Going away to college has been a great experience for me. It has gotten me away from all of the things that I was used to and has forced me to develope into a unique person, something that I always kind of felt I was restricted from when I lived at home. I have also developed several beneficial habits that I will carry with me through the rest of my life. These would include keeping things organized, making demands of myself, and getting what needs to get done on my own. College has also renewed my own personal interest in academics. I used to love learning when I was little, and lost that spark as I trudged on through middle school and highschool. Now that thirst for knowledge has been restored since I get a say in what I want to study! Just wanted to also say, thank you for both the opportunity and your own personal time.

Out of my college experience I have obtained a new outlook on life. What most people consider filler classes on my schedule have brodened my horizon. Taking a philosopy and psycology class my first year as a student has let me think more indept about everything I've done in life. It cause me to make a few changes in my personal beliefs and habits. These classes have made me a better thinker. However, above all else they have led me to become a better person.

Caroline

I have learned a lot in my college experience. There is a very diverse population. I have learned to accommodate for others' values and beliefs. This school has been valuable to attend because it is a great community to be involved in. There are so many opportunities here that everyone can fit in. With over 50,000 students everyone will find there space and be able to connect with a certain community or group.

College has challenged me to really use my analytical skills to further my education. The faculty at my college are very enthusiastic and encourage their students to expand their knowledge as much as possible. In my experience, college has shown me the importance of discovering yourself and using this self discovery to be a better person, both academically and socially. College has made an enormous impact on the ways in which I view the world by showing me that there are opportunities out there, it takes hard work and creativity to seize these opportunities. I have also experienced quite a few hardships within my college career; these obstacles have reinforced the importance of going after my goals and refusing to give up. Without adversity there can be no appreciation of success.

Wesley

I love to learn. So gaining knowledge has been the most beneficial aspect. I also love people and have made lots of friends!

James

My whole life I have been told to go to college because of all the experiences I will have and all the meories I will make. I figured that those things were nice to say, but somewhat cliche. After a few weeks on campus I soon relized everyone was right. The football games, the clubs, the community, it was almost surreal. I love college and I make memories every day. I learn from my professors and I learn from my many mistakes. Without college I would have missed out on all of these experiences. College is helping me see the world in a new light and has really made me search for answers in places I would have never looked. College is opening doors in every aspect of my life.

Ive recently just graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandsing in Los Angeles. Being at that school and being able to imerse myself in Fashion and Marketing made my college experience there invaluable, my teachers were not only hands on but they taught us real life experiences and what it is going to be like to be in the real world of fashion and merchandising/marketing. Though I have recently graduated from FIDM I am now starting a new journey at Central Washington University hoping to get my Bachelors in Communications. College is not only an exciting and fun experience socially but it is continually setting the building blocks to my future in place. Without my first college experience at FIDM with everything so hands on and based on the industry, when I add my Bachelors from Central, College will have prepared me for my future and ultimately given me all the tools to succeed in life. Without my college experiences thus far I wouldnt be the hard working, dedicated student that I am today and I would be more naiive to the world and all its opportunities.

Giovanni

Thus far, my academic experience has been one of competency and completeness.

Jennifer

In my college experience I have taken away many things but the most important thing is learning skills that aide me in helping other's in need. Thanks to my training and knowledge from classes I have taken I was able to save a man's life at my full time job. When faced with a life threatening situation, I found a pool of knowledge that I learned from attending my college courses that helped me to save someone's life and that to me is an irreplaceable experience. Not only are the skills I am learning valubable to me but they are valuable to other people and for that I am truly thankful. I have also taken away self satisfaction that I put my mind to a task and achieved a goal. It is a wonderful feeling to be the only one in my family who has went and is soon to complete a degree. College has given me so many things.

songa

I learned to value education and the differences in our world. Most of all I now look for the education in every experience.

