Quinnipiac University Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Tara

I feel that one of the biggest things we have to tackle on campus, and one of the most underrated things, is the meal plan. we simply do not get enough bang for our buck. all of the food is too expensive and our meal plan is not conducive to eating 3 meals a day every day for an entire semester

Alexa

it's an amazing school because it feels smaller than it really it. I love the campus because it's gorgeous and everything is close together. I think it's a perfect size because you do not feel like an just a number and also you still see people everyday that you have never seen before.

Royce

Our school is the perfect size. I feel i have grown to know and trust my professors and they show a compassion for their teaching. This school offers many opportunities and i am proud to be a student here.

Jess

QU is a great school academically. It is however accepting too many new students and the current students suffer with inadequate housing.

Amanda

I think quinnipiac is really great except for their disciplinary board. They are very tough on students without knowing all the facts and give out ridiculous punishments that are unwarranted. They also have a way of trying to hide any problems that occur on campus even going so far as to hide them from the student population.

Alesha

Academically, Quinnipiac is very good. I believe we have a great health science curriculum. Socially, I think there are not enough males for the amount of females that are on campus. I think a lot of the issues that occur on campus are ignored or kept secret. I have experienced some very difficult times throughout my two year duration at Quinnipiac and not one person working at this school has acknowledged these hard times. The lottery system for housing puts a lot of unnecessary stress on the students while they can be focusing on their academics. During my freshman year I did not get a lottery number at all which put a lot of stress on me on top of all of my school work. I was also sexually assaulted during May Weekend last year and since then not one faculty member of this school has made an effort to contact me and to see how I am handling everything. I also do not think that Quinnipiac has a lot of school spirit which may be because of the size of the school but because of this lack of spirit, it makes the school a lot less fun to be attending. I may be very bitter towards the school because of my previous experiences but I personally would not recommend this school to anyone and I think that is sad.

jessica

Quinnipiac is a growing community that allows students to have some amazing opportunities during their college years. The education that is received through the university is one of the best and is what attracts many people to the campus. However it is the organizations and leadership opportunities that keep the people here.

Nicole

I feel that the best thing about Quinnipiac is the academics. One thing I would change is making there be more activites a little closer to campus.I feel the size of the school is just right. I spend most of my time in my dorm, either in the study lounge or friend's rooms. I feel the biggest recent controversy has been the issue with the newspaper and the administration's reaction to it. The most frequent student complianst have been about cafeteria money, caf hours, along with the housing lottery problems and scheduling.

maddie

i love the scenery of quinnipiac. i love teh quad, and the library. everyone at quinnipiac in the health science major is extemely motivated and we all try really hard

Tracy

The best thing about QU is the beautiful campus and the small population so you get to feel comfortable around campus. Qu is small enough that you feel at home but big enough so you meet new people everyday. One thing i would change is more interaction between each school (school of health science, school of buisness, etc.) On the weekends a lot of people do go into New Haven because there are a lot of things to do, but it is possible to stay on campus and have fun. Some negative aspects of QU are the prices, some lack of involvment on behalf of the students, and sometimes its hard to deal with security, registration, res life or other staff unless you get your parents to call. Overall, i think QU is a great place to come if you are looking for a smaller school in a quiet area that is visually pleasing but you still have access to a major city within 10 minutes.

Jo

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the campus, it is one of the prettiest in the Northern region it even beats Yale University's. If I could change on thing about QU it would be the diversity in all aspects of the campus. QU is a medium sized school not too big to get lost in and not too small you feel as if there is nothing to do. Quinnipiac's administration tries its best to help the student body 95{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the time they are sucessful and the other 5{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} the students begin to voice their opinions about what the administration has failed to do. I will always remember the experiences I have at QU because it has helped me become the person that I am and has challenged everything I thought was right or how things should be.

Jess

its nice outside

Blake

I love the atmosphere of Quinnipiac University. On a nice day it is just great to see everyone around the quad enjoying life. It is comforting and welcoming.

Kellie

Poor parking situation, poor housing system. All undergraduates should have the opportunity to live on campus for a full four years, that aspect is such a huge component of the college life. Requiring so many student to life off campus doesn't help campus spirit and unity. Beautiful setting, well-kept grounds.

lauren

quinnipiac is kind of off the radar. i mean not many people know where the school is or what we are about. most people know that we do political polls, but they dont know much else.

