Quinnipiac University Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Jen

not diverse at all-its a problem people form their groups but they are friendly towards each other and hang out together sometimes

Brittany

Studets dress in one of two ways in class: preppy or sweats.

Lorie

The Quinnipiac community is fairly homogenius but its diversity is growing. Everyone seems to get along and the University is becoming more selective as to who is admitted. There is a growing presence of Greek Life on campus which symbolizes stronger unity amongst the students. Most students are driven with motivation in hopes of success. However, some do not leave their dorms because of their obsessions with video games. Quinnipiac has leaders, followers, and in betweens. Because of the great opportunity the University's organizations give to the students, the campus has growing leadership.

David

students are a little more snobbish than they were in the past. For some reason the majority beleive its okay to walk in front of people and cut them off or just stop altogether in the hallway. Another problem is that they are always going through the wrong door in basically every entry way causing the people coming the other way to stop because the other person is too lazy to open their own door. this happens at least 5 times a day and it drives me insane because it NEVER happened before.

Kristi

I think that no matter who you are at quinnipiac, if you are social, you will be okay. I transferred in my junior year and lived with five girls. Coming out to them was scary, but they made me feel very comfortable. I believe that there are a lot of gay students at QU that do not feel as comfortable with being out as I do. I think that if you are a gay student looking to come to school here, you have to have the attitude that if being gay is going to bother someone, then you don't need to be friends with them. You will definitely find people who are above and beyond accepting, and you will have to learn to ignore the people who are not. I think the key to being gay on this campus is coming out as soon as possible. The longer people stay in the closet the more scared they get that they will loose friends. If you come out early on, then the friends you make will already have accepted you from the beginning.

Jessica

Student body is not as diverse as where I am from...but the school is making a great effort to increase the diversity on campus. There is however a variety of students with different backgrounds, religions, and races. Most students are from Mass, CT, NJ, NY (Long Island), RI.

Jeff

The vast majority of Quinnipiac students are from Connecticut, Massachucetts, or New York. One of the topics of conversation this past year was about how QU was rated one of the most apathetic college campus's, and for the most part this is true. This campus has alot to offer for those that get involved, but few do. I don't remember the percentages, but of the people who are actually invovled in the various organizations, a large percentage of them are greek. Being a part of the greek system, I'm obviously biased, but we're very involved on campus. I forget the exact percentage, but the saying is that we're only 6{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the campus, but we're the loudest 6{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}.

Kristen

I must be honest when I say Quinnipiac is lacking on its diversity value. Coming from a school in New Jersey where I was somewhat of a minority as a caucasian, I've found the transition to be a radical one. I've heard many sadly tell me that they chose to come to QU because of the lack of diversity, but I understand that comfort level that some people need.

Andy

Like I said before, I didn't feel that Quinnipiac had much diversity at all. Most students wear whatever's at the mall to class. I remember one large Psych 101 that met at 8am and some of the girls wore skirts and heels..they weren't my friends, that's for sure. I found most people to be either a) from CT b) from Long Island c) from Mass or d) from Jersey. I felt that just about everyone from QU came from middle class to upper middle class. I felt like the only kid who didn't have Mommy and Daddy paying for everything. I felt like most of my classmates were mainly apathetic politically and were middle of the road if they thought about politics at all. Basically everyone's either a Jew from Long Island or Jersey or a Catholic or Protestant from Connecticut or Mass. I rarely met a gay person, a Buddhist, or anyone different from the above described people.

Joe

couple instances of racial slurs on campus, i won't lie...but the fact that there is a small amount of minorities is like that. but the minute minority stats have led to serious on-campus, student calls for diversity. the student diversity board has played a huge role, and stirred a lot of students. we're getting there.

Sean

The student body is all cliques and all preps. There are nice people, and there are individuals...just good luck finding them. Everyone dresses and looks the same here. If you wear anything other than abercrombie, american eagle, or whatever else, you will not fit in very well with the general masses. Other than that, you'll make tons of friends pretty quickly.

Mark

groups on campus are generally small, fraternities and sororities are as well. there is not a true variety in the student body at quinnipiac. outside of tuition alone, which is sky high, the actual cost of living at Quinnipiac is expensive. well off families are heavily represented and the majority of the student body is white.