Kirsten

I've been attending college for almost 1 full semester now, and it really has been quite a journey. On day one, I was extremely nervous, shy, and scared. Since then, however, I've grown comfortable in this new setting, made tons of friends, and had a very successful first semester. Not only is college valuable to attend because you're almost guaranteed a better-paying job, but it helps you gradually make your way into adulthood. Sure, at times it's intimidating; moving away from your parents, buying groceries on your own...and best of all, not having a curfew! But really, with these small little changes I have seen myself mature in more ways than I can imagine. If one semester of college can do this, I can only imagine the years to come. I am proud of myself for pursuing my education and beginning my road to success.

University of Central Florida has one of the best Hospitality programs in the country. Rosen College of Hospitality has truly instilled team building principles that are a great benefit in the work force. Also, part of the program includes internships in various hotels/restaurants. The students are able to capture the principles learned in the classroom and incorporate them into their work life. Working full time and attending school also taught me great time management skills. Rosen is a separate campus from the main UCF campus so the school provided a separate home away from home mentality. Rosen is a close knit family that allowed me to gain a greater understanding of the travel and tourism industry.

I have gotten pertinent information that will help me get my licensure and certification to perform any position in my chosed profession and classification. Since I have been unable to get a job in the last two years in my chosen profession because I don't have a license or certification returning to school to get these credentials is crucial to my future in employment since I am my only source of income. The online experience is different because it has me doing class discussions that I would not ordinarily partake in if in a regular classroom situation.

My college experience thus far has vastly contributed to molding me into the matured, smarter and more responsible woman I’ve become. Going off to college, for me, meant venturing into unchartered territories without set schedules, without my mother reminding me to keep up with my chores and schoolwork, and having to take on all of my own financial obligations. Although the transition wasn’t easy, it has been the most unforgettable and rewarding experience. College is one big test, pushing your limits in every aspect. I’ve become more responsible and reliable with managing my time and money. Everything from assignment due dates, bills, and work revolve around the clock. I’ve developed and excelled academically. I’m now certain of my aspiration to attend law school. Throughout my time at UCF I've met amazing people that will forever be apart of my life. I’ve made life long friends and created strong many bonds with the sisters in my sorority. Going to college has significantly impacted and advanced my mental and emotional development. I’ve changed for the better, and it’s an experience I’d never go back on, for it has exceeded all my expectations!

Karen

The things I have gotten out of my college experience are respect for myself and others and knowledge to contribute to our society in a positive way. Although college took me a very long time to complete due to personal issues in my life I completed what I set out to do. I gained respect for all of the professors that worked with me and applaud them for their encouragement and support to help me be the best I could be. I am proud of my accomplishments and graduating with a 3.87 GPA. My education has been valuable to me because it has helped me earn a job in a place I love. I go to work every day and know that at the end of the day I have done my very best to teach those around me. I feel it helps me to be a good person. The more I share the things I know it helps me to respect myself as a person and the others around me.

The most significant experience I have gained from attending UCF has been my overall personal growth. I've always been a hard working, independent, intellegent student so the academic areas of college were expected. I grew up in a rural town in the northeast, sheltered from many of life's struggles. Since my family could not financially support my college experience, I was challenged to persevere on my on will. I have managed working and attending school while maintaing a high academic standard. Overall, I have surpassed my peers in real world experience and maturity to be an indpendent young adult. I suffered depression for many years and almost ended my life. Through counseling provided by my school, however, I was able to find my self worth and value my existence. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree and continuing to grow as a person. My college experience at UCF has enabled me to interact with people from various backgrounds and learn to accept myself for my differences; everyone is different. I am an average girl who comes from an average American family. My goal is to break the mold by beliving in myself and become something.

Brandon

The most important thing that i have gotten out of my college experience is friends. I have met a lot of new people and gained a lot of new friends in just a short time. By meeting new people i have gained allies on which i can depend on in the future. Ten years from now one of the people i met in college could be a senator or the president. Nobody knows what the people they meet will accomplish that is why it is important to make as many friends in this life as you possible can. Another thing i have gained from going to college is a sharp image of what the real world is like. When a student makes the shift from high school to college they go through a certin phase of uncertinty. This is what i have gained from my college experience.

