there isnt i can or cant, its only about i want to and i dont want to. in other words only if you really want, you can be the person that you dream to be

College has given me to great things. The first is a great education that has prepared me well for a job in my prefered field of engineering. The second is a chance to grow and really learn about myself. When you go away to college, you not only learn how to take care of yourself, but what kind of person you are. I think if I had just started working after high school, I never would have gotten the opportunity to find what I really love, and give back to my community like I have been able to at college.

Candice

I have gotten how to get things on my own. Without having my mother by my side at all times I have learned how to be a strong young adult that I know I am. I can get my own medications, buy my own necessities and making my own choices. College has given me the chance to meet new people from all around the world. There are people that I have met that have helped me out when I was down and needed someone by my side. I have found great mentors. Living in the dorms makes me feel like I have my own living space with my own things.

Shelby

Throughout college I have been able to meet new people and network. I have also been exposed to different cultures and different people. It has been valuable because I believe that my experiences that I have had will help mold my future.

I am the first person from my family to attend a university. My family is from mexico and no one has a degree of any type. Most of my family members have blue collar jobs and they have a very low standard of living. I grew up with a single mother who had to raise a household and me and my sisters on a very low income. Life has been a big struggle and unfortunately so has our standard of living. I understand that education is key to evolving as a person and also increasing one's standard of living. Educated individuals are better off and can provide a higher standard of living than people who do not educate themselves or persue higher knowledge or education. My primary goal is to persue an education and graduate from a university. Many people dont value this and take this for granted. To me its the key to imrpove my life and my families life. I value the opportunity that I have and will always strive to educate myself even after I graduate. I have gotten alot out of my education up to this point and feel very privaledge.

Colleen

My college experience has been enlightening in my life. As an originally shy person, college has broadened my outlook on life. I have been able to participate in different organizations in college that have bettered me as a person. My freshman year I was able to be an officer in SFCC's Spanish Club. Now, in my second year of college, I am able to work in the admissions office and as a mentor to incoming students at SFCC.

Kyle

So far, though I've only been attending a single semester, I've learned quite a great deal. I'm not sure that all of it is good, but I've learned it as the school necessitates. I've learned to understand why, exactly, I'm in school, and to keep my focus on my goals and aspirations. I've learned that it's okay to disagree with authority figures, that it's okay to be open about it, and that it need not be confrontational. I've learned to communicate concepts and ideas more effectively in art, and what the fine arts community at large will expect of me. Throughout my college life I've grown more and more open-minded, beyond what I previously thought possible. I've learned to slow down and really appreciate the things that truly matter in life, like relationships. I've learned never to take what I have for granted, and that working for what you want makes it much more valuable. To conclude, I've learned that life doesn't wait for me or anyone. If I want something, I have to go and get it.

When I was applying for college, I was told that it would be hard because it's a whole different world from what I had been used to in high school. At first I was afraid because I didn't know what to expect. Once I got to college, I saw that it was something different and more beautiful then high school. I am a physiology major and I love it so far. When I leave I know I will have a sense of accomplishment that I wouldn't have had if I didn't attend college. I have become more independent, which puts fewer burdens on my parents because they worry about me. They know I can take care of myself now. I have learned so much in these past three semesters that I have been here. I have learned to help and give to others. I have made great friends. I hope to make great memories in the future. Because of college, I know I can accomplish anything. I have confidence that I can reach my goal of becoming a pediatrician. . I am still experiencing everything college has to offer and everyday it is something new.

Hannah

I have learned many different things that I could use in later life.

Natasha

I have learned that life outside guided hours and punishment for being late for classes its hard to stay on track. You have to put all of your heart and soul into college and really want what your going for. Wanting to be a Veterinary Technician I need to be prepared for long work hours and alot of hard tedious tasks. My college experince has opend my eyes to the fact that sometimes you have to really keep your cool even when someone cant answer any of your questions, or have any idea what there doing. It takes alot of patience and focus to be in college. I have my family and friends right by my side encouraging me because they know I have all the ambition I need to make into this program. This new life has shown me I need to value my time and myself alot more than I do. I put my best foot forward everyday I walk into that building, take a deep breath and dive right in. Being a college student is hard work no matter what your there to learn, and its important to always make sure youre working toward your goal.

