What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Danielle

I love the clubs and activities. I don't know what I would do without Dance Fusion or Phi Sigma Sigma. There are so many, you just have to get involved. If you don't you are missing out. The frats and sororities here aren't the sterotypical ones. It's so much better. Also, most students in the dorms leave there doors opens and it's like we're all a big family.

Jenna

For me greek life is so important! Getting involved with a sorority has allowed me to meet all kinds of new people in and out of my sorority and has opened me up to a whole new experience here at Quinnipiac. I have sisters to rely on now and I know I can always walk into the cafe and find at least one person to sit with! It is the reason I really love school now.

Samantha

I am in a sorority on campus and i love it. Many students on campus are involved with organizations. Greek life is not the most prominent on this campus but many students that are in greek life are also involved in other groups. This is a very safe campus and when living in a dorm we did leave our doors open when we were in the room or in the hallway. Concerts are very popular when the artist that comes is well known.

Alex

I think getting involved helps your weekend plans. It provides more options for you to do. I wish more students would get involved in the activities provided.

Danielle

-tons of intramural sports to get involved in -parties on campus or new haven to go to the bars and clubs -limited number of frats and sororities

Ashley

I feel like the social life here is very good. A lot of people are involved in a number of different groups.

Jillian

I am President of my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega and it is the main reason I stayed on campus. I feel many feel that way once they get involved on campus. It is truly an active campus that if involved you have a sense of home and know familiar faces.

alyssa

the most popular groups are greek life. im involved with a sorority alpha chi omega where we volunteer to better the community and fight for our cause the fight against domestic violence, we put on fashion show, fundraisers and an annual frisbee fest to raise money. the freshmann are the ones who leave there dorm open. if im awake at 2am im prob studying or being random with my roomates and laughing our asses of

Taylor

Students are very social, we leave our doors open, i have attendend numerous events both athletic, speakers and comeidans and such. my closet friends are in my hall and my sorority but i think that will shift to the people in my classes as my classes become just physical therapy people. people party a good amount but not nearly as much as other schools, there are always oppurtunities for people on the weekend that does not involve drinking.

Courtney

Greek life is not too big but Alpha Chi Omega is reallllll cool!!!! Hockey is huge at this school... everyone goes to the games and its totally a big deal.

Colleen

sororities and frats are the places to be on campus. i live in irma, so the doors are always open and the population is very friendly. hockey games get very packed. with regards to the dating scene, i think that most people are not looking for a relationship, but that could be because i a m a freshman. i met my closest friends through getting involved. to me, frats and sororities are very important to me. they throw the best parties and are very social. last weekend i went to frat parties both nights. when i go off campus i go shopping or out to dinner

kelly

frats and sors n very minimal here, there are however alot of other student run oragnizations, most people are comfortable leaving there dorrs open but they look automatically if you close them, the dating scene is pretty regualr for a colege atmosphere, speakers and guest come all the time, alot of times they try to force us to get involved by taking school seminars or having a million mandatory frehsman meetings, which get a lil annoying, if ur up really late on weekdays your either studying or creepin on facebook, and on the weekends your gettin drunka ta bar or a dorm party, good times, i roomed with my best friends frosh year so i got lucky n chose to live wit them gain this year, i go home about once or twice a month cause its conveinent fo rme, theres always like an organization thin to do on weekend nites, but pretty much everyone drinks, last weekend i drank moderatly thurs nite, wen tot visit a freind and drank a lil at his school fri nite, came back here and drank alot on sat nite, sunday is the ultimate hangover day, however there are a good number of athletes here so they dont really drink in season but usualy come to the parties any way, oh yeah and its nice that qui shuttles us to all the bars around here so we dont have to drink n drive but people are mad gross on like fir n sat nites so usually therea a pucker on every shuttle ride home, the ride is like 20 min but we all just deal, athletic events are not huge youll go see ur friends except for hockey n alsmost as much basketball, those two sports have a huge stadium and people all go and get really into those games (just the mens obviosly)

Melissa

I mostly hear about the fraternities and sororities around campus. Athletic events are attended, but I wouldn't say they are as popular as other schools sporting events. My closest friends were my roomies freshman year and the girls down the hall from us that year. The dating scene is interesting...most guys aren't really looking for anything serious. If I'm awake at 2am on a Tuesday night then I'm most likely studying. People party as much here as they do at any other school I think, probably less. Fraternities and sororities are fairly popular among those who do them. Last weekend I hung out with friends, went hiking, played soccer.