I have been able to apply the skills that I learned in college in my work environment and also my personal life. It helped me to be a more independent thinker and I enjoy continuous learning. My career requires that I have a bachelors degree and I would not have been able to have that without attending UCF. Towards the end of my degree, personal circumstances required that I drop down to part-time as I had to work ful time, but the college worked with me and made it possible fo me to fit the classes into my life and I am the first person in my family to graduate from college.

Shelby

My college experience has exposed me to so much diversity in many areas. It helped me develop my opinions on issues I've never given much thought to. Being around so many people who are your age really makes you feel like your apart of something great.

Greta

My college experience has been valuable because of the interaction I have had with others. I learned so much from all my classes and through my internship. I was able to meet with different people and professors that wanted us to think 'outside the box'. After undergrad I was able to get a job from a company in Chicago and I packed my bags and moved! I had never been there before. I believe that so much of the young adult I became was due to the experiences I shared with my classmates and professors at UCF. Undergraduate school the first year was confusing and tiresome. I went from a high school of 350 to a school of 40,000 students. The transition was hard at first, but then it became easy. I had taken smaller classes and tried to avoid the stadium sized classes as much as possible. This enable me to really talk to my professors and to my classmates. I met professors who encouraged us to travel, to ask questions, and to investigate for ourselves. This was the most valuable experience because now as a grad student; I approach my classes in this matter.

From my college experience I have recieved the ability to explore beyond what the government standards allow us to learn. In elementary, middle, and high school, we were given standards in which the teachers had to abide by. We were only allowed to be taught what the government wanted us to learn. In college, I have experienced a more in depth learning experience. For example, I have been able to explore more than just the basis of history. As a child, I was taught about the conquest that Christopher Columbus had over North America. I was taught that this man did something great and he deserved to be celebrated. I was never taught that this man had manipulated and killed thousands of native North American Indians, untill I went to college. College has given me an insight to a new world. It has given me a new mindset on what schools teach and given me a desire to continue to search for more answers.

My college expirience has been the door to discovering a huge pool of wonderful opportunities and directions my life can take. I have met some of the greatest teachers and mentors of my life in college. I hope continue on to a University and continue to expand my horizons. There are so many things I want to do with my life and I know that college is the way to go in order to achieve my goals. Even though my life has been difficult growing up in a poverty-stricken, single parent household, I am going to do whatever it takes to continue my education and insure that my future is as bright as possible.

Eliana

What is really great about my campus is that there are 33,000 people attending. This has taught me how important it is to establish a stable group, like a community, made up of friends and fellow classmates. Sometimes attending a big university can be overwheliming, but by sticking with my "community" I have learned that I don't have to be a small fish in a huge pond. Its kind of how life is. There are millions of people out there, but the important thing is to learn from each other, and be as stable and happy as you can be.

Amanda

My college experience has allowed me to explore my interests freely and on my own and learn how to be more independent when it comes to everyday things.

Ancient philosopher, Plato, once said, "The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life." This concept undoubtedly captures the essence and purpose of my college career. The fundamental reason I chose to attend the University of Central Florida was their dedication to providing opportunities for students to succeed, in a wide range of fields and subjects. Further, UCF has provided me with the opportunities and the exposure to a multitude of knowledge, ideas, resources, and experts that I am confident will have a positive impact on my future. First, UCF has enabled me to gain higher level knowledge and skills that will open the door to numerous career paths and opportunities. Also, the knowledge and skills essential to my success are being enstilled in me, through the instruction of the most credible experts in their respective fields. Within my grasp, lies the opportunity to better enrich my mind, and I fully intend on pursuing it. In my time here at UCF, I will develop into a successful, respected, and secure member of society. I hope that in the future, I can inspire and impact someone's life in the way that UCF has impacted me.

