The school has a lot of potential. They need to expand housing and the parking on campus because there really isn't enough, and living in Boca to rent an apartment or get a house is expensive. There also needs to be more opportunity on campus for students to enjoy themselves as well as more campus jobs. I talk to many students who live on campus but weren't able to get a job on campus because of limited availability, and they don't have a car or anyway to get to a job outside of campus. There also needs to be more campus life because the majority of students either leave campus when classes are done, or they go to the library which is usually super crowded and you have to come early to actually get somewhere to sit and relax or study. Plus, the fifth floor of the library is really the only floor you can actually talk on. There needs to be more indoor areas for students to relax and study because this 90 degree heat is not fun for anybody, we can't all just lay outside in the lawn, or sit on the floor of a building outside a classroom. They should also have more transportation resources for students who don't have cars, such as buses to places that most people our age like going to, such as the movies, beach, and mall which are all within 5-7 minutes distance from the university. If there were these resources on campus I really think it would be beneficial for the university to bring in more students. With Boca Raton not being a college town, campus is really the only place you can find other college students and a "college scene", even though there isn't a strong one. They also need to expand the gym facility because even though it is a nice facility, it is a shack compared to those of other universities who have the same student body size as us, and there is not a variety of machines and the workout areas are tight and space limited, making it hard to work out comfortably and efficiently. In terms of academics, the professors are usually nice and willing to help you if you're struggling, but with larger classes this tends to be more of a difficulty. We do have a tutoring center but there aren't enough tutors especially for the larger subjects so there definitely needs to be different resources that need to be put in place for tutoring for harder subjects other than actual people since there is a lack thereof. Usually tutoring groups for larger classes tends to be 20-30 people which is basically a normal sized classroom, in which there is still a difficulty to learn. Overall though the school is better off than most schools and has a great amount of diversity and range in students that you can find on campus, so even if you don't find any friends in your major, there is a plethora of clubs and organizations where you can find your clan. Boca is a nice area and really safe, I never feel threatened on campus by anyone and there are call boxes everywhere plus campus police always roaming so if you need anything you're covered.

I believe that Florida Atlantic University has plenty of opportunities for just about anybody in regards to academics, scholarships, internships, and more. However, I do think that campus housing is way too expensive as well as off-campus housing.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Florida Atlantic University is overall a very good school. The academics are improving each year, in the sociology department the professors are extremely qualified and accessible. My love and feeling of comfort at this school were actually the two biggest factors in my choice to pursue a Master's degree here. Class sizes vary, depending on your major and the level of the class. Entry level classes (Gen Ed) and those in popular majors like business and nursing will have larger class sizes, but my upper division sociology classes and all of the art classes I've taken have had 24 students at the most.

The year that I have attended the FAU Boca Raton campus, I have experienced and been apart of opportunities that have been both positive and negative. I have had the privilege of taking part in a research opportunity in a primate lab looking at animal behavior and was given exposure to competitive proposal writing, poster presentations, and working on my own project. In addition, I took the opportunity advertised by FAU to become a manatee master at Manatee Lagoon and improve my skills in working in a classroom setting as well as general public speaking. For my classes, FAU offers free tutoring for courses as well as help in my essay writing. Some classes offer supplemental instruction which has helped some of the time. Sadly, I have noticed the school lacking in certain areas that desperately need improvement. The one to be mentioned first should be the most prioritized. FAU does a poor job in accommodating students with disabilities. I found many problem areas when working for the disabilities department. While the staff and students who worked for the department were caring of special needs students, they were limited in ways to help students that were struggling. In the office space itself, students with physical disabilities were having to work with carpets that were consistently bubbling up from the floor make it challenging for students who were visually impaired and/or needed a wheelchair. Furniture provided to the students in classrooms were usually dangerous to use since they were falling apart most of the time. Testing rooms for students requiring extra time away from the class room were to small and were constantly at full capacity. Other departments were also unaware of the departments presence and at some points I would hear other staff from other department tell students that they did not accommodate students with disabilities, this is against the law. Another issue I had with FAU was the lack of quiet study space. Library quiet zones were never enforced. Study rooms are provided to the students but in limited quantities and the rooms were consistently filthy. The entire library with the exception of the first floor is in desperate need of a cleaning and refurbishment even the floors that have been refurbished have bathrooms that smell like they are not cleaned and the carpets and books have bugs and mold. Other than the library there really isnt any areas to study, the owl center next to the library is in a very limited space that gets full quickly. I also study in the the business building and nursing building in space that reaches capacity quickly. The seating in the outdoors study areas are also in limited quantity and the school just provides concrete tables and benches that would make it uncomfortable to sit down for long periods of time. This is far less than what other university provide for studying areas. The student life is also almost non-existent with clubs given limited accommodations and the school providing almost nothing for students to enjoy as far as a social life is concerned. For students in the LGBTQ+ community, there is next to nothing the school offers. I most recently had to drive to the Davie campus to print out my poster for a conference I wanted to present at for my research. The Boca campus offered free printed but the poster file had to be given a full 5 days in advance, which I think is absurd.

When I visited Florida Atlantic, I immediately felt a sense of home. This was surprising considering I live in central New Hampshire. The facilities at this school were very impressive and I am super excited to attend there in the fall of 2019. The workout facilities and pool were very nice. There are so many opportunities at this school and I am excited to take part in as many as I can.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

This is one of the best universities that I have heard of in the State of Florida. They have great amenities for the students, well-scheduled classes, flexible programs, and so much more going on! Very proactive student bodies and clubs to join, plus they offer great services tot the students and even have international programs for students coming abroad. Florida Atlantic University is, without a doubt, one of the hidden gems of Florida.

FAU has variety of activities to be involved in from recreation to academics. The vibe and atmosphere at FAU is very welcoming and encouraging. I love that the campus has a huge recreational center for those of use who use exercising to keep mental sanity. There's no reason why anyone shouldn't succeed at FAU, they have a wonderful culture, a welcoming atmosphere and an encouraging spirit!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Heavily a commuter/ continuing ed school, really its just a big community college. Very little to do, little to no involvement. Food and rec facilities are awful. Some great teachers, but some are also very rude and just make excuses that they cant do better due to lacks of funding which is malarkey. I can only recommend this school if you commute. Graduate school student community, living options they claim to have are nonexistent, everyone comes at 8 and leaves at 5, like high school. Geology grad classes are a joke, along with most of the department, you can do coursework for like 4 hrs a week and probably get or come darn close to a 4.0. If you're considering this school, I'd opt. for community college. Same experience, maybe even more challenging at at least 1/3 the price.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Florida Atlantic University was my very last choice out of the seven colleges I applied for, yet I still ended up going there. However, I don't regret going there, not one bit. It has a beautiful campus, a copious amount of extracurriculars, a very nice stadium, and such a family oriented community. It's only my first year there, so there isn't much to complain about, other than the cafe's food, which in my personal opinion is the least attractive thing about such an amazing campus.
