What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Make sure you find a college that is the correct size and has similar views as you do. Another good thing to look for are the different activites they offer. And make sure you attend every possible function avaiable before chosing the college/university because the functions are a good part of what the college/university has to offer.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

the condition of the austin hall dorms because they are old and just need to be redone.

A lot of Alverno students are very religious. I am not so that very occasionally makes for a strang situation. Also on campus most of the students commute and are older. They are more motivated and that is one of the reasons I like Alverno. I've made a few friends but others I'd choose not to befriend. Also a lot of women find Alverno as therapy and disclose aukward information on the first day of class that is TMI! (Too much information)

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I have gone to University of Milwaukee, MATC, and Alverno. The hardest part about finding the right school for you isn't entirely about the school you choose. It's a bout the person choosing. You have to be motivated and ready to go to college before you can be successful!! That is also one of the reasons why Alverno is a great learning environment. There arent people partying 24/7 because the students who are there WANT to be there!!

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about Alverno is the access to professors. I can e-mail, call, or simply drop by a teachers office at any time. Also they go by a first name basis so it makes you feel much more comfortable asking questions and asking for additional help.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

My advice to parents and students would be to research colleges together. Students need to know what kind of colleges they are looking for and what kind of experiences they want to get out of it. All schools offer a variety of course majors and minors, so a student would need to know what is and isn't being offered. Recreational activies also vary for different schools, so research what is being offered and students should be encouraged to join. Research what kind of financial aid services these schools offer and see if they would greatly help families with providing it. If there are colleges that catch the eye of both parents and students, they need to take time to visit these schools and arrange for a tour and attend scheduled orientations. These would beneficial in showing them the school's environment setting and services that are offered. If both have questions about anything, it would be best to ask lots of questions so there isn't any confusion in the future. My last piece of advice would be to pick the right school for the right reasons and make the best of it.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The only worst things that I could think of about Alverno college is that it isn't a very well known college in the Milwaukee area. If some people know somewhat about Alverno, they say, "isn't that an all girls school?" It gets quite fustrating when most talk amongst people are about the bigger colleges and break Alverno down as "an all girls school." Other than these things, Alverno does not have many bad things.

What kind of person should attend this school?

Alverno College has a small, safe campus which is located in quiet neighborhood, not far from several shopping centers. Alverno greatly emphasizes developing social skills by engaging students in groupwork and speeches. There are also services offered such as medical, fitness, housing, safety, job, and daycare, which greatly administer to the needs of its students. If a person is looking for any of these things, then Alverno College is the best place that they could possibly attend.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The best wayto find the right school is by touring as many campuses as you can. It's important to not chose a school based on where friends are going, but find a place where you feel comfortable.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I would have known that the on campus computer lab is so convenient that I would not have needed to purchase my own computer.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Alverno allows all kinds of people from different backgrounds to attend. It is known as an all women's ollege, but th truth is that men are allowed to take classes at Alverno for graduate studies. I would suggest to people from any type of background to consider Alverno for continuing their education. All staff are friendly and open to all students, as well as students to their peers.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.

Alverno is best known for being an all women private college, being a nursing school, and our billboards that are almost everywhere in Milwaukee.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If you really want to get the most out of a college experience, just take into consideration what you would like to get out of the time you spend at the school. What does it have to offer for you? For example, throughout high school I had some serious stage fright. It would get to the point where I would feel like I wanted to run out of the room if we had to do a speech. At Alverno, there is a huge focus on communications and how to speak clearly, give great speeches with power point, and all that jazz. It was amazing noticing my progress and how much confidence I could build up simply by comprehending the right ways to communicate with people. It has also made me more confident just talking to people! So basically, checking out the curriculum is the best way. What can help you to improve what you need working on, and what can bring out the best in what you're already tralented in? It's the optimal path to become a well-rounded student that can take on whatever comes his or her way.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Go to a school that you'll enjoy and learn from the most. Don't worry about cost or the name of the school. If you don't want to go to college, than don't because you'll be wasting the money in the long run.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I would have known how great it was so I wouldn't have waisted two years at a different university.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing is that most classes one day a week for three hours. If you have to miss one class, you're missing out on a lot of time.
