Number of Awards & Eligibility: There is one award per region, 26 awards total.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a current high school student to apply.
  4. Must reside in one of the following areas: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Connecticut, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Memphis, Nashville, Miami, New Jersey (Northern and Central/Southern), New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Rochester, St. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle or Washington, D.C.
  5. Must participate in volunteer activities that help improve race relations.

Additional Information: Students must attend school in one of the eligible regions. A list of those regions may be found at www.princeton.edu/pprize/locations/.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $26,000.

Additional information is available from the provider's website. Students must submit the application, which includes basic personal information (address, school, etc.) and four short essay questions about their volunteer activities that impacted race relations at their school or within their communities. In addition to their application, students must also seek out a supporter, who can be a teacher, adviser, community or religious leader, or other responsible individual who is not related to them. This supporter must also complete an application, providing more details on the general character of those applying and how their activities played a significant role in fostering race relations. Both applications may be completed online or sent in by mail before the deadline date.