Madelaine

I transferred to the University of Arizona in 2009 because I wanted an adventure. I had lived in Illinois for my entire life, and even attended another university for a year before deciding to move. I expected to spend my week days studying and my week ends hiking in the Arizona mountains. I was anxious about the large campus (there are four times as many students as people who live in my home town), but excited for the warm weather. While hiking and studying have definetly been a part of my expierence in Arizona, they are not what I will remember ten years after I graduate. As a result of being here, I have discovered in myself a passion for reproductive justice and women's rights, and a writing talent I had not known existed. I am now an event leader with the Planned Parenthood community action team in Tucson. I made the dean's list the first semester I took classes in my major. I have found a place where I am challenged, and am able to surpass each challenge presented to me.

Gimmie

I am in the nursing program of John Tyler Community College. My experience in this program is great because I consider this as a stepping stone for a decent career on the future. We study in-depth health assessment and intensive care on patients. I can see myself on the future as a nurse and all the lectures and laboratories we have in school serve as a preparation on the real world if I pursue the nursing career. I enjoy doing this kind of activity and if it will work out, I'll pursue my bachelor's and even post-graduate's degree (if it really goes well) in the medical field.

I have learned quite a bit over the last 3 years attending the University of Arizona. Many of the classes my first two years were the general education requirements, which at some points were interesting, but it wasn't until I started to get into my upper-division classes related to my major that I really started to gain a new perspective on the world around me. Being an Economics major in this current economic downturn has been very eye-opening to say the least. Not only is the area of study very academically intense, it is also very practical, in the sense of how the world operates. The things I have learned throughout college so far are things that I will be able to take with me when I leave, not only the specific school related things, but also how to deal with others. My experience here at college has really taught me alot about how to deal with people. Almost all projects in the business school are group projects. These experiences have taught me to effectively work with others. Overall, my college experience has been valuable, and I have gotten more out of it than I had expected.

Miranda

Going to college has taught me how to be very independent and be able to take care of things on my own with out having to call my parents when something comes up. I see alot of students my age who still have to rely on their parents for almost everything. I work part time at my college and have learned how to manage my time in between my studies and work. It is definetly a balancing act that I feel I have perfected. It is very important to me to be able to support myself and not have to rely on others to help me out. Even when I get married one day I want to make my own income and be a strong contributer to my household. Going to college has given be these ambitions and majoring in Engineering is a good step in that direction. It has be a very valuable asset to my growing experience and look forward to my last two years.

OiYan

My college experience has been great so far. I meet people that are willing to help when you are not understanding the course material and form study group to help everyone to have a better understandin. I have also met people that would not laught at me ( as a non-native speaker) if I pronounce something differently. If I can pick again, I would still pick University of Arizona as my first choice.

Reanna

So far, my college experience has shown me the importance of certain skills I didn't have in high school. It has taught me to think outside of the box and grow as an individual, too. It is valuable to attend because it is giving me the opportunity to create an amazing life for myself in the career field I am extremely passionate about. I'm learning so many new things and I just know once I graduate I'll be set for life.

Laura

I have learned from my college experience that the value of a college education means more than just having fun and trying to better yourself, its a matter of self-worth, attitudes, beliefs and morals that develop as you gain your education. Attending college has always been a dream of mine and now to be able to achieve this dream has given me the strength to push forward for future goals. Goals that I want to achieve for myself, my children, my husband to provide them with a foundation that education matters, no matter the age you always have the ability to gain a post secondary education if you put forth the effort and motivation. I want to acheive my goal for my education to be able to look for a job that I can call a career!

Lindsey

College has gave me something to be proud of myself for doing. Attending college makes me feel as I am doing something to better myself for my future. I will be secure and not have to live check to check every month. A college degree is like a soilder to me. It keeps me from walking into situations in my life all alone.