Molly

I'm a member of Alpha Chi Omega and i think that Greek life is definitely something that people should consider being a part of. Most people leave their doors open in dorms... at least they did the first couple weeks of school to meet the people in their hall. You meet your closest friends through your room, your dorm building, or in clubs and different activities. People party every weekend, starting on Thursday night. There are many activities on campus on weekends that are fun and dont involve drinking.

Ashley

There are many activities at QU that are prepared for us to enjoy. Many concerts, comedy nights, and weekly movies to go and watch. Plus there are many opportunities to get involved in greek life or other community service organizations to raise money in fun ways for very important causes. My closests girl friends are all from my sorority and the rest are from my classes, other organizations, or from dorm life.

Kat

Greek life is the best. You get a chance to be involved with the school community and the community around the school. There is a great bond that is shared among the members of the Greek community. Alpha Chi Omega is the best!

Shawn

The social life is good, good amount of on campus parties as well as a night life in new haven. Generally you become friends with your roommates and people within your major and once you have your group of friends thats it. you hardly meet any one new.

Stephanie

The most popular organizations on campus are greek life and intramurals, and hockey is popular to watch. I am involved with Alpha Chi Omega, one of the three sororities on campus. We raise money for our philanthropy and genuinely have a good time. Students in hallway style living generally leave their doors open.

Chris

Doors are left open when someone is there. Everyone is looking to make friends and have a fun time!

Nikki

The most popular groups are probably Student Programming Board or Student Government Association. I am involved in Greek Life in Alpha Chi Omega, but greeks are not big on campus. In my dorm, I live in one of the smaller freshman dorms, we always leave our doors open. But I know others dorms that are larger do not. Athletic events are popular for freshmen and sophomores opposed to juniors and seniors. At 2 am on a Tuesday I am probably up studying, but others could be partying. Thursday is a big party night for people to go into New Haven to the clubs and bars. If you choose not to drink on a weekend, there is an organization that plans alternate events for people to go to on the weekend nights such as movies, comedians, speakers etc.

Alexa

The most popular organizations I would say is Greek Life. I am also a member of Alpha Chi Omega on campus. Alot of people leave their doors open, and stop in to say hi even if passing by. Athletic events, especially hockey games are always packed. As a room of 8, we are always up late at night, watching tv, doing homework, or ordering food. THe weekends technically start on Thursday and last through Saturday night. My roommates and I are usually out into New Haven for the night life. If we choose not to drink, which often happens whether we are sober driving for our sorority or just want to stay in, we go to the movies, out to eat, or bowling. Usually we go shopping, tanning, and out to lunch when we are in Hamden for the afternoon.

kristen

Some of the most popular groups or organizations on campus are the sports teams and the Greek life organizations. I would say that they play a fairly large role in events that go on around campus and do attract a fair amount of people, although there are still many that stereotype the average Greek. On top of that, it seems to me that the same people that play a big role in Greek life also play a big role in other organizations on campus...the most involved people tend to be the ones that are involved in everything.

Kelly

Greek life is small on campus, but it is a great way to get involved, everyone in greek life is involved in so many other things on campus. No one leaves their doors open on campus... its not THAT safe here. If i am awake late at night, i am studying. I met my friends through classes and being involved on campus. People party a lot depending on their majors. Greek life is very close together and it should expand. There honestly isnt too much to do on campus on a saturday night if your not drinking. Off campus you can go out to eat, shop, hang out, mini golf, batting cages, bowling. There is a lot to do off campus, but getting there can be a pain in the butt.

