What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Carolyn

Here I have gotten an amazing Christian education along with education in key important classes, such as English, Bio, Math, just like at any other college, but theology and philosophy classes here are taught with a Christian values incorporated here. You will be enlightened, but not pushed towards Christianity, here it is left for you to decide your future. Classes are important here, but that's only half of the college experience, but here we party in different way than most schools, we don't drink alcohol here or smoke, but we enjoy our friends and finding coffee shops off campus, as well as enjoying concerts and movies.

Samantha

There are people here who actually care about you. this is a very big school, but that doesn't stop the love and care the students feel around campus. The experience I've had here is irreplacable and I would easily do it over again.

Sharlette

Well unfortunately I didn't develop good study habits through it all but I did learn the value and importance of making good grades. I learned a lot about society and the business world and soon I will learn about the health world. I will be attending college once again in Summer 2011 for radiology. College is so valuable because not only are you expanding your knowledge, but you are also gaining knowledge on political things and events happening in America. I am not into politics at all but going to college helped me stay informed about issues I knew nothing about and I'm very thankful for that. My experiences while going to college will always stick with me through life and the ones soon to come will just give me more to smile about.

Amber

College is not just for career preparation; it is more accurately life preparation. College provides the opportunity to learn how to effectively manage time, resources, financial responsibility, and society's diverse nature. The two most important benefits I have received is the continuance in development of self discipline and personal growth.

Nathan

I have gotten so much out of my college experience that I cannot imagine having gone without it. Not only have I challenged myself, and been challenged to learn more and think better, but I have been exposed to incredible diversity. The awesome thing about college is, not just the learning, but getting to know people from different areas of the world, different cultures, and different perspectives.

Collin

My identity in Christ is the most valuble thing I have gotten out of this school. There is nothing so more valuble in the world than an assurance you are Loved by Jesus Christ and he has died for your sins and transgressions. He forgave me, I have his forgiveness and now eternal life in Him.

Samantha

When I was in college I found a community that was there to help me no matter what I needed. I learned things in school that I've never known before. Unfortunately, when I graduated from college I earned a college degree that has been no use to me.

Dina

Being here at Liberty has been such an amazing experience. They expose you to so many positive stuff, such as, church, clubs to help you be a better person, and all sorts of activities. It has been very valuable to attend because this university is like no other. I have watch many students go off to college and come back a different person but this university allows you to be yourself without being pressured to change. On the spiritual note, if you do not have a personal relationship with Christ, they aided you in every way possible to draw you close to Him.

Jessica

So far thanks to my college experience I have grown as a person and have learned how to do things for myself now. Thanks to my major, aviation, I now know how to fly a plane. College is valuable because it opens doors for my future and gives me a chance to have a career as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.

Jessica

From my college experience, I have gained a new perspective of the world. My previous attendance at a small, country school made the world seem much less intricate and complex than the world my college instructors alluded to. I learned how much the things we do are interconnected with the choices and lives of others who don’t live in our town, state, or country, which gave me a whole new understanding of how international relations work. But beyond this, I discovered where my place in this big, interconnected world is. I learned that I am perfectly cut out for a career in Music Therapy. Though the world is big and we are small, we can still make a big difference in the lives of those who we come into contact with. College has taught me that I can excel in Music and in Science, which are both used in Music Therapy. Using this awareness I plan to equip myself to make a big difference in the lives of those who are in need of this kind of care, and in the lives of those who I come into contact with along the way.

Sarah

College has been amazing. I've mature so much since I started and learned a lot about myself. I really enjoy my classes, this school has some pretty awesome teachers. And the people at my school are so welcoming it already totally feels like home, with the people on my hall feeling like my family. College is way better than high school because you can be a lot more active and spend a lot of time during the day outside. Since coming to college I've learned to manage my time better and to take responsibility for things asigned to me.