Stefan

I have become wiser to the ways than I should interact with another individual, regardless of what that person may know. It was beneficial for me because it helped to prepare me for a career in kinesiology, which I plan to continue to prepare for. I have also learned that by trying to make your own options and finding those that will aid you, instead of relying on those presented to you, you often will find a better option that you did not realize could be an option when you first began. The food was healthy, the classes were engaging, and the teachers never turned down a student's request to help understand the material. I have gotten much more than could be written by words though, for college has given me the first steps in the right direction for life.

Kathleen

I am now a senior and have gotten so much out of my college experience. Since my first year at the University of Arizona I have only grown more as a person intellectually and socially. I have learned so much through the various classes that I have been able to take, not only from the textbook material, but from my knowledgable professors. I have been able to gain real world experience while attending my school which is now helpful as I search for jobs. One aspect that stands out to me that has made my 4 years valuable, is the friendships I have made. I joined a sorority as a freshman and through that outlet as well as being in clubs and just being in classes, I have met so many new people. I know here I have made friends that I will know years down the road and that was one of the things I wanted coming into college. You can't get that at every school, but I was blessed to find some of the most amazing people at the University of Arizona.

Leticia

Im currently starting to attend a college by the name Career Care Intitute. I have had orientation in this college and it has been a great experience as of now. This school has opened my mind to many opportunities and chances for my future. The staff at Career Care Institute is strictly of professionals so they tend to provide us with exactly that profesionality. It's going to be a great experience and of great challenge to attend this college but I know that I am capable of that and more. They are very strict and follow all policies and rules so that will help me get a better education and better understanding of how life is in the "real world." It's gonna be of great value to attend college because not only are they preparing me for a greater future but it will also be in the field that I most likely enjoy because I enjoy helping people and this career will help me succeed in all those aspects of my life.

Alyssa

It has been valuable for me to attend college ,because education is important

Maren

My college experience has provided me with the ability to think analytically and critically. It has taught me fairly clear communication skills. I attended a study abroad program to Italy, which allowed me to live in a small Italian city for five weeks and experience classical Greek art in person. This was probably one of the most valuable of my college experiences, because it exposed me to a completely new culture and introduced me to wonderful new people. College has provided me with a better understanding of the literary canon, the second most valuable experience I gained from attending college. It has given me insight into our cultural history.

Morgan

I feel I have been able to far better find myself as a person in my time at college than I did in my previous eighteen years. Before college, I expected myself to be a neurosurgeon, and a future salary was my primary concern. From meeting other students and professors of varied backgrounds and aspirations, I learned that my previous career goal, not coincidentally one that was pushed by my parents, was not for me. I learned that I was not a man focused on a six-figure salary, and I was not a man for the hard sciences, but rather a writer and a teacher at heart. More valuable than a differential equations class or a chemistry class was beginning the process of finding my true self. I cannot say that I have found the real Morgan Shnier just yet, but as it stands, I know that he is not a scientist or a salaryman, and that the University of Arizona has taught me that the real Morgan Shnier hopes to be a writer and professor. The most important, most valuable knowledge I have gained in my college experience is knowledge of myself.

Emily

I feel like college has really enabled me to hone in on myself and my own development. I've been able to discover more and more of myself and have been able to grow more as a person which I think has made it valuable to attend. I came into college not knowing what I wanted to do, and by taking gen eds I was able to realize my potential and discover what I wanted to do with my life. College has made it possible for me to focus on myself and my goals while learning to be independent. Without college I don't think I would be who I am today.

Jennifer

I have learned that is is not too late to go back to school and further my education . Even after having five children I am back in school full time and realize that even though this is something I should have done a long time ago, school is a great expirience. Returning to school has made my children more proud of me than they have ever been. THey see me doing it and it gives them hope that they can accomplish anything they want in life. Learning is something that never gets old and I hope to continue on with school until I have reached the maximum degree possible, and then start earning more degrees in different fields of study. I know that once I am able to get a great job helping others and doing ewhat I love I will also be able to make a difference in so may peoples lives. i will help strangers and loved ones alike. I will be able to care for my disabled father and my aging grandmother the way they should be taken care of. I now have a much stronger, much more positive outlook on life, I believe everything is possible.

