We are stereotyped as all hippies, surfers, and laid back cats. All the girls are beautiful and the guys are at a minimum.

That we are a huge party school. I came here because I liked the campus and the city and it was close to home, it wasn't until later that someone told my mom it was one of the top party schools on the east coast.

That it's a big party school is the only stereotype I remember..

I think the stereotype is that CofC students go out and party all of the time, since we go to school in such a urban setting. I think people assume that students who are involved in any kind of fraternity or sorority get trashed all the time and don't really work that hard in school. I feel that the stereotypes vary according to the age of the person holding those stereotypes, like a younger person (middle or high school) would probably hold relatively positive stereotypes about the students here, but older people would not think about the students here in any kind of really flatteriing way.

There is a female majority at CofC and most of these females come from rich families. The always present rich, snobby, STD ridden female at CofC is a huge stereotype. Also the Greeks, no matter how lame or normal they are as people, need you to know how important they are to the school. Another stereotype is the lazy, pothead, surfer who comes into class late with a hangover and skips later classes to "hit the beach".

They are all preppy, pretty, and like to party. The in-state kids are not as smart as the out of state kids, and you can tell.

That it is a preppy school because of some of the high class, historic Charleston style.

Some of the stereotypes about CofC students are that the girls all suffer from eating disorders, the guys weren't bright enough to get into a real college.

Some of the stereotypes that surround CofC and the student body are that everyone is either rich and snobby, or a hippie/burn-out. The general consensus is that everyone parties 24/7 and no one goes to class. Many view sorority girls and fraternity guys as snobby and morally corrupt. There are too many girls and not enough guys, resulting in cocky, rude males.

There is a stereotype that we are almost too laid back. The stereotype is that all we do is hang out on the beach all day and party every night.

That because it's in the south, people are stupid and the education isn't as good as the northern school. Also, some people think that EVERYONE goes Greek, which isn't true. I'd say that there is a fair amount of people who do end up in a sorority or fraternity, but there's also a substantial amount of students that don't go Greek. Charleston is a very liberal city and people are so open-minded. Students are very laidback and relaxed, but also work hard and strive to do their best.

"it's a total party school"- not really. There is def a lot to do for the party-type kids but that's really only if you're 21 or have a fake i.d. (and it better be a good one). "100's of girls...and they're hottt!!"- there are a lot of girls and a lot of good-looking ones too, but don't come here for the girls. "the school is so easy and classes are easy and it's just so chill"-it is a very laid back campus, but the classes are not all easy and most of them are not just easy classes you take and skip whenever you want. the teachers are great, but there's always that one teacher who requires tons of reading and has super hard tests so don't think you can come here and party and just not go to class.

That they all do coke, they all smoke pot, they are a bunch of rich, white kids, they go to the beach everyday, and the workload is light and not challenging.

There isn't much diversity. Very laid back students.

The biggest stereotype that I knew about before coming here and that is perpetuated is that C of C is a major party school. Also that the academic programs here are less than spectacular.

That many are rich and preppy and like to drink. That there are racist groups.

I think CofC still retains the "College of Knowledge" reputation, which refers sarcastically to the lack of knowledge. This may have been true in the past, but CofC is getting very difficult to get into and classes are increasingly difficult. There are more girls than boys at this school, but the ratios are getting better.

I've heard people say that the girls at C of C aren't the "best" and that they like to wear skimpy clothes and sunbathe where everyone can see them. I've also heard that C of C is a true Charleston, southern friendly school.

The girls are usually perceived as being preppy and slutty, but there are girls that go to CofC who are the complete opposite of this. Most guys are really into themselves and are jerks.

When I first got to The College, the stereotypes included: - students were burnouts who didn't get in anywhere else - students partied all the time and did a lot of drinking/drugs
