Cynthia - 12/30/2023

I have been attending Daytona State College since 2019, and do not have many complaints. The more I begin my major’s program, the more availability I have noticed of the recourses they offer. In orientation for my program, I learned that we have a campus resource department called ‘Falcon HOPE Center’. I was amazed by this recourse and had yet to hear anything about it before hand. The Falcon HOPE Center provides all sorts of things like a grab and go food pantry, temporary bus passes, free professional clothing for interviews, laundry vouchers, school supplies, assistance with childcare, and so much more! They offer programs for those in need and are willing to help those who want to propel forward in life. Learning this really changed my opinion about Daytona State College. From an outsider perspective, DSC is just a baseline community college with the major pro of being ranked number four amongst lowest cost colleges in the United States (2020). Which in my opinion, coming from someone who pays for tuition out of (my) pocket, cost is the most important thing of all. Daytona State is not just a baseline community college though. We have amazing staff ready to assist you in any academic or financial needs. I have never had a problem with any of the staff, in fact I would rate them quite highly. One of the staff members in the testing center even went so far to say, “Come back here to let me know when you get your acceptance letter in the mail and I will congratulate you, because I know you’ll get in!” as I finished up my TEAS test (pre-nursing acceptance exam). He calmed my pre-testing anxiety and walked me through all my worries within the testing platform. He was correct by the way. I got into the nursing program! The only complaint I have is the social life. If you are looking for a big party life, making your besties that will be at your wedding, or trying to find the love of your life, DSC really is not that place. I love Daytona State and it is perfect for those who want to get their degrees without all the drama of a large student count.

I’m on my second semester of college at Daytona state college. This college by far has been the best college I’ve been to and learn at. This place makes you feel like you’re home. They care about you and care about helping the community. They will listen to you and help you in any way they can. I highly recommend this college to everyone.

Mackenna - 07/11/2023

I love Daytona State College. They have so many degree options to choose from. Career & Student Advisors are available to help determine my future path. There are a wide range of sports & clubs to join. Multiple campus locations are beneficial & I love the small classes sizes.

Hope - 01/11/2023

I love the science department, the professors, and the students! The advisors are hard to get a hold of, but your professors can register you and help you choose the right courses for you (depending on your major). Tons of opportunities for high schoolers doing dual enrollment, first time college students, and those you are coming back to school after a break.

  4. Describe the students at your school.

The diversity at Daytona State College is absolutely phenomenal. I am often in a class with students as young as dual enrolling fifteen years old high school students to seventy-five year old adult education students. Even in most working environments, this age diversity is not existent. I find it quit amazing to see this broad age range striving for the same goal, their degree. Daytona State College motivates their students to do their best in school; it is very obvious their message has gotten through by looking at so many ambitious students.

  7. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Daytona Beach Community College is no longer a community college, but a state college. The most frustrating thing about my school is there are not a lot of sports teams, or school spirit like there is at big universities, and I have always wanted to experience that part of college. The students dread going to school because it is just like high school for them. The teachers treat us like we are high-schoolers and I wish they treated us like actual college students even if it is not a bigger university.

This school, like any school, is what you make of it. There are great teachers and even better programs. This is a great place to start your academic life and to push you on to greatness. It's a relatively small school, but it has a lot of spirit The thing I really love about Daytona State College is the atmosphere of ambition. The school's main passion is to assist students realize their dreams and chase after them. The faculty realizes that most students are going back to school or are on their way to another school, so they do their best to send them on with as much know-how as possible. The thing about any community college is that there are lots of negative or derogatory remarks made. But, like I first said, any educational experience is what you make of it.