Rigorous thinking is sorely undervalued in today's society, and my aim is to revive it in a unique way: through the art of film making. Recently, the cinematic industry has been producing movies (as well as television series) that have been mindless and cliche--with a few exceptions. Those exceptions--"The Matrix," "Inception," and "LOST," for example--are my inspirations, and a solid university education is my means for accomplishing this vision. Bertolt Brecht, the German playwright, once said that "[w]e need a type of theatre which not only releases the feelings, insights and impulses possible within [a] particular historical field of human relations . . . but employs and encourages those thoughts and feelings which help transform the field itself." No longer can the movie industry produce mindless movies--we must create masterpieces which will stretch and exercise the minds of the public. I have been producing videos since seventh grade, but the education and practice I am receiving now are certainly an invaluable asset to the overall effectiveness of my work. My college experience thus far has certainly been extremely valuable in that it has challenged me to "think above and beyond."

Sadie

What I got most from my college experience was real world experience. Although I go to a Christian university there is still a lot of things I had to learn about how to manage money and my time and how to manage my relationships with other people. It has been extremely valuable to attend Liberty because not only did I get my education but I got a closer relationship with people and with Christ and I also got to see how much I could grow. It has truely been amazing.

Alison

I have gotten experience that I will never be able to loose. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Jessica

I am a former LPN student from Lancaster Career and Technology Center. My goal was to further my education after being a single mother . I realized in order to be where i wanted to be, and have a fulfilling and rewarding job, i would need to work hard despite any circumstances. I now work as an LPN at my daugthers Elementary school. I now desire to continue and earn a degree as a Registered Nurse. Although, i do not have the neccessary funds to be accepted into an RN program at this time. I am supporting myself and my 3 year old with an income of 18,000/yr. It has not been easy, but to have the chance to go back to school and earn an even more rewarding degree, and help care for the lives of others would be a dream come true. Eventually, i would love to work in a trauma or emergency unit at a hospital. I would like to be a guiding light for my daugther as she grows and realizes the importance of education, hard work, and a meaningful career.

Rachael

I have learned so much already about Psychology-Christian counseling through Liberty University. The classes are excellent and packed full of valuable information without being boring or over-consuming. The experience has been great because I can do it all on my own pace and the online teachers are great. I look forward to being able to finish my degree and go out and help other people in making their lives better.

What I have gotten out of my college experience is a sense of independence. Throughout the K-12 years, I never had true freedom of choice in any of my decisions. Classes were chosen based on the requirements needed to graduate and with all of the core classes and budget cuts in our way, electives were never really an option. Everything was done with the purpose of looking good on a college application. Now that I am in college, I get to choose which major I want to do and even though there are class requirements, the knowledge that I will be able to take more interesting classes based on my subject of interest later exists. Knowing that all of the decisions that I make now will directly influence the future that I will have makes college and the experience invaluable. Now that I’m in college, learning to stand my ground is crucial. Now is the time I need to step out from behind my parents’ shadows and take my first step out of fairytale middle-class suburbia and into the real world and college is slowly but surely giving me the tools to do just that.

Nicole

Over the years I have realized how important college really is for your future and your future family's future. You have options when it comes to a caree. College also helps you to think for yourself and goes more indepth with specific topics that will help you succeed in everyday life. The best part about college is it isn't required, the entire process is completely and 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} up to you and you alone. Your future in in your own hands for the most part when it is regarding how well you do in a class. It's a beautiful thing.

Alison

It has been aweseome.

My college experience is really a trade experience, for Cosmetology. I have hopes though to attend school for Massage Therapy. I’ve gotten a lot of insight to the hair/beauty industry. It's shown me many opportunities that I didn’t know existed, and sharpened my own skills so I'd have a stronger chance at getting a position in this career field then before. My training "introduced" me to Massage Therapy and later found I have a strong passion for it. I can see myself doing it all day, every day, combining it with my Cosmetology license to eventually start a Salon/Spa business of my own. If my business doesn't get off the ground straight away, I still have two strong trades to fall back on. While at Cosmetology school, I found that "something good I wasn't searching for." I believe it called me. It's a great way to travel as well. Both trades will enable me to work aboard a cruise ship to relax and pamper individuals while expanding my horizons at the same time. It's a win-win situation. With this scholarship, I’d be one step closer to another opportunity.

That anybody cant better themselves if they try and put towards an effort.