Cody

I would have better parking available for students. I would also have less students living dorm rooms. I think the class sizes are good. When I tell people I go to Quinnipiac, one they normally mispronounce it and then the second thing is they have heard of our polls. Now that I live off campus, I spend most of my time at my apt but when I lived on campus, I was on campus most of the time. I think Hamden is a college problem in the sense that you have all things any college student could need on one street and providing shuttles to other locations in order to meet their needs, e.g. the movies or taraget. The biggest constroversy on campus was the racial slurs written on the dorm doors. Yes, I think Quinnipiac as school pride, but we need to sport female sports better. I would say the unusal thing about Quinnipiac is that we are right across from a state park, I don't think most college campus have that. An experience I will always remember is joining Phi Sig, and getting my little, a girl who becoming friends and sisters with has made my college experience so much better. Most frequent complaints is too many kids in a dorm room, no parking, and maybe later hours to get food on campus.

Drew

the best thing about quinnipiac is the campus. if i had to change anything i would add more parking lots to the campus so that students can park on campus.

Wally

there has been racial problems .. racial slurs written which just isnt cool. def needs more diversity.people say that we dont care about anything, however thats not true. look at the 112,000 we just raised at relay for life. town life is ok around here. there are good bars and its always fun to go into new haven.

lauren

Most people don't know where or what Quinnipiac is

morgan

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the small classes with individual attention. I would change the fact that its in my hometown. Quinnipiac is way too expensive. A lot of school pride when it comes to sports, especially hockey.

Danielle

Everything about this school was what I wanted. It's the perfect size, not too small or too big. The professors are very understanding for the most part and want you to do well. The class size is small and you can get individual attention. Every one of my professors knows my name. I love the Masters in Teaching program and the idea of getting my masters in 5 1/2 years. Quinnipiac has great specialized programs that really drag you in if it's what you want to do. One thing I would change is the cafeteria and it's hours. The food isn't bad at all but the hours aren't so great and it's too crowded. But we are working on that.

Erica

Quinnipiac is a wonderful school which offers the students everything they need. They have very competative programs.

Jenna

I love Quinnipiac's campus. If I could change one thing, maybe I would make it a little big larger. I would say that getting involved is one of the things that has changed my experience here at Quinnipiac drastically. If you dont get involved your missing out!!

Samantha

I like the closeness of the campus. I like seeing people that I know when I walk to classes. I spend a lot of my time with my friends. Hamden is a very cute town. It isn't a college town but it does provide everything that you would need while at school. I do wish that we had more school spirit.

Alex

I think the quinnipiac program for teaching is great, I think that the teachers and the whole class situation is awful. The teachers mostly part time don't really like kids and so many of the reviews on qu.com are negative.

Danielle

-good school size -horrible cafeteria food -beautiful campus and view of sleeping giant mountain -most of the dorms are really nice -lots of pride when it comes to our men's hockey team

Ashley

I think the best thing about this school is that it is the right size, and we have a beautiful campus.

Jess

Perfect size, too many girls, the classes arent bad, dining halls are okay, dorms are nice, new haven is close by and easy to get to and going into new haven is alot of fun, parties in freshman dorms happen and usually get written up, amazing campus - esp in the spring - its beautiful

Jillian

Quinnipiac, although a small school, the campus feels big. It has a big campus feel, but you recognize faces as you walk down dorm road.

alyssa

the best thing about qu is the atmosphere and how nice it looks. one thing i would change is the way they do their housing, they shouldnt accept as many students as they do if they cant provide housing for them. the size of the school is the main reason i came here, i love how the classes are no larger then 30 and i see familiar faces everywhere i go. when i say i go to qu they are impressed and say wow thats a good school or they have no idea where i go. qu's administration is pleasent and most want to see the students succeed, but they do make you work for it. biggest recent controversy is "may weekend" they think by canceling may weekend they are going to stop kids from drinking, which is not going to happen thats just going to make them rebel more. there can be more school pride, sga does a good job at promoting it tho. one experience from qu ill alwyas remember is that i met my best friends here and that alpha chi omega made my college experience wat it is today.