Cortney

Attending college at age 19 and again in my mid-twenties, provided me with two very different experiences. I lacked the drive and discipline necessary to take college seriously during my first attempt. However, age has granted me the wisdom to discover what I truly want to do with my life and the maturity necessary to follow through and acheive my goals. Higher education has opened up doors for me that I wouldn't have had access to otherwise. It has made me realize that my potential is so much more than I ever imagined and with enough hard work and perserverance, I really can accomplish anything I set my mind to. College has helped me to really get to know myself and what truly interests me and makes me happy. That realization alone has made every essay, test, study session, and stress more than worth it.

Ian

I have realized the faulty nature of institutions. I have come to understand the 'real' world better. I have learned to burn myself with the fire that is thrusted upon me.

Maileen

College is an opportunity that in reality can either break or make you. In my case, college is my one and only opportunity to make something out of myself. Coming into this next life-changing experience, I was clueless of just about everything. Now, I feel like I’ve strengthen myself ranging from academic growth to developing into the adult I’ve always wanted to be. My outlook on life has matured because the more educated I become, the more I desire to get involved in helping to improve the world in any way I can. This is the reason why my career goal is to become a Dentist focusing in underrepresented areas. Learning is a never-ending process and by attending a nationally recognized university, I yearn for knowledge that will help me help others who can’t help themselves. The reason why I chose the dentistry field relates to my own personal self struggle of feeling accepted by others because I was ashamed of the one feature that displays one’s happiness, my smile. By becoming an altruistic dentist, I want to be there for those who are shielding their beautiful confidence behind a closed mouth.

Ujay

I have been home schooled, college gives me the opportunity to make new friends. It gives me the chance to further my education and follow my dream to be a doctor. College is teaching me skills that i use and will continue to use my whole life. most of all college gives my the opportunity to accomplish my dreams and help other people in the process.

Kayla

I have gotten out of college more than I ever dreamed of. When I graduated high school a couple of years ago, all I wanted to do was work. I got a job, but less than year later, I got laid off. I essentially didn't have anything to fall back on. I made a decision that I just didn't want to have a job for money, I wanted a career that I could enjoy for the rest of my working life. I have been attending college for two semesters now, and I love it. I love learning, period. I attend a community college and I adore all of my professors. My school is good quality with quality teachers and that's what makes learning enjoyable. I know I am getting a quality education. It is important for me to make myself and my family proud and happy for me. When my family is in trouble, I want to to be stable enough so they can lean on me.

saphiya

Even though I am only a freshman in my first semester, i have learned more than i thought i would learn. As a result of interning with Arizona Student Association, i gained many skills that will benefit my future. It has definitely been valuble to attend because everday is different and everyone a student actually leanrs something new. It undeniably came as a shock to me how much i would actually learn education and cultivated wise.

Devon

My college experience, thus far, has been absolutely incredible. I never imagined attending a school better suited for me. The campus has an extreme passion and pride in who we are. There are so many unique and graspable opportunities on campus to build friendships and relationships, making our campus seem friendly, motivated and determined. It has been valuable to attend due to the large number of students creating real-world situations. There are so many positive reinforcements that have allowed each and every student to grow, at their own pace, towards their desired goal. I have created so many vauable connections and friendships that will help advance my life-skills as well as my ultimate career goals, hence why I am attending college. Overall, my college experience has been somewhat of a dream, something I never thought would truly be happening to me, living the life of an ordinary teenager.

Claryssa

My college experience started off rocky but has grown into something that is truly remarkable. It's been a big transition for me to go from high school to college. College life was actually a lot more work than I had anticipated. I felt I had all the skills needed to be successful in colleg I just needed to snap out of the scare of "college" and apply them. I remember thinking at the beginning of the year how diffficult my assignments were and the different courses that assignmed them. I almost had second thoughts thinking I didn't actually belong in college. There were so many people that I felt were smarter than me it was intimidating. I have now learned that college is not about how smart you are because it became clear that there will always be more intelegent individuals. It is about understanding yourself (how you learn). It is ok to ask questions and not expect a clear cut answer. It the fact that you are thinking and engaging in material. Just that has helped me to not only be a better student but a better person.

