University of Central Florida Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Jared

The financial aid rewards are not enough to support myself.

Marlene

There is no worst thing about my school. I don't have any problems in the college that I am attending.

kristin

I would say that the worst thing about my school is that we are the third largest university in the US, and you can definitely notice the high volume of students. This results in a slimer chance of being awarded scholarships through the school.

Jacqueline

This is my first semester attending the University of Central Florida. I haven't encountered any problems thus far. I transferred from Valencia Community College after completing my AA degree and the transition has gone very smoothly. I have no complaints.

Sarah

The size, we are one of the largest universities in the nation. Sometimes the classrooms are so packed that students have to stand in order to listen to the lecture. This also becomes a problem with the availablity of books to students, the on-campus bookstore runs out so quickly.

Ramon

It is defintiely parking.

Stephanie

The parking. There are over 50,000 students here, and only 12,000 parking spaces.

Alexis

i wi sh that the regiolal campus that i am going to attend would have more program choices

Elsie

The worst thing about UCF is the bookstore because the textbooks are over-priced and it takes more effort to find deals outside of campus. It would be easier if they catered to the students' budget. Even the university apparel is too expensive to buy and students have to resort to going to Target or a third party distributer to fit their needs.

Blanca

Parking at UCF has to be the worst thing ever! You have to arrive at least two hours before class to get a remotely good parking spot, not to mention you have to stalk people to get to their car for their spot, and you're always late because you can never find a parking spot.

Shanir

So far, I haven't encountered any negative qualities about UCF.

Vicky

Parking. The traffic.

Patrick

As an undergraduate some classes can be extremely large, making interactive class discussions difficult and one on one interaction and support from your instructor or professor virtually non-existant. This is the price one pays for attending a large and quickly expanding university, and the high ratio of commuters also makes parking tricky, but in the end it's worth it.

Jasmin

Because it is so big, it is hard to make friends. For me, having friends is very important because I get bored easily and like for people to entertain me.

Sarah

Probably that because of the economy UCF is threatened with closing some courses and budgets are being affected. There are immense amounts of diversity within UCF and that includes the majors one might choose. Therefore, it is upsetting to see a course or two dissapear even if it doesn't affect you personally, you know it has affected others.

Jace

The only thing that I can complain about with my school is the mail service. They are extrordinarily slow when it comes to sending out and receiving mail. But other then that, there are no other complaints about the University of Central Florida.

Anthony

A lot of times the professors are overloaded with their own research agenda's and don't focus enough on what they are doing in the classroom. Very seldom have I had a professor in my college career that seemed like he/she really enjoyed teaching. Also many times I have had foreign professors who are very hard to understand and write illegibly, making it hard to really grasp what's going on in the classroom.

Heidi

This has to again be the parking issue at the school.

Zev

The worst thing about my school would have to be the parking. It is very crowded and sometimes it is very hard to find a parking spot.

Michael

The worst thing about UCF is the amount of students that attend the school. This is because there is so many students in each class which does not allow the students to get close to the teachers.

Danielle

It is overpopulated.

Ebony

They do not offer a good variety of scholarships, and their finacial aid office is not very helpful.

Natalie

It's too big.

Rita

I feel the worst thing about my school is that there aren't enough things open twenty four hours or even late into the night such as coffee shops and restaurants. In fact there is nothing open twenty hours on my campus!

Marissa

Personally, I would say the worst thing about the University of Central Florida is the amount of students enrolled at the college. This provides a less intimate learning environment and, contrary to my original belief, makes it harder to meet people on campus. When you are going to school with 50,000 other students it is easy to end up as just another face in the crowd of students of a lecture hall or library. It is not unusual to feel alone when advisors and tutors are helping hundreds of students at a time.

Shamira

The worst thing about my school would have to be parking. Depending on the time of day your classes are at, parking is very hard to find.

David

Not so much the school, but the kids attending. They aren't focused on enough on learning.

John

The worst thing about my school are the long lines for lunch. There really is nothing bad to say about my school.

Trent

I can't really say anything negative about my experience at UCF. Sometime the sheer size of the University is an inconvenience, but the staff and faculty do try and make the processes as easy as possible.

