What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Jeremy

If i could go back in time to speak to myself about my future college career my advice would come neatly packaged in two simple words, "just relax". All throughout high school i stressed myself out about the impending college experience and the overwhelming change that would follow. As Senior year rolled around, I found myself scrambling to find a college to call my own. Scholarships, recommendation letters, and college visits drove me insane. Fortunately the transition was not as difficult as I made it to be. Back in my Senior year this kind of advice would be like an oasis in the desert. Of course along with my advice would have to come an eventual disclaimer. Although college isn't be the complete nightmare i thoiught it would be, it's no walk in the park either.

If I was able to go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself not to worry as much. In high school, I worried a lot. I was really nervous that I would not make friends and that I wouldn't do that great in my classes. Knowing what I know now, I know that I have done really well in my classes and have met really awesome people. I would also tell myself to keep up the good work on studying and keeping up with my work in my classes. I would tell myself this piece of information because with the skills that I developed in high school from studying and working hard, it has helped me do really well in my classes. It also helps me not to be as stress with the workload that i have in college.

Kathy

I would tell myself not to stop at just a Liscensed practical nurse, to go further and finish a masters while i was young, it gets harder every year your not in school. To Have your education finished before starting a family, because you never know what will happen. I would also tell myself to take more classes and learn everything I could . To be young in college is always fun but it is a time to be serious as well. High school is nothing like college, they make you go to high school and to college its up to you to go to classes. I would assure myself that i could do this and a few years is not much to sacrifice for a life of being what you dreamed of being, I would remind myself of my dreams to be a business manager and be happy of my career decision. I would say that at 42 i wouldnt think i would be finally finishing my dream. but it is never to late to follow your dreams.

I have recently earned by Associate's degree which has given me a new found motiviation and determination. Now that I have successfully completed community college, I plan to earn my bachelor's in business-finance and then my master's in business administration online at Liberty University. I have learned how strong I am, and that I can accomplish what I put my mind to. I have learned to balance my family life with my education without cutting the corner on either. I have learned that a single mother who just 3 years ago thought her college days were long behind her, can start all over regardless of the circumstances and become a college graduate. Although I have stumbled a few times on my journey, I look forward to my future and earning my degree.

Nicole

I have learned what my purpose is in life. From my college experience I have grown and matured. I have held a part time job, while having the full time job as a student. I have learned about responsibility and the benefits of time management. I have come to find my love for chemistry and wanting to help people as well. I have gained knowledge not only for my dream of becoming a dermatologist, but also becoming a more well-rounded person. I have taken classes for contemporary issues and learning more about the world and the people who live in it. College is valuable to attend for not everyone gets this opportunity of a lifetime, to learn and make a change in the world.

Nina

Liberty University has been one of the best college expiriences that I could've ever imagined for myself. I have been challenged academically to be the best that I can be. The teachers are very encouraging and do not allow lazy students to continue in their fields. My study habits have grown so much since high school and I have learned to mature so much being away from home.

Kaitlyn

I have already gotten so much out of my college experience so far. I have learned that it is possible for a small-town girl to get in the car and drive ten hours away and still be fine. The road has been shaky at times, and I cried a lot in my room in teh beginning, but I do think that I could go anywhere else. It is valuable to attend any college for the education and all that you get out of it, but it is valuable to attend Liberty University because not only are you finding your way intellectually, but also spiritually.

William

Attending college has exposed me to other cultures from around the world, teaching me that we all may not believe the same, and have different feelings as far as our culture goes. But we all make up mankind, regardless of the work we do through life. Learning and experiencing the different cultures has opened my eyes to just how small man is in the universe.

