Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of or attending a college or university in Maryland.
  2. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  3. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program during the year of the scholarship award.
  4. Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, or demonstrate a commitment to LGBT causes.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, as well as straight allies. Applicants must reside in Maryland or attend an institution of higher education in Maryland.

Additional Information: The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and allied students, encourage their pursuit of post-secondary education, and foster a positive image of the LGBT society. For those reasons, the Howard County, MD PFLAG chapter will provide one scholarship each year to a deserving Maryland resident or student at a Maryland college.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available at the Maryland Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. In addition to a completed application form, students must submit two letters of reference - one from a teacher or faculty member, and one from an individual who is familiar with the applicant's community service efforts. All application materials and supporting documents must be mailed to the contact information provided above, and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
