I had in mind that all the girls would have long blonde highlights, wear designer jeans, carry vera bradley bags, etc. There's definitely a stereotype that CofC's a party school.

I'm not sure. I would say that going into the school I thought it was going to be very southern, conservative, and preppy. The campus tour guides also made it sound like a college town.

A lot of people from other SC school think the kids at CofC are all stoner hippies. There definitely are some heady people here, but it's not the majority. We've got a lot of different kinds of people here. Preppy Northerners, Fratty guys, jocks, prissy girls, but most of them just fit the external stereotype. Most of the time when you actually talk to these people they're pretty chill and hospitable. A lot of very different, very friendly, easy going people attend CofC.

Nothing but a bunch of partyers who are always drunk implying a de-emphasis of academics by the College.

Umm.. there are a few.. its stereotypical of a lot of the girls to be rich, stuck up, preppy girls who spend their daddys money on their new pearl necklace, lily dress, or Jack rogers.. i love it though! I mean, yeah we like to dress up and look cute but people assume that everyone is spoiled. There are a lot of stereotypes with the sororities too. We are also known for being a big party school!

Before coming here I heard that CofC had no diversity and was a 'party school.' I also heard that the girls were all ditzy sorority girls and the boys were either surfers, stoners, frat boys or some combination of those.

hmm.. some of the more general stereotypes are that they're all party kids..and that the student population is 6 girls to 1 guy (it actually seems like that sometimes, but it's actually about 2 to 1)

It is a party school. It has a very southern background and the stereotypes that go along with that. It is not very diverse and is mainly girls.

Well, they're stereotypes - and usually I hear things like: either laid back or preppy, independent, i guess it might be a stereotype but really polite and nice - the Southern thing

A lot of people seem to think that CofC is a party school because we are located near the beach, but I do not think that there is any more partying here than there is at any other school. Of course there are always temptations, but you just need to be able to balance your academics along with your free time and make sure that your school work always comes first. According to one article that I've heard of, "If CofC students were any more laid back, they'd fall over."

Greek life- If you join a sorority or frat, you are basically stuck with the reputation that your greek organization has. If you are Phi Mu, you are a loser. If you are Tri Delt, you are a slut.

That everyone down at Cofc is very "southern" and preppy. Girls and guys dress up to go to class and are sometimes avert to the idea of northerners or anyone else.