Clark College has been a wonderful transition place. It has also been a very big challenge both scholastically and personally. I no longer sail through classes as I did in high school. Instead I work harder and study more to achieve similar grades to those received in high school. However because of that hard work, college has meant more to me and challenged me more that high school ever did. I still look forward to class and almost always leave feeling as though have expanded my knowledge of the topic of discussion. College may not be something that people desire to do so much as it is a need they must fulfill in order to get where they are going in life, however for me, it is a desire. I desire to go to school. I desire to learn more. I desire to take advantage of the knowledge of my professors in the hope that one day, I can have to chance to fulfill my dream and help others achieve theirs.

Ronisha

Thus far, my college experience has given me a profound appreciation for scholarly work. There is a demand for excellence which gives motivation to better your life spiritually, financially and academically. In addition, attending this particular University is special because there are thousands of people in their youth striving to be successful with a Biblical worldview.

When I lost my job in June and begin starting the journey through college to becoming a registered dietitian, I gained self-confidence, discipline and much happiness knowing that I was pursuing the right career goal for me. I enjoy studying science and have overcome shyness by communicating with professors and studying with my fellow students. College has taught me these skills and will prepare me for my future dealing with patients as a registered dietitian.

Emily

As a single-mother of two boys I am able to work during the day to support my family and to study online at night. Furthering my education is an important life-goal that was instilled in me and I am passing on to my children. Studying online has afforded me the option of setting my homework aside so that my family can eat dinner together, play games together, and I can tuck the boys into bed. If I were not able to study online, someone else would be in my home eating dinner with my children and putting them to bed. I would have to choose family time over education. Liberty University online has a great program that allows me to be a mother and a student!

College, at the undergraduate level at Liberty University, was a crucial stepping stone for my further education and career. Not only did I learn from classroom and scholastic study, but through personal interaction and campus involvement I was really strectched and enriched as an individual. By mixing online learning with on campus learning I was better able to find the time and rescources I needed to really learn my material. Not only do I feel that I have learned adequately on an undergraduate level, I feel ready and prepared for my future graduate and post graduate level studies.

What has been valuable is the furthering of my academic career. Finally after all these years of raising a son that I can finish my career and become a pastor to the world.

Kathleen

About ten years ago, I attended college for the first time to gain an Associates Degree that included emphasis in Information Technology. I had the amazing pleasure of attaining skills and abilities to become successful both professionally and personally. I've been able to additionally give back to the community by joining forces with professionals, including some of my previous instructors, to create a technology club to expose others to advances within the field through education programs. I find myself currently unemployed and eager to learn new skills within the health field and feel optimistic and confident that this new scholastic path will offer me the same rewards as before. Thank you.

Emmanuel

My college experience has helped me expand my knowledge and enter a fascinating subject in Chemistry. In addition, gives me the opportunity to achieve better employment opportunities in the future. This enriched my college experience and motivates me to continue.

Jeremy

It is valuable to all those who are in need for spiritual enrichment. Going to this school provides you with a healthy education along with a great religious atmosphere. Here you make friends for life and you do not even realize it. Teaching others how to become champions of Christ gives you something excellent to strive for.

Sarah

I have gotten a great deal from my college experience. I have learned a lot, some in the classroom and some not. I have no doubt that what I am learning in class will benefit me for the rest of my life. However, I think what I have learned outside the classroom will be even more beneficial. From my employer I learned that when your job is something you are passionate about, hard work is something to look forward to. From the girl sitting next to me in Freshman Seminar I learned that best friends come from the most unlikely of places. In the dining hall I discovered that not everything which claims to be edible is, in fact, what it purports to be. In my dorm room I found that mind-numbing study guides are less stressful when three roommates lament them together. I also learned that I could be responsible, and juggle everything on my plate, even without anyone watching over my shoulder. Most of all though, college has taught me that if I dedicate myself to my work and learn to roll with the punches, there’s no problem I can’t tackle.

Lavell

I would say that the only experience that I have gotten from college so far would be the what I have learned. It has opened my eyes up to how things really work. My reason for attending college is not just to gain wealth or money. That is just a bonus. But I want to educate myself. I think what has been valuable is metting people who want you to learn. Most Colleges have instuctors that don't really care if you pass or fale. Their there to collect that nice pay check. But when there is a teacher who goes the extra mile for a student so they fully understand what they are learing. That's what some of the the teachers at Grand Rapids Community College have brought to the table. That's why it has been valuable to attened Grand Rapids Community College.