Victoria

College was always just another step in life for me; it was what my parents and I had always expected I would do after high school, but I was never really sure what to expect. The first year of college is a period of hypergrowth. Few people actually realize it but after being in college for a month, life in high school can't compare. College was the first time I had ever lived away from home. It sounds like it would be scary but college-life doesn't allow for fear; immediately we are thrown into schoolwork and classes and suddenly it's strange going home and having a curfew or hearing "will you be home for dinner? I'm making spaghetti." College also changed my relationship with my family; every time I get to see or talk to them it is more special because I can't afford to take for granted my time with them. Regardless of whether or not college changes a person's study habits, there is an increase in emotional capacity and college forces hypergrowth in independence; college is essential in the positive development toward the person each individual hopes to become.

Floriana

After recently switching my major to business, I have learned so much. I found that I am a great leader and becoming a business entreprenuer is my true passion for the future.

Lauren

Experiencing a post secondary education is preparing me to function as an adult in a contructive way. Learning financial responsibility, time management, accountability, study skills and networking techniques will all help me in my future career and throughout my life. The most important part of attending college for me is the maturation and growth in my attitude. Attending college is not simply about attending class, maintaining my grade point average and getting a degree. It is about viewing the world in a different and more mature way and realizing how my actions towards others can have long standing affects. After taking a two year break after my freshman year of college I returned to Augustana in September 2010. I am grateful and appreciative that I was able to get a second chance at a college education despite mistakes I had made in the past. I now desire to learn for the sake of learning, not simply as a means to an end. For me, a college experience and education will never be taken for granted.

James

I have learned a lot and matured greatly. It has taught me a lot in life and gave the skills to achieve greatness.

When I first applied to the University of Arizona, I foresaw my relationship with the University as a quick, four-year program to be checked off The List- a stepping-stone, swiftly crossed in order to reach bigger and better things. My first year of college, I classified myself as a ‘motivated student’, justified by a high GPA, but in actuality, I was ambivalent and uninvolved. The decision I made one year later to study in South Africa completely changed my life. Rubbing shoulders with other international students from Germany, Holland, and many other countries, introduced a global perspective, breaking down mental borders I had created for myself and allowing me to think outside the box. Surrounded by highly motivated, post-graduate students raised the bar of personal expectations for education. An unknown passion for sustainable developmental economics in Africa was unveiled, tied with volunteer work in some of South Africa’s townships. By studying in a developing country plagued with poverty and inequality, I have recognized my generations’ progressively more important role in the sustainable economic growth of the “Bottom Billion”, and how globalization, the converging of people’s knowledge and skills across borders, will end world poverty.

College. The institution does not disappoint. Higher education is the key to a better future, not only for the student, but also for the whole world. College is a time for self-exploration as students step away from parental care and supervision, and it is what students make of it. I plan to learn as much as I can about all there is to know about engineering, and be an innovator and a dreamer in the engineering fields.

Sarah

My college experience has given me both professional skills and a strong sense of self-confidence. My majors (Finance and Management Information Systems) had challenging coursework with a well-structured business core curriculum. I feel ready to get a full-time job and to make a living for myself, thanks to what I've learned. During my internships, my schooling has been of tremendous value. My self-confidence is something that developed during college; I used to be a shy bookworm, and now I feel more comfortable talking to people and putting myself out there. Socializing with the diverse people in my dorm and in my major, as well as frequent group work, helped me to break out of my shell. With my knowledge and confidence, I'm ready to heady out into the world and make my mark.

Tawni

I'm not attending college just yet, I will be starting in January. I know it is important to attend college to get a degree to move forward in life. To get a good job you need a college degree. I would hate to work at a fast food resturant the rest of my life. College is a choice it's not required. So those that choose to go are going for the right reason. I'm excited to start college and move on with my life. You can go into so many different fields. College will be great.