Sarah

I feel like if you were involved in high school, there are a lot of ways to be involved at QU. For me, Greek Life is my social life...whether it is community service, events for other greek organizations, or simply just getting to know people, without greek life i dont think i would like QU. Almost all of my friends are Greek, and if they aren't Greek, they are involved in other organizations like BSU or OLs

MacKenzie

The social life is very interesting. Not a lot happens on campus, because security tends to be pretty strict. Most of the social aspects, partying, etc. happens either off campus or in New Haven. The partying scene tends to hit the bars and clubs Thursday-Saturday. I like to occassionly go to clubs, it's a nice release from a stressful week. However, hanging out with friends in my room watching movies isn't a bad idea either.

Stephen

Drinken

Alyssa

The most popular organizations on campus would probably be RHD, which consists of all the RA's, and perhaps SPB, the student programming board. I think that these two groups play a big part in the type of activities that go on throughout campus.

Nicole

The most popular group her eon campus is Alpha Chi Omega. We are pretty fabulous and raised 18,000 last year for the fight against domestic violence.

Jessica

The most popular team on campus is probably the ice hockey team. A new stadium was just built and a lot of hte stuednts go to the games and get pretty into it. If im awake on a tuesday night at 2am im usually in my common room with my roommate listning to rascal f latts and doing homework. There are a few frats and sororities. One of my roommates is in Alpha Chi Omega and they usually have various fundrasiers and formals through out hte year. There are three soroities and two frats.

Sarah

its fun to go to the hockey games and to go into new haven to a club with friends. during the week its more about school and doing homework. and sometimes i go to events held by clubs or the school as a whole.

Emily

There are 75 clubs and organizations to be a part of. 5 Sororities and Fraternities. Lots of things to do on the weekends that are planned by students. Seniors live off campus as of right now but there are lots of local bars and restaurants in the area that people go to on the weekends as well.

Arielle

I do not feel that there is a specific group or club that is most popular, there is a club/or group that will interst everyone. Student do leave there doors open in the halls, exspecially in Irma/Dana. My closest friends are my roomates and a bunch of other girls on my hall. On Saterday nights there are many things to do that doesn't involve drinking because QU After Dark is always programming activities.

Rebecca

I feel that Greek Life is a huge part of our campus. I am involved in Alpha Chi Omega and it changed my life. I have met the most amazing people and it has really help me to come out of my shell. I have done so many things that I would never have done without them. I metmy closest friends at the end of freshman year and they have been my best friends ever since. I think that people party from Thursday till Saturday. I think that if you do not want to party you can go see a movie or do some events that the Student Center sponsors.

Colleen

The most popular organizations would be Student Government Association, Habitat for Humanity, Greek life, Hockey, Lacrosse. Students definitely leave their doors open so that people can come in and socialize. I would be hanging out with my roommates jsut goofing off at 2am. People party a lot but not everyone does...but a majority of people make that their focus.

Brianne

Dorm doors are kept open for most of the time. There are many events on the weekends to keep busy if you don't go out into New Haven.

Sasha

GREEK LIFE <33 and Quinnipiac has a lot of good guest speakers, we just had a "take back the night" sponcered by WAVE and others... great speaker miss CT 2006

Allie

Greeks are different this campus. They are interested in community service and philanthropy as well as educational excellence and having fun. Since we aren't as large of a group as on most other campuses and we don't have houses, the social scene is often more different. We have socials off campus as well as our fundraisers, formals and any other activities. There are so many different student activities/clubs to choose from that there is something for everyone to pick from. They are always hosting events for people to go to. Partying on campus is ok. It isn't anything huge because of the size of the dorms and the fact that houses are farther from campus then they might be from other campuses. Also, since we are so close to New Haven, there is a great night life there. They have nightclubs, bars, theaters, and many many tasty restaurants. They also have great shopping there.

Emma

Some of the biggest organizations are Greek life, Student Government, Quad, the Hockey team, Lacrosse team, baseball team, and softball teams. I am in the future teacher's organizations which is mostly people in my major and we plan activities and fund raisers that help local schools and give us the opportunity to have more experience and information about our specific fields. The athletic events are really popular, the speakers would depend on who it was and the theatre is popular with people supporting their friends are going for a class. I haven't dated on campus but I meet guys in my dorm or on the weekends, my roommate is dating our neighbor it's really sweet. But there are definitely more girls on campus than guys. I met my closest friends freshman year in my dorm. If I am awake at 2 am on a Tuesday I am either studying or really mad at my roommates. Every year there parent's weekend which is so fun and May weekend which was the best time I had all freshman year. There is also the faculty holiday dinner when the faculty serve the students dinner before winter break it's awesome. Most people party on Thursday-Saturday nights and not necessarily all three. The fraternities and sororities are present on campus but you do not have to be in one to fit in. Last weekend I stayed in on friday night and made dinner with my roommates and saturday night we went to a friends room on campus. On saturday you can have a movie night with your friends, go out to dinner, go to a movie, go shopping, or have a game night.