Daniel

I have completed two years at the local Community College ( Valencia Community College) and will be attending UCF for the Spring semester. I could say that Valencia College was a great experience and never had a lot problems, as a freshman to finishing as a sophmore. Really can't say I found anything bad, although the transition from Valencia College to UCF was not as smooth as the advisors said in the beginning of the year. I say this because Valencia held my transcripts to long to send electronically, and UCF took long to process them.

Mary

The worst thing about UCF is the availability of courses to students. Many classes fill up before students can enroll in them, classes that students require to graduate, therefore delaying anticipated graduation dates by a semester or a year.

Joanne

Because I attend the regional campus all of the classes I would like to take are not always available. I have to settle for the day and time they have set or take online classes and those are another mission to get enrolled in.

Amanda

There are alot of students, professors may not know you personally. Or be able to help you on a personal level.

Michael

The worst thing I can think about my school would be that it is very big and requires a lot of traveling. Because I do not own a car, I have to use my bike as my mode of transportation. This isn't a big complaint, but sometimes when having classes with small gaps in between makes it is hard to get to all classes on time. However, I realize that our school being so big is inevitable because of progression and expansion, so it is not a big deal.

Chelsea

I think the class sizes are too large for a favorable learning environment. These large class sizes reflect in unavailability amongst the professors as well as lack of abstract discussions in the classroom. Many of the liberal arts classes are smaller but the rigorous science classes can have as many as 600 students which I believe is detrimental to each and every student's performance- in many different ways.

Joshua

The worst thing about my school would be the recruitment program. Being one of the largest schools in the nation, it is undoubtably necessary to have a good program to recruit outstanding athletes. Academics and sports go hand in hand as both bring publicity to the school. A new recruitment program could possibly, if exercised properly, bring big name athletes to the school thus, encouraging others to follow in their footsteps.

Deborah

The worst thing about my school is parking at the main campus. You have to arrive at least an hour prior to class to find a spot and it costs a fortune for a parking pass!

Caroline

There needs to be a more united campus.

Hussain

To be honest the worst thing at the University of Central Florida is the parking. It is understandable we have a problem since we have well over 52,000 students, but something needs to be done about it.

Jarrod

The undergraduate population repulsed me. Many of them seemed like they shouldn't be there.

Lauren

My school is in Orlando, which is not very pedestrian friendly; on campus there is plety of room to ride bikes, skateboards, walk, etc, but off-campus is not safe without a car.

Isabella

I would say parking at the Main Campus is very hectic and takes up a lot of time. I am taking classes at a Regional Campus to avoid this problem.

Daniel

Everything here is pretty great! I cant really complain about anything. I got into the college I have always wanted too! Its a pretty big campus and its actually bigger than my home town if you can believe that. But if I had to choose something I would probably choose the fact that there is no lap pool to use at the school.

Dominique

The worst part of UCF is the on-campus Housing. The dorms resemble jail cells and you pay way too much for what you receive, which is basically a headache. Maintenace never fixes problems in a timely manner and the staff is constantly rude to students. They don't care about your well-being, all they care about is taking your money. The staff at UCF will make you run around in circles and will never solve any of your issues. I would not recommend living on-campus to any student.

Mink

The worse thing about UCF is the high price of housing.

Kimberly

No current complaints.

Jad

PARKING, it's an absolute nightmare, and on game days if you plan on studying on campus- forget it.,the school is no longer an educational institution it becomes a one big drinking game with a crappy football team.

Nellie

I think every school has its pros and cons and in regards to UCF I would have to say that the worst thing has become testing at the designated Testing Labs which I believe are too small considering the significant large population of our school. Most professors have adopted the Testing Lab as the main test taking source thus it is constantly full and students sometimes have difficulty taking their tests on time.

Shella

The parking situation at UCF is somewhat unbelievable and disheartening at times, especially during final exams.

Arrione

The worst thing, is truly not a bad thing for most. But because of the fact that I work a full-time job I am only able to take night classes which limits my ability to participate in normal daytime activities. Therefore, the college experience is severely limited due to this fact.