Rachel

The value of education and obtaining knowledge is one of my deep rooted principles. That was my reason for attending a college, knowing I couldn’t afford it. However, college has blessed me with more than knowledge. Attending a college is valuable not only because one can better their career potential, but college initiates and supports human development. My personal reflection of how I lived and my thought process before college is almost embarrassing. Coming home and seeing my friends continue the life I would have lived without college is shameful but humbling. If God did not intervene and send me across the country to a school with the right environment to develop me, all my potential in life would have been lost. I have a future, I am healthy, and I am confident in life. My transition to adult hood and maturity is being strengthened through Liberty University. Overall, indeed attending a college reaps financial rewards in the future, but it also reaps an autonomous reward which, in my opinion, truly makes someone happy.

Angelia

I have received spiritual guidance and understanding. I have learned quite a bit in Business field. I believe that attending Liberty University is a valuable experience because it helps you to keep your faith and learn about other religions as well.

Danielle

From my college experience I have recieved a lot. I have learned how to be a responsible adult. My finances are better, my scheduling is better, and my mind has been challenged like never before. I was a little hesistant about going to Liberty University at first because it's so far from home but since I've been there I haven't regreted the decision one bit. Everyone I've met, everything I've done, and every class I've had has changed my life. I'm finding out who I am and loving every minute of it.

Jennifer

Out of my college experience so far I have received a greater passion for what I have been called to do with my life as well as a more positive outlook for what my future holds. I have gotten life-long friends who support me and will always be there for me even when we leave the school. Though there is such a diverse culture at this school, I have come to value everyone as individuals as we all are there for a purpose, to become champions of Christ! I have received a love for what I am learning through the knowledge and love that the professors express for the given courses and subjects. It's been valuable to attend Liberty because it is a step in my training to become a missionary. Liberty has helped me become a more versatile learner as well as more independant as an adult. It has also taught me that sometimes we need to rely on the help of others and allow people to help. God didn't surround us with friends for nothing. :-)

Keni

The reason that I love going to college is that everyone there actually wants to learn. The excitement, passion, and dedication motivates me to become a better student and a better member of the community. College has taught me that learning can be a wonderful and fun experience. I love sharing my knowledge with others. Anything that I learn in class that I find to be fascinating, I enjoy teaching to my friends. The best class I ever took at community college was Cultural Anthropology. It opened me up to the idea that cultures should be looked at in their own context, rather than comparing them to our own. Cultural Anthropology teaches acceptance – which is a lesson that many people in this country need. Maybe through courses like this, people in our country could become more open to other ideas, and subsequently stop creating violent situations over differences in opinions. College education has been such a valuable experience for me. It has created a passion for learning that has made me a better person.

Kayleena

I have gotten valuable life skills out of my college experience. I have learned time management, and how to deal with deadlines. I have learned it is not just about facts; it is about knowing the real content. I have learned how to think critically about issues. I have learned how to know what I believe and take a stance on it. I have learned you cannot just have knowledge, but you also have to have the wisdom to use that knowledge. I have learned how to serve my Lord, Jesus Christ, more effectively and efficiently. It has been valuable for me to attend college at Liberty University Online because I have learned all of these life skills. Since it is online, it is not the traditional college experience, but I have still enjoyed it. I am able to get a quality education, and still have time for the rest of my life. Liberty has given me a great college experience.

Gracie

Throughout my college experience, I have learned many things that I did not know before. I have learned that furthering your education after High School is the best choice any one can make. Having a better education will reflect on your future, and not only will it provide a better lifestyle for you, but also on your future family. Unfortunately, my parents were not lucky enough to graduate high school, so most of their lives they spent their time as migrants working on fields for long hours. I've been there myself, and I figured out that I did not want to grow up doing the same thing. Life is not easy at times. We might have obstacles coming our way, but I have decided to keep firm and look forward in life to the path God has planned for us. Attending college has been very valuable to me. It is the start of a new generation and hard work which will hopefully pay off someday. I would love to be able to buy my parents the house they've dreamed of.