Kelly

QU offers a lot of student activities throughout the weekends for those who don't drink, although I know people who don't drink that aren't necessarily satisfied. Greek life here isn't huge, but those who are in it love it. During the week there aren't parties or anything (besides thursday nights), so most people are doing work...on the weekends there's a good amount of partying but a lot of people go into New Haven to the clubs and bars. Most people have fakes. There isn't one really popular organization on campus, but a lot of opportunities are given to all students to join as many as possible.

Dale

A lot of what we do is on campus parties, off campus parties, New Haven scene on Thursday nights, and sometimes off campus in New Haven on Saturday nights.

Jacque

The most popular groups on campus to be a part of are SGA, Radio Station,Greek Life and Student Programming Board. There are many ways to get involved but it isnt mandatory for you to fit in, those who want to better their experiences are seen involved alot more in the student activities.

Dana

I love being a part of greek life, and i think we have the most fun, involved, and intelligent population of the students. In my dorm, doors were alwaysss open. Freshmen year my floor and the floor below us met and are still BFFE's today (we're all seniors). People party in dorms because its not always easy to get off campus. There are always activities every weekend that don't involve drinking, but i'd suggest it. Or at least to go to the parties, even if you don't drink. I honestly don't think anyone would pressure you to drink (i've had friends who would constantly hang out with us but not drink).

Sarah

I feel that the most popular organizations on campus are the Greek organizations. They definitely have the most active membership. The organization I am involved in is Phi Sigma Sigma, and I met some of my closest friends through this organization. The dating scene at the school is kind of hard to get into because there are many more female students than there are male students. If I am awake at 2am on a Tuesday, I am most likely doing work. I feel that people party a lot. Sororities and fraternities are important on this campus, they are involved in a lot of events that are sponsored on campus. I went to the bars in New Haven last weekend, and I attended the Quinnipiac play at the Longwharf Theater.

Lauryn

The most popular organizations on campus are the greek organizations. Being a part of greek life, all organizations are extremely predominant on campus and constantly holding events. There are a lot of partiers here, but the social life of many mainly consists of going out to local bars and clubs. Every night there is a different place that is the "place to be." May Weekend was a big part of the social life here at QU but they recently got rid of it. There are constantly different speakers and events going on every weekend but they do not always have strong attendance. You do not need to drink to have fun though. I know there are people on this campus who dont drink and love it here. Athletic events aren't as big on this campus but hockey games are a big deal. Everyone attends them and goes crazy.

Nicole

Phi Sigma Sigma. We donate to the national kidney foundation. Greek life is a great way to be involved.

Anida

all clubs are great need to join ones you have interests in

Christine

Athletic events aren't as popular as they should be. Students only go to the games when there are freebies and then leave before the game is done which is very frustrating for dedicated fans like the Crazy Bobcats. Most people leave their dorm doors open if someone is in the room, if not they are closed and locked because of theft problems. Frats and Sororities do not have houses on campus. They are mostly charity organizations that try to raise money for certain events and perform community service. They are not meant for only party people.

avery

I'm staff but I've been invited to great events by undergrads who were involved with things such as "Invisible Children".

James

Well, basketball, hockey games are really popular here. There is a lot of drinking and partying that takes place on campus, thursday, friday and saturday nights. Some times also on the week nights. Most students consider thursday night as a weekend night.

Caroline

Quinnipiac has New Haven just down the road. Thursdays is Hula Hanks night. Friday is on campus night. Saturday is Toads night. Quinnipiac parties usually from Thursday-Saturday, but Wednesday is a big one too. Frats don't have big parties, and the "sports houses" rarely have parties.
