I love my university. I think the atmosphere is cozy and because of it being so small you can get to know a lot of students on campus. The classes are amazing with maybe the exception of the food. Also, the campus itself is amazing and very beautiful.

Samantha

OC is a smaller, community based university. Teachers invest in the students and are able to build relationships with the students due to small class sizes. There's always activities one can choose to be a participate in. The majority of the people are friendly and willing to engage in conversations of varying intellectual levels. The campus itself is clean, safe, and usually well-kept. Lots of local families use the trail around campus because it's one of the safer places to walk around. Overall, OC is a fantastic choice if you're looking for quality over quantity and all sorts of future career connections.

While Oklahoma Christian presents itself as a university that stands apart from others in terms of spirituality and policy, it is anything but. In truth, Oklahoma Christian operates exactly like any other university, even worse in some respects. The university suffers from a brand of nepotism that rivals some dictatorships, with vastly under-qualified individuals being accepted for positions beyond their abilities due to their status as an OC grad. While every university does this to some degree, OC is distinguished in that it is a gross offender in this case. The largest selling point of OC is the Biology department, lauded as one of the best in the state for the pre-med program, which is ironically populated mainly by non-OC grads. OC presents itself as a Christian institution, yes, but mainly uses this distinction as a marketing tool. While some instructors truly adhere to the teachings of the Bible, a fair portion of staff and even high-level administrators forego its teachings for their own reasons, which defeats the purpose of representing a Christian institution. In all, OC works well as a normal college. For about triple the price of some colleges, one can get a workable education. As a Christian university that claims to want to improve the world through Christ, it falls woefully short.

It's a nice school! The school is worth the cost of tuition

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Oklahoma Christian University is 60%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to not worry about what anyone else thinks or is going to think if you make a decision. It's your life and you need to do what makes you happy, not what anyone or everyone else thinks or expects you to do. Life isn't all about you, the world doesn't revolve around you but that also means that you don't revolve around the world and have to make eveyone else happy before you can be. Just forget about how peolple will think and just do what you feel necessary to grow and be happy. God will guide you and support you and in the process you'll find your real friends right beside you supporting you as well.

  5. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Because this is a Chrisitan University, it is very conservative. Although this can be a very, very good thing, it can also make other people feel outcast if they do not believe what the majority does. There professors do not force their veiws on you, but I'm sure if you do not believe exactly everything that is taught, you will feel uncomforable.

  6. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known that most all of my tests in college would be given electronically. I was not prepared whatsoever for this and the first semester I had at Oklahoma Christian, a school that outfits every student with their personal laptop, was difficult because professors prefer to give their tests electronically. After getting used to this type of testing, I feel it is more efficient and better for the environment as well.

  8. What kind of person should not attend this school?

The type of person who shouldn't attend this school is one who has very negative views on Christianity and religion in general. Being a Christian University the whole experienve is revolved around peoples' religious values. If one has a negative attitude toward that he or she will not enjoy anything about this university. In fact, he or she will proabably come to resent it and its structure. An open mind is definitely needed to attend.

  9. Describe your favorite campus traditions.

Being a Christian institution that is well respected and as an outstanding Engineering Department. The Nursing Department is rather new, but the staff is determined to help the students succeed. All of the professors are very helpful and the smaller class sizes from a public university is so nice as you know that everyone wants everyone to do well. There are activities on the campus during the week and also on the weekend. The first week before school started for freshmen is called "Earn Your Wings" and it is an excellent way for students to make friends to ground them.

  12. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

It is very religious based. The school is formed around the Church of Christ. The school is very strict in their views, which is eye opening for students that are not from that religious background. The school is a very normal thing for the students who grew up in a Church of Christ home. I think the school offers a different perspective to students who aren't Church of Christ because it allows them to maybe adapt and change their views on life.

  13. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Although I am 17 hours away from home, I have made friends from the very beginning that I know will be my friends during the next 4 years I am here at school. I have a group of girls and guys that I can hang out with at all times and there are also places on campus that I can go to be along as needed. The professors are very caring and all the staff workers are so nice and make me feel like I have known them for years. I feel very comfortable here and very welcomed.

  14. What is your overall opinion of this school?

For me, attending OC was a huge mistake. Oklahoma Christian is a fundamentalist Christian school that promotes very hateful ideologies, such as hatred of gays and muslims, theocracy and the delusion that Christians are a persecuted minority in America today.

  15. What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Sheltered, conservative members of the Church of Christ from Oklahoma, Texas or Kansas.

  16. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Student life revolves around an endless cycle of church activities. Daily chapel is a requirement, and students are required to complete at least six Bible classes to graduate. There is significant peer pressure to attend church Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night. The only campus activities during the week are twice-weekly devotionals and Monday night Outreach missions training. There are no real special interest groups on campus. If you want to participate in intramural sports, the Spring Sing music show, or anything resembling a party, you must pledge a social service club, i.e. a toned-down, chaperoned Greek organization. They are very cliquish and stereotyped.

  17. What are the academics like at your school?

The professors are nice, but most classes are less challenging than the average high school class. OC has an open admissions policy, which means that all who apply are accepted; as a result, professors have to dumb things WAY down. All the professors are required to be active members of the Church of Christ, making it difficult to find qualified profs in certain subjects. Terrible teachers can be kept on for years, even though they are not tenured, because finding a replacement would be too much trouble. Academic freedom is not exactly valued, as all the computers are equipped with Net Nanny software to block sites OC deems objectionable. Most of the students do not believe in evolution, and stubbornly cling to their ignorance even when exposed to overwhelming evidence.