Kelsey

There are two very important things that I have gotten out of my college experience. Suprisingly, they are not necessarily all-academic. One, I have found the ability to trust in myself and my abilities, academic and otherwise. Two, I have learned what is really important, and how to prioritize my life around my education, since that is what matters the most right now. I will be able to carry those two things with me for the rest of my life. So far, college has been very valuable for me to attend, but not as valuable as it will be later on in life. Right now, I am just trying to get through all of the hard work, so I can finish my education, and have a career to be proud of. I want a career that will help others, so my college education will be the most valuable then.

Nicole

College has taught me how to become my own person. As someone who has always followed under my parents' names, finding who I was as an individual was extremely important to me. At the end of this year, my parents will be moving to Australia without me, leaving me here on my own with no financial support. After receiving this news, I immediately began learning to conquer life's hardships on my own, including college. College has challenged me to form my own opinions and to question myself more than any other thing in my life. It has left me awake at all hours of the morning, caused friendships to falter, and driven my financial situation to a new low. However, in spite of all the hardships, college has taught me who I am as an individual, and that has made it priceless.

Mary

So far I have gotten many things from my college experience, and I have not even completed my first semester. I have learned to be responsible for myself--to do my homework on time, to go to class, to wake up, to pay attention and take notes, all without the nagging of my high school teachers and parents. College teaches people how to grow up. I think it has been valuable to attend because I have learned real-life skills that I cannot learn anywhere else. The University of Arizona has also provided me with work experience due to the many student worker opportunities around campus.

Zachary

Ever since i was little i knew the importance of going to college. I went to college to get an education so that i could get a well paying job in the future. While I have been attending i've realized college is so much more. It is a place to learn anything and everything you want. As long as you put everything you got into your work you will succeed on high level. I haven't just learned more in acedemics but also learned alot about my life and how to solve life's problems. I have met several good friends through college and hopefully will continue to meet more. College has had a huge impact on my life and i will definately keep attending till i am satisfied.

Martha

I am a first generation college student, and it has been very rewarding to make my family proud. It has also been a confidence boost and a professional development experience. I have been able to be actively involved on campus associations that have helped grow my network and get as many scholastic opportunities as possible. The experience has been very satisfying and has made me the professional woman I am. I feel confident and ready to take on responsibilities and challenges on any job, this is the result of working for the Financial Aid office for four years and still been a full-time student. I have been able to grow in my workplace and able to get an internship with the Superior Court Pre-trial Services in Tucson Arizona, and I think these is all the outcome of a good college experience. I have been able to take advantage of the opportunities given to me by my college experience and make the best of not only the good experiences, but also the bad and challenging ones because those are the ones that really made me grow and gave me the strength to keep going and attaining what I want.

Jessica

I have gotten so much out of my college experience. First, i have become much more confident in myself. I have always been shy and quiet, but attending smaller classes has allowed me to open up and express y ideas. Second, I have been able to focus on what i wanted to study. At first i did not know what i wanted to major in, but after taking classes i was able to figure it out. I also have been able to determine what i want to do as a career. If i decided to not attend college, i would proably have a decent job, but not in a field that truly inspired me. Know i now that i will be able to do something that i truly love .

Fransa

College to me isn't all that cracked up to be what it's pictured to be. It has taught me how to be independent. I have to register for classes, make sure I'm signed up for different things before deadlines approach, get to class on time, turn in work either online on in class on time, and so much more all on my own. College has also taught me that not everyone care about you and what you're trying to do in life. Therefore, you have to be determined to be someone and do something. You have to WANT to be in college to make a better life for yourself. Otherwise, you may give up after the first line you have to stand in only for the administrator to be rude and rush you out of line. College life has also taught me the need to be responsible and the need to have a schedule. You have to learn how to balance everything out such as homework, school work, work, house chores, etc. Life seems to be a speeding train when you're in college and hopefully at the end you see the rewards of attending college.

Being a stay at home mom running a small business I have found myslef struggling for financial help. I currently hold around a 3.8 GPA and always look forward to challenging myself I just need the financial help in order to succeed