Alexandra

Most of the students here are from the same economic background and it is not very diverse. The majority of students are white. Clothes worn to class vary. A majority of the week I wear sweatpants or leggings, but other days when I have class for the whole day, I'll put on a pair of jeans. Most of the students come from New York, mostly Long Island and Westchester, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. There are also some students that are from upper New England, and a handful from outside the New England region, who are generally here for the Division 1 sports they play. Financially, most students are well off and are planning on making just as much money as their parents do based on their efforts with their studies.

KJ

While most of the student body is very stereotypical rich, white, suburban raised kids there is some diversity, there is a growing group of artsy/musically inclined people. There is also a LBGT group growing in strength. This is a very politically ignorant school, actually know for being the 2nd most politically unaware college.

Andrew

The majority of the student body here is very apathetic. Sometimes it can be frustrating because it feels that you are the only one that cares about an issue that a lot more people should be aware about. But you just need to look for the people that feel the same way that you do and you will find them. Sometimes it can be frustrating though. The majority of the students come from New York, Long Island, New Jersey, and from around New England. A lot of the student's families are well off and sometimes they can flaunt it making those that are not as fortunate feel left out.

Whitney

The studnet body is very similar. The girls are clicky like high school, but you'll find a group you like. Some people are very different and are looked at for it. You know the girl when someone is talking about her hair color of the week. It's not itty bitty but its not big and not very diverse looking.

Sharon

Quinnipiac is not very diverse.

Danielle

We're not very diverse. We've had issues with that, but I don't see that as a huge problem. Students aren't really politically aware at all. We're extremely apathetic, but who cares anyway. Most people are from wealthy backgrounds and really don't understand the value of a dollar. I'm from a middle middle class framily when most people are upper, but I don't see too much of a problem. I may not have the name brand clothes and stuff but people don't really seem to care.

chelsea

There are a variety of students, but less boys than girls.

Jeff

This school is something like 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} white. The next biggest group is probably people of Asian ancestry, followed by Latinos and then blacks. Most people are upper-middle class and come from the suburbs of Connecticut, New York (mostly Long Island), New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

Brian

lots and lots of white kids, from the north east

Jill

Very homogenous student body. Mostly white kids from the surrounding states. Many weathly kids (look at the cars in the parking lot) but there are also kids who are paying for their own education. Sometimes you feel like your caught in a material world here, a lot of kida dress the same and have the same new bags, boots, etc.

Andy

Everyone is the exact same which means white and rich. Every girl wheres Uggs and a northfce with a coach purse. There are no people where you can have a normal conversation with because they are all so full of themselves and snobby. Most students are from Jersey and New York, all the same areas typically. EVERYONE IS THE SAME!

Jessica

Most students at Quinnipiac are from middle- to upper-middle economic backgrounds. I wish there was more diversity, both economically and racially, because I think college is more than just going to class - I don't think students here are exposed to as much diversity as they could be, and I wish I wasn't still so clueless about other people.

Madison

There are all sorts of people who attend QU. Most are spoiled brats. Many do not realize what it costs to attend this school and do not appreciate it.

christina

Quinnipiac has had some issues with its lack of diversity in the student body, but most of the campus does care and is trying to make positive changes. Most students don't get dressed up for class, alot of us will just wear sweats, or jeans and a sweatshirt. The only times you really see people dressed up is for presentations, or if theyre going to field study or clinicals. Most QU students are from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. There are alot of wealthy students here, but its easy to find people that are like you. The students here are pretty apathetic about politics, but there are groups on campus that are really trying to motivate people to get involved more. If you're interested enough, you can definetely find a group of people who share common interests.

Brett

Full of guido's and trashy girls. The typical long island blow out haircut is seen across the board as the majority of Quinnipiac guys and girls go to Toads to go clubbing on Saturday nights. Every single Saturday night. The student body is obnoxious in their efforts to be glamorous and are mocked by the students of other Connecticut universities. The vast, vast majority come from an upper-middle class background and believe they are the richest people on campus. The snobby attitude of many students is laughable yet annoying. The homogenous community makes for a boring classroom environment.