Taylor

The campus is beautiful, i would change the diversity, i think the size is just right not too big, not too small. I only go to Hamden for groceries and to go out to eat. The administration can be a little bit unsmooth at times, the rooming lottery is a horrible mess and the cafe times are bad. There is alot of school pride at the hockey games.

Courtney

I would say this school is just about the right size for me personally. It has a beautiful campus which is a main part of its appeal. I feel that for the most part people believe it is a pretty competitive university and the people who attend it are smart. There is not much diversity on this campus although the administration is attempting to change that.

Colleen

the school is just right. people are impressed when i tell them that i go to QU. they know its a good school and very pretty. I spend most of my time in my dorm with my friends. The biggest controversy on campus i think was whether or not our campus was empathetic or not.

kelly

the food is pretty weak, i would change that, its a small-med size school, but its a good size for me, most people love qu, but say it is expensive, between 10 and 15 of my high school graduating class come every year, its has good nearby colleges, its got great lawn, its not really a college town but has a great city with alot of bars nearby, big controversy over the school cancelling may weekend for the first time this year, which i think is bs because i dont think the whole school shud suffer because a couple kids get themselves hurt or in trouble, stuff liek that happens all the time, let us have our fun, our administration is pretty good, getting classes sucks sometimes, but the resistration isnt too bad, the housing lottery sucks right now, and usually sucks, most people get screwed, the car parking lot sucks too, you have to take a shuttle to get your car, but besides those few problems i love my school and i love most of the people here, it s good group of well rounded people that arent snobs, a lot of the girls here dress pretty slutty, b ut alot of the girls here can get away with it, there are so many wonderful experinces i have here, oh yeah that kinda tough with security which is both good and bad, and there not too rough on alcohol theres ways around it, but you have to be really careful about doin any drugs

Melissa

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the gorgeous campus and the friends I've found here. I'd change the housing lottery, it's one of the most complained about topics. People generally think of QU as a 'good school' when I mention I go there. I know theres a lot of controversy surrounding the fact that May Weekend was taken away. Overall its a really good place to be, my friends and I hike a lot, and overall theres a lot to do here and New Haven.

Molly

Quinnipiac has a beautiful campus. It is the right size, not too big and not too small. I spend most of my time in my room, in the cafe, or in the library. There is definitely alot of school pride and it shows at all the sports games.

Ashley

I love the community feeling of Quinnipiac. The classes are small enough to get an actual education, you meet and become better friends with many peopl ein the community, and professors have the ability to work with you one on one.

Kat

The best thing about Quinnipiac are their networking opportunities. There are so many internships, jobs, and etc. that are available through this school. The school population is growing so it is getting bigger as the years pass by. The campus is beautiful and it's a wonderful place in the spring. The only problem with this school is that it is private and you cannot get away with as much and voicing you opinion is hard when you need to reach the school administration.

Shawn

Quinnipiac is an over sized leech that doesn't really give a shit about the students. the president is over paid and has plans for the future. however what good does the future do for the students of the present. The parking situation sucks, and we are no longer to park in north lot on the weekend. Freshman of this year have to live off campus next year, guess QU should add an asterisk to the saying, we guarantee student housing the first 3 years. Quinnipiac is still rather unknown but is slowing getting more publicity. Quinnipiac wants to become more diverse but the student body doesnt want that. why do you think people write racial slurs on the wall. i would be willing to be many people come here because of the low minority numbers.

Stephanie

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the campus atmosphere. Not only is it gorgeous but the people are genuinely friendly and inviting. One thing that I would change is that we are sort of required to get a dell latitude computer which sucks. Sometimes i would consider the school too small, gossip wise, but for me it is just right. Many people have never heard of Quinnipiac, others recognize it for the polls. I spend most of my time in the dorms while i'm on campus. It is not a college town at all (hamden). Quinnpiac's administration sucks, especially since they aren't student friendly and make choices for their gain. The biggest recent controversy was the lack of "may weekend" or the changes to orientation. There are relative amounts of school pride. Quinnipiac is beautiful and that is unusual in itself. I'll always remember joining my sorority, or being an orientation leader. The lack of may weekend, the caf food, and the computers.

