Quinnipiac University Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

jen

yes

Christine

Most definitely, some of these stereotypes are true. But for the most part, the majority of the students are not like this.

Erica

Yeah, there are a bunch of easy girls here, and stuck up people, BUT you don't have to associate with those people. I don't consider myself one of them, and I have made really great friends here! Its all about choices. And yes, Quinnipiac has a fantastic health science department, along with many other great departments.

Caitlin

A lot of people stay on weekends, so I don't know where the commuter thing came from! The groups SPB and QUAD do a lot of weekend activities. Many people are the same (white, similar economic status, similar areas they came from) but the school is working to get diversity on campus. The problem with Yale/New Haven is that when those students see our students it is a majority of the time when they are taking our shuttle system to go to clubs in New Haven.

Keith

No, this place is no where near a "party school". Every student is the same, rich, stuck-up kids from Long Island.

Andrew

some what yes and no. There are rich white kids at every school, and there are hot girls at every school, also every school has its share of trouble makers so to say this is inaccurate is false but saying its 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} Quinnipiac is unfair as well.

Mike

Yes for the most part. I would not consider myself in this stereotypes but this is what I see on campus.

Jenna

Sadly, yes. The majority of kids that go to this school fall into the catagory of the "quinnipiac stereotype."

Mike

To an extent, but not entirely.

Brett

yea

Meghan

In part. Quinnipiac is somewhat of a party school, but there are plenty of people at Quinnipiac that are not and it is only a problem when your roommates fit the stereotype or someone is screaming into your window at 3am. However, you can chose to live in wellness housing where no substances are allowed and there are constant quiet hours for people you wish to be in a quiet atmosphere to study and sleep.

Victoria

I believe that at all colleges, there is always a group of students which fit the traditional stereotype of college students, but at Quinnipiac I have also met students who do not fit this profile. I have met students who are hardworking and dedicated to making a change, both at Quinnipiac and in their own communities.

Alexandra

Due to the fact that Quinnipiac is an expensive school, many students do come from wealthy families but also many don't.

Stephanie

No, 75{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students are on financial aid; there are parties at QU just like at every other school, but there aren't any extremely crazy or wild parties; I wouldn't compare QU and Yale, they are both very respectable universities with their similarities and differences, but every school is unique.

Katrina

Not really. People drink on campus as much as any other school and there are a great many of us who abstain altogether. Not everyone can afford our school with a "money is no object" attitude, most kids work at least one job part-time and a lot of us depend on loans and scholarships.

Laura

yes

Kelsey

For the majority of students these stereotypes are not right, I know from my personal experience that the diversity is growing on campus and I have met people from many different places and backgrounds. The majority of students are extremely giving and there are many charity projects always taking place on campus.

Zach

Not everyone is rich and stuck up. There are a lot of wealthier people that happen to go here, but mostly average income kids, with normal working parents. There are some stuck up people and hardcore Italians, but there are stereotyped people everywhere. Quinnipiac is to strict to be a raging party school, New Haven is popular and there is usually a small gathering somewhere on campus. There are a lot of people who should just dorm in the library but not everyone is die hard.

Jordan

yea

Mike

rich yes, stuck up a little ampethtic not really

Dana

Mostly. There are a few people who are down to earth and very friendly but many people are clicky and rude.

Amanda

Yes and no. There are many students at QU that are rich and spoiled, but there are also many that are not. I met many wonderful and down to earth people, but you have to look for them. Many students rely on their parents for spending money and virtually all bills.

Ryan

Yes, for the most part. What is overlooked is the growing number of Health Science students - dedicated, studious, focused, academic kids who are in college to focus on their courses as a priority.

Amanda

there are those types of people around but as a person from not a rich home i don't feel any discrimination from other students

Brittany

For the majority of the students yes, sadly they are.

Elizabeth

somewhat

Harper

Very

Alexandra

I find that the girl guy stereotypes are very true but you can find people not like that, but not nearly as many. The stereotype that our school is in the middle of nowhere is definitely not true. we are near new haven, and many bars, malls and highways that will get you where you want to go, no doubt that there is always something to do around here. About the school spirit... sure we go to hockey games and baseball games, but its not as crazy peppy as you think. As far as the clothing stereo type, OH yeah, its rare to see someone without a northface fleece or back pack, or a girl without uggs or ripped abercrombie jeans, a guy without a baseball cap... but luckily there are not really any popped collars, i think that phase is long gone.

Caitlin

Yes.

Adam

Yes and no. I don't think Quinnipiac is as Apathetic as it is made out to be, but yes Quinnipiac is predominately white and it seems that everyone is the same, but you just need to look deeper to see the real side to people.

becky

The majority of the kids have money, but it isn't an uncomfortable situation. Most kids where Abercrombie uggs and flip flops. A lot of people are also from MA.

Sarah

Not exactly. While there are a decent number of students who fit this stereotype, some do not.

Lisa

Not exactly. QU is a predominantly white school, but it's a friendly campus. A lot of kids do dress the same (Abercrombie, American Eagle, Hollister, etc.) though. As far as the party school stereotype goes, a lot of Quinnipiac students do party, but it's not everyone, and they make sure to keep that separate from their schoolwork.

Ryan

For the most part yes, but not everyone here is a millionaire. And some girls are stuck up.

Patrick

The girls here are fun to be around, and there are definetly some girls here that are more promiscuous that others. Some of us don't see the big picture in life, but our campus is growing into a more universal place to be. We seem to all be all white rich kids at first, and though we do have a large population of that, we have normal people, just like you and me too.

Brette

No. There is a portion of these students that fit the stereotype but there are a large amount that do not.

Sarah

not entirely

Ryan

Not entirely.

Stephanie

Yes, for the most part

Kristen

While the majority of students are white and from well-off families, there is some diversity throughout the campus and everyone is really nice.

Tate

Yes. Very much so.

KC

for the most part

Mel

No, more than 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the school is here on scholarship and most of us are nice.

Katie

for half of the student body but the other half not at all

Vanessa

YES!

Jamie

To some extent, most students do come from wealthy backgrounds, however, there are upper middle class students here. Students do go out on the weekends and there are always many parties going on, but I thought that the partying would be much more on campus. Most parties and drinking occur off campus or in New Haven.

Sara

It's true some people look like they just jumped out from behind the glass at one of those stores, but not everyone is like that. Some of us are still wearing our Gap jeans from 3 years ago and enjoy a good bargain at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. And yes, some of the students are wealthy, but I know a heck of a lot more kids who are getting by on financial aid rather than mom and dad's money.

Ali

Somewhat

Tara

Somewhat - but there are a large handful of students that do not fit the stereotype.

Jamie

yes, so many people dress and act the same