Bethany

A lot of the kids are really nice. I haven't found anyone that I've absolutely hated although there are a lot of people who are REALLY picky when it comes to how they live so roommates have problems a lot. Most kids are from Connecticut or Massachusetts. You don't' get a lot of kids from very far away. Most students dress pretty normal for class. I was disappointed at how few people wear PJs to class. Most of the kids are pretty wealthy if not middle class.

Alex

there are mostly whites at quinnipiac. very few blacks and very few asians

Owen

most of the poeple are very friendly here and the clubs and stuff on campus do a good job of providing entertainment on the weekends

Gene

Quinnipiac's student body one of the least diverse populations you will find at a college campus, not just racially, but financially and regionally as well. you would be hard pressed to find a kid that lives outside of CT,NJ,NY,MA. The kids here also come from high schools with a minority population of >5{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. Quinnipiac's student body is very homogenous, sheltered, and ignorant. Quinnipiac eventually realized this problem, so the class of 2011 is a much more racially diverse population, which has been met by various acts of racism. I have heard my suite mates casually use the N word, in an on going joke, on numerous occasions, kids that I otherwise respect and consider to be friends. It is not just my roommates, I have heard it other places as well. prior to the class of 2011, you used to be able to point out the kids on the basketball team, based on their race alone. even still, there is probably more people with red hair on campus, than black kids. The kids are also very apathetic. There is almost no political presents on the campus, they dont know anything of currents, etc.

Kyle

this campus is very white. i am sri lankan so i have darker skin and i live with mostly white guys. we have one other darker roommate. he is italian and puerto rican. so by most standards we are a very diverse room. for the most part people dont care about race or religion. there will always be some idiots that have some bad things to say but for the most part people are very accepting. there are a bunch of rich kids here too. a lot of mercedes and BMW's driving around. some people throw their money around but once again you can just ignore them.

Dylan

I have never encountered any racial issues. The dress is casual and haven't noticed any dominant political persuasions.

leis

Quinnipiac is not very diverse. Any student of an ethnicity other than white may feel a little out of place, however, I feel they are welcomed, but may be intiminated by the majority white population. Students wear anything ranging from Juicy to Polo to Coach to Burberry to GAP to sweatpants to class. Most Quinnipiac Students are from CT, NY, MA, PA, ME, VT. Financial backgrounds are clearly that most families that attend QU are of the upper to middle class. Politically, no, Quinnipiac is ranked among the lowest for political knowledge, which is kind of ironic considering we have a polling institute.

Royce

perfect size.. not too big and not too small

Sara

I'm in the ALANA programming which is for students who are people of ethnic backgrounds and they set up all these events to help stop racial discrimination. I don't think any student would feel out of place at Quinnipiac, the school does its best to make everyone feel comfortable and at home. To class students wear anything from pajamas to an abercrombie and fitch skirt and hollister shirt. People wear whats comfortable or trendy. I feel like all the students interact and there isn't separations between groups. College is a lot different then high school. In high school there were several cliques who sat together during lunch but here looking at the cafe you see everyone sitting together with their friends. Occasionally you'll see the basketball or other sport teams sitting together but overall everyone sits with their friends, no cliques. A lot of Quinnipiac students are from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Mass., New Hampshire, and all those states but there are those students playing sports from other countries like Belgium, Puerto Rico, and Italy. Because the tuition is high several of the people here do have a lot of money but there are also several people here taking out loans or on scholarships who aren't rich but aren't poor.

Shannon

Most people that go here have money or have a ton of loans in order to pay for their education. Also most people here are white wear hollister, north face, abecrombie, and carry Louis Viton or Dooney and Burke bags. Most of the girls are spoilded brats and dont know how to wear enough clothes.

Danielle

we are not a diverse campus at all, although the school is making a big effort to bring in other racial and/or socio-economic backgrounds in. there are a lot of kids from NY and NJ and then the rest are usually from new england. the financial backgrounds of most QU students are that they are wealthy.

