The campus is very beautiful, especially when the cherry flower is booming! I like their buildings and a lot of libraries. The location is very good which is very convenient to a lot of restaurant, shops, etc. It's not too far away from Seattle downtown, and close to Amazon corp and many other big companies, as well as convenient to the Sea-tac airport.

The University of Washington is a giant community filled with many people from different backgrounds. The dorms are very well kept and has a very welcoming community. The food is decent, but when it is not breakfast, lunch, or dinner hours, there is pretty much only pizza unless you go out on the Ave or somewhere else. Overall, the community is great and fun.

Excellent campus and student opportunities. The academics are well versed and the students are very helpful. I would expect them to continue this trend. The University does charge unnecessary fees and some are outrageous- $200 per quarter for parking.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I've known that the University of Washington was where I belonged, ever since the 8th grade. It was the best college in my state, and it was set against the backdrop of my favorite city. So many college towns are located in rural areas and small communities, but I was drawn to the never-ending events and bright lights of Seattle. My first year of college had its inevitable ups and downs, but as I found my footing I tried to appreciate every moment that I was learning. I think the University excels at a lot of things; they value the opinions of students, and the campus is so large that it is easy to find a niche that speaks to you. The largest problem I’ve seen at UW is one that many large campuses face. They place a lot of energy, time, and money into their STEM programs, and I believe they should give more attention to the arts and humanities. I realize this is a hard task, especially from all the donations given by the Gates Foundation and illustrious companies like Amazon and Boeing. But the constant presence of these companies on campus creates an atmosphere where these are the only jobs that matter. We need to show students that the world can’t only be made up of engineers and doctors. The need for artists and therapists is just as significant.

The University of Washington is a fantastic school that excels in the STEM field. There are so many interesting classes to take and opportunities abound for whatever interests. The school is quite large and it can be quite a culture shock. I'd recommend finding a group that you can easily connect and try to maintain a strong relationship with that group.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The University of Washington has a gorgeous campus- there is a section full of cherry blossoms that blooms every year and it is very photogenic! But even without cherry blossoms, the UW campus is photogenic anytime! It is considered an public Ivy-league so the classes are quite hard- on top of that, students are very competitive. It is 40% Asian (most are international students). There are restaurants within walking distance on the Ave (what we call the street where all the restaurants are located), but it is quite a walk depending on which restaurants you go to ( Starbucks is really close, but the bubble tea stores are located a bit further down the road. There is a Pho store if you are willing to walk a bit further and I heart there is a really nice Lebanese store). The professors, TAs, and community are pretty nice. Students don't talk to other students unless they know them and it is overcast a lot of the time so it can feel gloomy sometimes. The perk is you focus more on studying though! Speaking of which, the campus has beautiful (ancient-looking) libraries to study in and occassionally have free stuff in the Quad. They also have nice student benefits- free unlimited bus rides and access to the IMA (the gym), which is the part I enjoy the most. All in all, I am happy I chose to go to the UW!

It is a very large school with many opportunities. The professors are willing to help but you must make an active effort to speak to them. There are many study resources available that can help you if you are struggling in any classes. Additionally, the many libraries are useful.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I was very hesitant coming to UW, because it was such a big campus with such a prominent reputation. I feared that it would be overwhelming and easy to get lost in. In reality, UW has plenty of resources that make it easy for someone to find their community. There are so many opportunities for involvement on campus, that you'll be sure to find a group that works for you. While it is a big school, UW has so much to offer. There are so many interesting classes to take and ways to get involved in research, extracurricular activities, and so much more. I love attending UW and I wouldn't trade my Husky experience for the world.