Chris

I love Quinnipiac and the only thing I would really change is the cost of everything on campus and for this college in general.

Nikki

The best thing about Quinnipiac is the size, or at least for me. I love that I can walk down dorm road and see ten people I know without feeling lost. The campus is centered, so it's not scattered all over Hamden. Most people can't pronounce Quinnipiac so that gets annoying or they just have never heard of it. Most of my time is spent in the library studying because of my major. I think the administration is good for the most part, yet many professors are teaching who should not be. There isn't a ton of school pride and I'm not really sure why, but there are certain times when pride for our school is most noted.

Alexa

Most people have never heard of Quinnipiac. I found out about it at a college fair and visited with a friend. I loved the campus, I thought it was beautiful. I didnt want to go to a large university so I thought the relative size of the school for me was perfect. I think well rounded, genuine people attend this school and arent just going to school because their parents want them to. Alot of students on this campus truely want to make a difference and are well on their way. I spend most of my time on campus and when I go out, I go out into New Haven where the "college" bar scene is. I think that there is alot of school pride and pride in the organizations people join. The most frequent student complaints are about the food, which could use a little improvement, but its college what do you expect. A few incidents have occurred since I have been at Quinnipiac, two deaths of students that I knew, and racial slurrs written on the walls. I feel that the school doesnt embrace and try to fix these problems. You cant just expect it to go away with an email.

kristen

Overall, I love Quinnipiac. It has a beautiful campus, lots of great students and faculty, and there's always something to do. Administration and security are a bit extreme, but they're nothing that you can't avoid. What I really love is that most students don't go home for the weekends--instead, they stay on campus, which is great for me because I love when it seems like everyone is still here and ready to socialize and have a good time. What's more, at this time of year, the quad is great, and I love when you see lots of students laying out in the warm sun.

Kelly

The best thing about QU is it's gorgeous and safe campus. I would change how cheap the school is towards its students. Many of us are health science majors and are required to dress in a certain way and we have to pay for the clothing. Books and credits cost enough and to make us shell out more money is just rediculous. We are what makes this school what it is, you would think that the school could do the small things and provide us with what we need to do well. When i tell people I go to Quinnipiac, they generally give me a look "what did you say?" and I explain where the school is and then they always know someone who knows someone who goes or went here. The town of hamden is definately a college town, but when school isn't in session there is still plenty to do here. The administration is ridiculous on some of their rules and they should check where their priorities are. Recently the biggest controversy is over our "may weekend" or "maybe weekend" as many people are calling it on campus. There is some school pride, but I think that if we had a football team there would be way more emphasis on it. Something unusual about our campus, is that we live next to a state park. I will always remember the gorgeous campus and Sleeping Giant Mountain, as well as the gorgeous TD Banknorth Center that was just built; and of course, the people that I have met here. Most frequent complaints from students are how expensive the food is, we only have a certain amount of money to spend and its never enough for the guys, and they need a wider variety of what they offer; as well as more hours that the caf is open. There are also never enough spaces in the library.

Sarah

QU, for me, is the perfect size but it is not diverse enough. There is a lot of racial tension and almost no diversity on campus which is very frustrating.

MacKenzie

Quinnipiac is a beautiful college with a lot of life time opportunities. If you come in with a good mind set and an open attitude you could experience a lot of great things and meet great people along the way. The teachers are all fantastic and helpful, and the atmosphere is pretty excepting. Athletics are always fun to watch because the school spirit is insane!!

Stephen

Night life is huge at Quinnipiac, students often like to go into New Haven with friends on thrusday's through the weekend. Everyone works very hard. One thing i would change is the dorm lottery system. It is very unfair.

Alyssa

The best thing about Quinnipiac is its size and its student teacher ratio. The faculty here is great and it is easy the establish a relationship with your professor. You are not just a number here, you are a person and you matter. If I had to change one thing about QU it would be tuition (obviously).

Nicole

I believe that Quinnipiac University is the perfect campus. It isn't too big, yet it is not too small. There is a perfect amount of student in our classes and the environment is beautiful. It sits across the street from the great sleeping giant mountain and offers students with a fun activity.