Jonathan

My college experience has been very helpful to me so far. I have made many friends, some of which I will remain close with for the rest of my life. These friends have helped me grow in many different areas of my life. My college experience has also helped me academically. I can tell that at my university, the professors actually care about me, and they really want me to succeed. They do whatever they can to help. I have not only learned facts and statistics and other things that will help me earn my degree, but I have also learned various life lessons. Some of these include not procrastinating until the last minute to get things done and also always trying to go above and beyond what is expected of me. My attendance at Liberty University has also helped me get connected with others to help out the local community. I had always wanted to volunteer in my community, but I did not know where to start. At my school, they have many ways for how you can get involved in the local community. It is for all these reasons that my college experience has been valuable to me.

Klarice

One semester in college taught me alot about myself, others, and academaically. Within myself, I've learned that my natural triats strenghthened meaning if I am analytical , I become even more analytical. Secondly, I have learned about others. I have a diverse set of friends from different countries which allows me to differentiate between people in general. For example, my roommate is from Uganda so I learn about her culture. Third, college requires more reading , which means the whole high school mentallity vanished. Paying for school was a very complex task for me. I come from a low income family where finances were scarce and paying for school was limited. Growing up in this enviroment taught me caution and budgeting because in college I technically had to budget three hundred dollars for a whole year without a job. What I've gotten out of my college experience is learning. To use what I've learned makes it valuable to attend.

Jessica

I have always had a passion for education. College has allowed to me to further my own education so I can teach and hopefully plant the seed of passion for school in my own students. I love being able to take specialized classes that I choose and love. I have such a heart for learning and I can't wait to keep growing.

Kaylee

The college experience has helped me not only with my education, but also with my social skills. I have learned to become more independent and have learned more about myself by going to college. The classes I have started to take have helped me figure out what field of degree I would do best in when it comes to finding a job. Atttending college is valuable because you learn how to interact with other people from different cultures which is something that you will have to do anyways later in your job. Also it helps you figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are in the social world. Another reason that it is valuable is when applying for a job and filling out an application you can put a higher education on it.

Crystal

What I have gotten out of my college experience so far is that I have a more open mind with this crazy world we live in today. It has opened a lot of doors in my life to move closer to a degree that I will achieve one day. Liberty University has been valuable to attend to me because it is affordable and very convient for me taking classes online since I am a single mother of a three year old son.

Andrea

I have gotten a lot of valuable life lessons and information from my college. Because the text book learning that I have gotten I have learned a lot about people, life, and religion that I didn't know. It has been a valuable experience that I am still trying to decide if I love or hate it. Attending this school has also taught me alot about myself.. I have had to change my mindset about certain things about myself and other people. I don't think I would trade the experience because, although it was difficult to adjust, I have made a lot of friends and gained insight on topics I probably would not have thought on my own. The most important thing I have gotten out of the experience was the bibical information that I learned and because the experience was a new one, being away from home for the first time, I have to face my problems and how to properly deal with them.

Kaseja

I have learned to be flexible as I have met people from different backgrounds. I have learned how to organize my thoughts in a clear and concise way. I have learned the value of turning things in on time, showing up for class discussions and communicating thoughtfully with my professors. I have learned to agree to disagree and to be gracious when necessary. I have learned to go to the bathroom if I need to cry. I have learned to be grateful for attention from busy people, both students and teachers. And, I have learned to pack a lunch, because it's hard to find good food at the cafeteria.

Liltoyntia

I am the youngest of four and I am the first to graduate high school and soon college. I have learn so much about myself, my capabilities, and worth from attending college. Often times I wanted to walk away and find a full time job, however, I pushed through and I almost finish and the feeling cannot be measured. I have gained friends, a wonderful education, and the pride of going beyond the odds.

Rebecca

I have been at Liberty Univeristy for one semester so far, and I love it. The campus, the professors, and the people make the university worthwhile. Liberty's beautiful campus attracted me to it, and I enjoy all the facilities the school has to offer. Also, the professors want to help you succeed and they pray for you. I have learned so much in just one semester. Not only am I being educated, but I am also being encouraged in my Christian walk. Most people at Liberty desire to serve God with their lives, and so it is easy to make good friends who challenge you and encourage you.

