Virginia Tech is a great school. The campus is beautiful. the bus system we have here on campus is awful. However, the Architecture college specifically is very disorganized and the facilities are sub-par. I came here for the architecture school and i have to say i am disapointed

It is a very well-rounded campus based on diversity, There are a lot of extracurricular activities to join, the dining halls are great. Some housing buildings are not as great as others but are still ok. Class sizes depend on your major and year that you are in college, usually, they tend to be larger freshman and sophomore year, but lessen during the junior and senior year. People are very nice and are helpful. Professors do have office hours if anybody needs extra assistance.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Virginia Tech is a great school for those who wish to study engineering or business. The campus is beautiful and safe environment, the academics are fantastic for those seeking a challenge, and the food is ranked one of the highest in the country allowing students to eat comfortably. There are a few downsides to Virginia Tech though. On-campus living is almost always an issue every year as Virginia Tech accepts more students than they can house. This leads to second-year students having a low chance of living on-campus. Additionally, there are not many interesting activities off-campus with Blacksburg being such a small town. Overall, Virginia Tech is a great school that anyone planning on studying the two fields mentioned above should consider in their college search.

Academically, Virginia Tech is great. I feel like I wouldn't get the same quality of education elsewhere. The coursework is hard but its not so much that I feel like I am constantly drowning. The professors are wonderful. The school is huge so you are bound to make friends and meet new people. Virginia Tech is a college town so there isn't much you can do here. You can go hiking and cave diving and whatnot but if you're not much of an outdoorsy type person there isn't much you can do here on the weekends besides stay in and chill out or party.

Virginia Tech is a great college to attend. Personally, I think the greatest thing about the school is the food. The food options are unlimited, with something for everyone to choose from. Besides the food, there is not much of a party scene at Tech. Majority of the parties get shut down pretty early, unless you are into fraternity parties, but if you are a big party animal, Radford University is about 20 minutes away, so you can get your party fix there while still going to a great university like VT. Another great thing about Virginia Tech is the overwhelming sense of family and comfortability you feel as soon as you step foot on campus. There are hundreds of clubs and organizations, so everyone is sure to fit in somewhere and find friends.

I love attending this school. The people are so friendly and there is always something to do around the town. From studying to getting a bite to eat to watching a meteor shower, I am always getting invitations to do some awesome things. I have made so many life-long friends at VT and I am blessed to have have the chance to be a Hokie!!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Briefly, as it goes on, the more you want to leave. Academics is SO DIFFICULT here. I'm not one of those geniuses that brags about both my parents being engineers who pay all of my tuition. My mom teaches 6th grade math and my dad is a welder. I came here to try and make something of myself and to make them proud, paying my way entirely. All I've gotten over the last 4 years is discouragement and realization that, maybe, I shouldn't be here. The math department purposely makes their common time finals impossible to ace, let alone pass. Most math teachers I've had though are quite nice. The CPE department selfishly protects their degrees by also insuring that it's incredibly easy to fail. For average people like myself, if you're not studying for 40 hours a week or more, something, one of your classes will end terribly. From sources I won't disclose, GTAs are told to ignore students past a certain point of their confusion, rather than digging deeper to assist them. There are SO MANY professors here that really shouldn't be teaching, and should stick to doing leading edge research that got them into their comfy, apathetic teaching position. (another reason why community colleges usually have great professors) This being said, the degrees must be worth gold to employers, if they knew the torture we go through. Here's my bottom line. Took AP in high school and got A's? You'll be fine. You'll work hard but you'll have enough social time to look down on those like me and brag about your engineer parents. If you're like me and graduated high school with a 3.75, took 1 AP class but a few dual enrollment maths, watch out. Do not attempt to seek out social opportunities, but take half that come your way. Study virtually all of the time and prepare to work hard and literally suffer physically and emotionally for 4-5 years, only to leave, never wanting to see this place again, but proud of the degree you paid like $60,000 and 4 years of your life for. Man the college system need some rework. Alternatively just don't take engineering.

I love Tech and how close the community is. I wish there were more healthcare majors such as nursing but there is a health advising department that can you can talk to. The food is good but I wish there were more healthier options, like gluten free and vegan foods.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Virginia Tech is an amazing school for many reasons. First, there is no other school dedicated to creating well-rounded individuals like Tech. There is a heavy emphasis on academic growth as the university really tries to instill a passion for life-long learning on the students. Second, there is an equal emphasis on personal well-being. This isn't a university that pushes students to academic breaking point, they're constantly reiterating the importance of extra curricular activities and stress relievers. They're invested in their students happiness and welfare, and that is what makes Virginia Tech such an amazing school. GO HOKIES!