Gene

There is almost no diversity on the QU campus; it is mostly upper middle-class white students who attend QU. There has been some trouble lately with hate crimes (mostly vandalism) on campus. These are isolated events and very few and far between, but it is troubling when it occurs. You can pretty much find someone who shares the same interests as you, but if you're into the preppy, popped-collar, girls-with-spandex-and-Uggs wearing too much makeup then you'll fit in just fine. The main places that the students are from are Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Tate

students are immature and party several nights a week. they are all from wealthy families or they pretend they are wealthy. they are ignorant on the world around them.

Ashley

Once again, I wish there was more diversity. I feel like a lot of the people here look the same, which isn't always a bad thing, but I would like to see more of a range. It is also pretty evident that the financial background's are all pretty similar since the tuition is so high. I think it is pretty easy to fit in at Quinnipiac, and I don't think a stereotype should be placed on the students.

Andy

Quinnipiac is a school where you have to be somebody to get noticed. Students care about what they are wearing, and you have to have expensive clothes and things. There is no diversity, as every student is white. Most girls wear Juicy sweats to class in the morning, but dress up the rest of the day. EVERYBODY at Quinnipiac is from Long Island, New Jersey, or Westchester County, NY. And then there are some from CT also. Many students have money, and most have nice cars. The cafeteria is dominated by sports teams, as they stick together and then it's just girls sitting around them trying to catch their attention.

Nicole

OK, so the student body at QU is basically all white. There are some black students, asian students and latino students, but barely. We have all different clubs that represent their ethnic and racial group, but the reality of it is that QU is majority caucasion students. From my experience, most people are from Westchester, NY, Long Island, NY, a nearby town or county in CT, or Massachusetts. These areas are mostly middle to upper class, although there are students who have financial aid, and are able to get work study (campus jobs) and stuff like that. The most diverse people are also usually on a sports team. For example most basketball players usually have a full ride and are african american. I know three black students who are not on the basketball team, and two of them are in the nursing program, other than that I really don't know any that don't play a sport. The general attire for class is usually comfortable, although there are some girls who find the need to paste on enormous amounts of make up and squeeze into tight cloths for class. You can usually spot them out pretty quickly, and they are usually freshman. It depends on everyone's personal style, but usually everyone is in comfortable clothing.

Rebecca

Diversity is awful. It is rare to see any type of same sex relationships and if you do people stare in awe. Many students spit racial slurs and right them on kids doors. The student body is all the same. I can describe the student body as as Ugg and North Face wearing campus. Everyone dresses the same and looks the same. Many kids come from very rich families. Most students come from MA, NY, NJ, and CT. Students are very unaware of politics even though QU is known for their polling institute.

Corinne

on average most students at QU come from well off backgrounds and come off as snotty. There are some socio-economic tiffs, and most students wear designer sleepware to class.

Regina

Mostly white, upper-middle class, preppy fashion-focused crowd. Sociable, like to drink. Someone who is shy and very studious may feel out of place. Most people are from the northeast. People do interact pretty well

Brett

Student government votes are just a popularity contest.

Steven

Quinnipiac has had racial problems this past year with slurrs being writen on dorm room doors. Although I'm sure it was just a drunken idiot who thought it would be funny at the time, the matter is very serious. In just about every class we talked about it and how people need to stop being bigots. The school is almost all white, but administration is trying to get more diversity. It will be a long time but i think some day this school will be diverse. Mostly every student that goes here is from New England. If you live from way out of state like me it is a good expiereince to check out what the east coast is like. I've learned a lot about this part of the country, and their not all bad.

mary

Religion is not really a big deal on campus. Minorities are the ones who probably left most out of place at Quinnipiac because there are so few of them. Most students wear uggs, north face, jeans and designer names to class. It is rare that a student will not have a name brand piece of clothing on. Most students are from either NY, NJ, CT, or MA. Few are from Rhode Island or New Hampshire. Most students come from a family of college educated parents who are wealthy or own their own businesses. Most students are not involved in politics and not much is said on campus.

Dan

Anyone who is not white will most likely feel out of place at Quinnipiac. Most students are white/catholic from long island, ny,new jersey, westchester ny, connecticut and massachusettes. Students here are generally left wing, as are all universities, but you will find a good number of students moderate or right wing.