Ashley

Since I've been at college, I've really experienced how it feels to be on your own. I had to do my own laundry and make my bed and we had to keep our room fairly neat. I feel like since I haven't been home I have been able to focus more on my studies without being interrupted every five seconds. It was so much easier doing homework at school and I could even tell that my grades improved. It's really hard to make friends when you go to a new school because everybody is in their clicks already, but at college it's different because there is a ton of other kids in the same boat as you feeling the same way. I had a very positive experience my first year and I am so excited for next year!

Deanna

My college experience has gotten out of an abusive situation and helped me to become a self respecting person because of it. It has also increased my feelings of worth and increased my awareness of situations in life that people face that help is needed that isn't available to everyone. It has deepened my understanding of the Bible and how to help people that conventional methods are unable to assist or completely comprehend. It has given me the skills to become a functioniing and contributing member of society and as a server to God and mankind in anyway I can. It is providing me the ability to help others and become self sufficent and remove myself from government aid such as Social Security, Foodstamps, Medicare and Medicaid. It is even showing others that it is never to late to improve or change areas in life that need changed for your betterment or any other reason that you may have for a change.

Andre

I have matured this last year from when I had been in high school. I know that I must now begin taking care of myself and holding myself accountable for the things I am obligated to do as well as the actions that I perform.

Carolyn

Coming to college has taught me so much more than I could ever learn in a classroom. Before I came to college, I did not know how to operate in this world or think for myself. Moving away from home and coming to school caused me grow into the adult I have now become. College taught me to think for myself and make decisions based on the facts instead of depending on what others tell me. It was in college that I discovered my love for people. There is so much beauty in the differences of personality that people have. Just like the color of a person?s eyes, hair, and skin come together to make a whole and beautiful person on the outside, so the traits that make up a person?s personality make them unique and wonderful on the inside. It was because of this appreciation for people?s personality that I realized the tragedy it is when one person?s personality is lost due to mental illness. I want to spend my life as a counselor caring for the treasures that are the people around. That is why I am pursuing a degree in clinical psychology.

Jennifer

This is the third college experience I?ve had and throughout the process of finding the right college, not one place has captured my attention more than Liberty University. The energy, education and activity that hover around this campus and beyond, instill a passion in me to strive for excellence through humility and perseverance. I am surrounded by people who are diversely goal oriented, who bring to the table new ideas with no regrets. Never in my life have I been more appreciated and encouraged to bring out the best in myself. The education I receive is flawless and the companionship I?ve gained is everlasting. I am blessed.

Russel

I haven't started yet but look forward to learning, since I have gotten a call to attend college to get into Ministry.

Brett

My major is Youth Ministry and being a Prayer Leader has helped me so much in preparing for a position of Youth Pastor in the future. preparing the once a week Bible study has given me the experience that i need and i am looking forward to going back for my Sophmore year and a second year Prayer Leader and serving once more and gaining even more experience and preparation.

Brett

The school i atttend has a different kind of support system than any other college i have ever seen. Each student is prayed for and supported by a Prayer Leader and each Prayer Leader is prayed for and supported by a Spiritual Life Director adn each Spiritual Life Director is prayed for and supported by the Resident Assitant and so on and so forth. i am a Prayer Leader at Liberty University and as a Prayer Leader i lead a small Bible study and being a Prayer Leader has given me experience that can be used toward my major which is Youth Ministries.

Tremayne

I've learned things that I would never have known before. Not only has my brain been academically inclined, but my soul spiritually has too. I came to this school with strong addictions to porn, I even had dealt with recent attempts of suicide. My father missed my graduation since he is in jail, and I almost forgot what love was like. My life was spiralling out of control, until Liberty University came into my life. This school has all kinds of groups to help you with any struggles, they even have prayer hotlines to pray for you everyday. So when people say, "what have you gotten out of your freshman year" I gladly respond, "I remember that I have a meaning in this world.."

Charisa

To me the most important thing I gained from my college experience was the value of sticking with something even if it is at times difficult. Learning new things can often be overwhelming, especially in a two year program where a broad spectrum of topics are covered in a short period of time, but things became clearer once I learned to take things only as they came. It is impossible to learn everything at once, and the most knowlege is gained by practice. I think that is one of the most valuable lessons I brought away with me upon graduation.

