When March 15 falls on a Sunday, applications will be due on Monday, March 16. No late applications will be accepted.