Ebony

So far I have gotten out of my college experience that you do not need to party and drink to have a good time. This University provides so many activites for you to do that are so much fun. So far it has been valuable to attend because they are training you as champions for Christ to be able to go out in the world and still hold true to your Christian values. Not only that, academically it has been great! If you seek a wonderful Christian atmosphere with competitive academics and an awesome sports program, then Liberty University is the place for you.

Julian

Liberty University has taught me to be a man of integrity, and of my word. I have learned many things that will help me in my future and am anxious to learn more so that I can become the man that God wants me to be. The people are friendly, loving, and actually care about you as a person instead of just another student. The campus is beautiful and they are always building something new, because of that visual inspiration, I will never stop building up myself in life and working towards my goals. In the words Mr. Jerry Falwell Sr. “never, ever quit!” and I won’t.

Amanda

The thiing that I got out of my college experience is I have learned things that I will need in the real world while working. I have also met alot of profeesors that can give me life lessons and help me look for a new job when the time is right. They are also good people to ask for as references. It has been valuable to attend because I have learned so much like I said before. If I would not attend college then I would not have the classes I need to graduate and get the job I have always wanted. The reason I went to colloege is because I am having a hard time raising my son with no money. When I would apply for jobs they would not hire me because I have had no work experience.

DEMETRIUS

It has truly helped me in becoming more professional and has kept me very focused on meeting deadlines and managing my time. I truly do love my university.

Paul

From my college experience I have learned that nothing comews from not working. No matter how easy you think a project or paper is you still need to put your full attention into the assignment. If you go into a class thinking it will be an easy class because your roommate slept through most of it and got an A in the class doesn't mean you can do the same. For all you know he could be bending the truth. You have to put your own time into a class because what you put into the class is what you will get out of it. This can be taken to the real world a boss or supervisor will not pay special attention to you and consider you for that pay raise if you do the amount of work you have too. You need to do the amount of work that you can accomplish in the period of time allotted that is what gets you noticed and in return you can go places.

Considering that I am a returning student after years of being home-maker, going back to school has been a wonderful experience for me. I have become acquainted with adults of different ages, background, and may returning moms. I have been skeptical of the work load that was given by my instructors but with their help and outside availability, I was able to maintain my grades at a decent level. I had the priveledge of having a student advisor who not only directed me in the right path of classes to apply for but also became a wonderful support for any complains personal and non-personal. Also my advisor helped to focus on even future plans after community college unto a four year degree. At present time I am going through a difficult time in my life especially being a single mom of seven children and I never thought I could attend college again. I decided with all my might to make a big leap forward to alter my present situation for a positive change. A role model that my children can pattern after; each time I do well in an exam, they are content and proud of their mother.

Having completed three and a half years at Liberty University many lessons have been learned. The most valuable lesson that I have learned is to complete all tasks with excellence. Whether writing a paper or setting up chairs for an assembly, all tasks should be completed with excellence. Dedicated faculty coupled with an outstanding academic program has provided the opportunity for me to learn to complete all tasks with excellence while avoiding the acquisition of minimalistic behaviors and tendencies. As the largest and fastest growing Christian Evangelical University, it would expectedly be easy for students to slip through the cracks of the everyday happenings at Liberty. However, at Liberty which I have encountered enables each student to have a place in their class, a role to fill and a purpose to complete. Each faculty member provides means for involvement in student lives by taking an active interest in their students when permitted. I have learned not only cognitive knowledge but skills vital to achieving success in daily life and it is for this reason that Liberty University should be the top choice in which to pursue higher education.

Jordan

I have learned so much in just my first semester. It has been important for me to feel at home since it was my first time away from home for a long period of time and Liberty has been so much like home. I went into my first semester not knowing what I wanted to do with my life but Liberty has given me the opportunity to find out about all kinds of majors and I have decided to become a teacher and I attribute that to Liberty.