Kaitlin

I have gotten a lot out of my college experience so far. I have only attended one year at my community college, but I have realized that college is much more challenging than high school. I am being pushed so much more than what I was in high school and I love this challenge. The hard work actually makes me very happy and these upcoming eleven months will bring me even more challengiing work because not only will I be enrolled at my community college, but also at a vocational school to help further my education in the medical field. Going to college is a very valuable experience because everything that I have learned so far will help me in my career. The medical field is a very hard, but rewarding career field to get into and every course that I have taken in college has helped me be able to get closer to my goal of being an anesthesiologist.

Susan

I have gotten out of my college experience that no matter what I go through God will be there and that he will help me get through school.

Bethany

I have always been a very shy person, and always afraid to ask for help and here at Liberty I don't have that fear anymore. Because I now know and understand that no one is here to judge me, only God can do that. My experiences here have been a blessing and I would not change anything if I had to do anything over again. This school has helped me grow and become a stronger person, and a stronger Christian. I'm proud to attend Liberty University and I hope that if anyone else attends they will have the same kinds of experiences. I am motivated to get up in the morning and get to classes, and I don't know any other college that has ever offered me that kind of joy about education.

Matt

My experience at Orange Coast College has been a positive one. It has given me a feel for college life, and I have adapted quite well as a student. However, the time has come and I am ready to move on to an instituion that meets my desires even further. It has also given me a chance to mature, and now I better understand myself as a person. I have become accustomed to succeeding, and I expect nothing less of myself. To me, nothing should be valued more than a college education. No price tag to any college education is a waste of money. There is no more important investment in ones life than a college education. Furthermore, I understand my urge to seek new challanges as a reputable school. The new challenges I wish to seek are those in the Communications Department of University of California, Santa Barbara.

Charles

I have found college to be very maturing. It has been my responsibility to make sure my work is on time, I am on time, and I must pace myself to get projects finished. It is nothing like high school. None of the professors remind you that you only have so many days left to get your work in, and you can forget this deal of ten points off for every day it is late. If it is late in college it is 100 points off. What a bummer! I spent my high school years getting by on ten points off and still came out with a 3.5 gpa. Well, the real world has hit and now I have to get stuff done on time. I guess I am doing okay. I have not failed anything yet. I really do like college better than high school because when the teacher is finished for the day you can just leave class. This, of course, is blowing my parents minds. They have had a hard time adjusting to the fact that I do not have to stay the entire 90 minutes for my class.

Therese

Want to learn more about yourself than you ever could in professional counseling? Then college is for you. No, it is not the SAT's and ACT's that I am talking about. It is attending classes with such a diverse group of individuals than you could ever imagine. It is actually enjoying the study of topics you never thought you would enjoy. What have I learned about myself? Mostly, how little I already knew! But we have all heard that before. I have discovered that I am the same as others while being just as unique as ever. I have learned I can work at my passion and therefore never have to work a day in my life. College does that for you. Science, Math and English are only subject titles. But don't underestimate what these college classes have in store for you. I am forever changed. Studying about our Earth and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs will not leave me unchanged. This knowledge is with me forever. And discovering my passion for service to others has changed me forever. Thank you, professors, for your knowledge and dedication. It will not go wasted. Thank you.

Calli

The college experience offered at Liberty has been the best that anyone could ask for. Because it is a Christian University everyone is uplifting and encouraging. The professors and students all want the best for each other and we all want to grow closer to God in our journey through this school. It has been a positive experience for college because I have been to a few where everyone was only there for themselves and would not help, while here everyone goes out of their way to make sure you suceed in everything that you set out to accomplish.

Katelyn

So far my college experiance has been a blast. It has also been a test to my personhood. I have grown more in these past few months than i have in years. Having to stand on my own shows where one really is. It is not always easy to be at college, there is always alot of work to do, but I have my freinds. Before I went to college I was a true introvert. Im not the one to go out of my way to hang out with people and make freinds. In college it would be to easy to simply hide in my room and just sit doing whatever, but I do not simply sit around. There are so many things to do, and people to hang out with. I would not change my choices for anything. I love Liberty.
