The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. This scholarship, provided in honor of Joshua Esch Mitchell, is provided annually to a Kent County resident with a pilot's license who is pursuing a degree related to aviation, aviation safety, or aviation management. A letter of recommendation from a professional in the aviation field is required. Selection is based on academic record and financial need.