College experience for me has been one of the best experiences in my life. I was born in East Africa, Tanzania. I never knew that i will ever live in United States. I come from poor family thinking i will never attend any college or university and live in United States. I have been in United States for ten years now and all these years i just been working, i got married last year and my wife made me go back to school as i graduated from my high school in Africa. I have a GPA of 3.76 and plan to continue till i finish my degree in nursing. It is in deed a dream come true living an American dream. My mother in law too is a nurse too and i learn a lot from her too, so learning is a big part of my life. Next semester i am going to volunteer to teach math to middle school students who need help in math. Going to college make me realize how school is important for best future, because i don't want to be working in fastfood and restaurants forever.

Lauren

I have enjoyed my first semester at Liberty University. I left my small town in Pennsylvania and arrived in Lynchburg knowing absolutely no one. Within the first week of my arrival, I made so many good friends. People seem very interested in getting to know others, making you feel apart of the school, and just willing to let you into their world. Being a freshman, I wasn't sure of what to expect. I made my schedule with the help of an advisor, and hoped for the best. We did a great job! I loved my classes, loved my professors, and my classmates. The topics were interesting, but most intriging was other classmates perspectives. Not all of us agree on every issue, but we can appreciate others point of view. I have learned so much educationally, but even more so about myself. Am I willing to let others get to know the real me? Am I willing to get to know others? Theses are the questions that only can be answered by attending college. I am very excited about returning to Liberty after the Holidays. Thank you for your attention.

Seth

I most appreciate my college experience for providing a chance to learn about who I am and where I can best serve my community. Not only did I learn about myself and my interest in serving others through the psychology realm, but I met and married my wife. I made lifelong friendships, learned lifelong lessons, and married my lifelong love.

Jenna

I've gotten so much out of it! Since I go to a christian school, my religion is a big part of my life! My spiritual life has grown tremendously because of attending Liberty. Academically i've grown a lot too because i'm doing a lot better in school and I finally realize how important having an education is. I believe attending college is a big growing experience. You are on your own for the first time and can't just have your parents fix everything all the time. You have to be responsible and be able to choose for yourself if you are going to hang out with friends the night before a test or just stay in and study. I went to a school 7 hours away from home and i've lived in the same city my entire life so it was definitely a big change but it made me grow up a lot. College changed me as a person and I believe it changed me for the better. I'm so happy I made the decision to go to college even though money is tight.

susan

I love going to college. I am learning new skills which I will be able to use to find a job. I am going to school for an Associates in Graphic Arts. I should get my Associates in 2012 and I am considering continuing for a Bachelors Degree afterwards. Computer Science is challenging and fun and I enjoy every minute of it.

Faith

Attending Liberty University has been one of the best choices I have ever made. I have made some life long friends, who, I know, will always be there. The classes that I have taken have taught me a lot, and has helped me to apply the things that I learned to everyday life. I am constantly surrounded by encouraging people. I would never trade going to Liberty University for anything in the world. This has been one amazing, life changing experience!!

Georgianna

The college experience of this last year has challenged me to be a better person and to want to make those around me better as well. I have realized that life isn't all about me and my plans and agendas. There's a bigger picture. And as I live in a dorm and interact with fellow students around campus, I'm seeing glimpses of that picture. True, I am here for my education but what is it for? Ultimately, it is to achieve the goal of a degree that will enable me to go out and serve the world in a capacity that will impact the way they live. And I have realized that it has been immeasurably valuable for me to attend the university where I am in order to gain the tools and skills I need to interact and effectively communicate with others. It is so important for me to put forth my best effort in my classes so that my education is well-rounded and so that I am fully equipped to accomplish the tasks I am asked to do in the future.

Tiffany

My experience at Liberty University has greatly increased my knowlege not only about nursing (my pursued career) but about my Savior, Jesus Christ. I have had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world; therefore, increasing my knowlege about different cultures. I am currently in my Junior year of the nursing program and this year, by far, has been my hardest year academically. There have been weeks when I was completely stressed out and just wanted to give up, but by God's grace I have been able to continue. This has reminded me about how there will be difficult times in life, and it has helped to shape me into the future nurse that I will be. Through my classes and clinical experiences I have learned so much about critical thinking, thinking in an applicable way, and studying to learn and not regurgitate for an exam. Not only have I been challenged academically, but I have also been challenged to be involved with my local church. My involvment at church has helped me to learn more about Christ and have an opportunity to meet people of all ages.

Justin

I have learned that sometimes in life nobody will be willing or able to help, so one must try with all their might to succeed. The one's who have the strongest will to succeed will in fact, find that success in their respective fields.

Jimmy

First and most importantly, I have found who I am and who God wants me to be. Of course I have gained much knowledge about a variety of different subjects, but I have excelled greatly in my understanding of the world around us and the people within the secular-based social infrastructure of society today. I have learned to put others before myself and to always give freely and expect nothing in return. I've learned that college is not about drinking and having sex and just acting immature for a few more years, but it is about your future; it is the time to transition from an immature teenager to a mature adult who is marketable to the work force upon graduation. College has brought a lot of struggle upon my financial situation because my family cannot pay for it so I've been working and paying for it completely; but I am thankful for the opportunity to attend Liberty University because it has drastically changed my life. I've realized that life, at least at the moment, is about struggling and perserverance in preparation for after college because life will only get harder.

Alexandra

College has been the best experience in my life. When I entered college I never imagined the experiences I would have. College is not just an educational experience but also a mental growing experience. I have learned more about myself in my two years in college than I did in my entire high school experience. I have mastered skills in organization and preparation. As well as becoming involved in every club, fundraiser, or organization that my time would allow. My most valued experience though throughout college has been meeting different people and learning about their cultures. Every individual is raised differently and it is fascinating to me to understand the variations in every household. I love to meet new people and hear how they grew up and why they are the way they are. During my lifetime I would like to travel the world to continue my growing and learning of different cultures. Thanks to college my eyes have been opened to ideas I have never even imagined.

Ashley

So far what I have gotten out of my college experience is a great education. I have been challenged not only as a student but as a person to just go beyond my expectations and excel. It has made me come out of comfort zone alot because I am now apart of Alpha Delta Omega Sisterhood. I am actually making a difference in the lives of the women and teens that I meet. Also just being able to go to a college that we all grow spiritually together is so amazing. As a student body we all push each other to go beyond our comfort zone and to strive to be better.

Daniela

Before I entered college, I thought I had my life planned out. I'd get my degree, become a psychologist and earn enough money to live a comfortable life. I wasn't always sure that I wanted to be a psychologist, so I started off college with my core classes and tried learning about different jobs. Although I do want to help others, I realized that I was more interested in what a person does and how a person works. I realized I was more interested in the social sciences and history. Going to college has made me realize my full potential and helped me change for myself.

Sabrina

Liberty features an exceptional experiance from all other colleges, it is the largest Christian University filled with school spirit and fun. Even though I have not yet attended Liberty, I will be transfering next year, and just one visit for the weekend sold me. Their students and staff were very welcoming and were very helpful in my school searching process. After attending one campus church session, it was evident that they take care in their students, after they shared a story of a student whom came down with an almost deathly mono infection and was near death but was still living that day and improving, they even had staff visit him in the hospital. After attending that service, I knew that not only was their campus fun but they were considerate of their student body.

Adrienna

It has been valuable for me to attend college because I am able to build myself up to become the person I need to become....I am also able to share with other people in my life the value of education! Overall college has been a platform for me to network, build skills and a spiritual relationship with God, and interact and learn from my peers.

Jessica

I have gained a lot of life experience. I have some gained some life long friends. I have also gained growth in my spiritual beliefs by attending this college. Liberty Univesity has helped me become the person that I am today.

Adryanna

It has been a great school that manages to uplift you as you work for your degrees. It has been especially wonderful for not being as pricey as a campus sort of schooling, since the lessons can be done online, but the caampus is also open for visitations or classes both online and residental.

Angie

I am getting a quality education filled with the word of God. I love learning about the word of God and able to work on the other classes in the mix of it all.