Deciding to go back to school was the best decision i've made in my adult life. While it has been extremely challeging mentally and emotionally, being apart of a student body has filled a void I didn't know existed until I attended my first class in Fall 2009. -Prior to my enrollment, hospitality industry has been my full-time job for almost ten years; However it's been a roller coaster ride as far as wages earned over that time period. I strongly believe the inconsistancy in pay rate has a direct correlation with the fact that I do not have a college degree or trade certification. My goal is to have an associate's degree by 2013 and to further my education from there. An associate's degree will allow me work for a consistant wage or salary, while I continue my education. The saying that "knowledge is power" had yet to resignate with me until this year as my knowledge has increased from previous years. The excitement behind learning is an unspoken, compelling force in my life. I'm eager for knowledge, and today, the opportunites to educate one's self are limitless.

Sara

The most valuable thing I have learned throughout my college experience is who I am. I was able to learn about different cultures and views through my classes and the people I came into contact with. This caused me to question my beliefs and values and figure out what I value most out of life. My classes encouraged me to think critically and for myself. I proved to myself that I can overcome any obstacle in my way and succeed. Now that I am almost done with my senior year in college, I can proudly say that I have developed the skills, core values, and great experiences that will help me become a successful member of society. Without my college education, I do not think I would be as strong of a person as I am today.

College experience is something that is anticipated and conceptualized by almost everyone. My expectation of college was probably different from that of other students due to being an international student. First of all it is a great honour to be able to study abroad in a praised nation as the US. This is an extremely valuable opportunity which I believe will brighten my future and open perspective doors in the world of careers. My college experience so far has been intellectually, culturally and socially enlightening. Due to the advantage of studying in a campus dedicated for international students, I met a group of diverse students from all around the world and I was introduced to various cultures that I've never known before. For me this was not only new, but it also fascinated me and changed me to be more opened minded. I found it enticing how people of different beliefs and ideas can unite in one classroom to share their views and broaden their horizons. In my part, I realized my potential in providing others with knowledge about my own country, which most students didn't even know existed. I'm happy to be able to study here.

Susan

The most valuable thing I gained from my college experience is the way I view life. Without going into an unnecessary life story, I will simply say that sometimes it takes change and time to fully develop a person. I had plenty of time and the experience of college created the final needed change to set me in myself to be on my way in life. Through knowledge gained and experiences of diversity, I changed. I discovered a new way of looking at myself, others and basically everything. It has given me a great appreciation for differences and a strong desire to research life in all of its elements.

Sarah

College has been a life changing experience for me. I have learned that I am such a stronger, more independent person and I am capable to achieving any and all dreams I may have. I had a somewhat rough time my freshman year adjusting to my new life away from home but I am so thankful that I experienced it here, at UCF. They walked me through the year and made it a much more enjoyable experience. The things I have learned so far, not just academically, but about myself, will be valuable to me for many, many years to come.

Heather

My college experience so far has taught me how to be independant and more responsible. College is valuable to me because without a degree, I do not have any chance of achieving my dream of becoming an anthropologist. I am very passionate and excited about my future and college is the only way to get there.

Mathew

My college experience has been remarkable and life changing. I have met with hundreds of people and important higher authorities that have helped me network. I have attained motivation, dedication, value, amazing resources, and experience here at the University of Central Florida. College has motivated me to become my very best because of how serious it is. It has made me realize that I came here for one purpose, and that is to get my degree and expand my knowledge. It is extremely valuable to attend college because with a college degree respect, prestige, recognition, job opportunities, and endless possibilities occur. College is my investment to a successful career.

Brittany

I think that being a part of this school has given me a push to find what I love. I constantly find myself trying new things and breaking out of my comfort zone in order to find things I enjoy. The professors are wonderful. They are all very well-educated in their fields and they constantly have me thinking. I often find myself discussing lectures after class with the professor and my classmates. This school has something for everyone. It's one of the largest in the nation, so you would think you would fade into the crowd, but that doesn't seem to be the case. There is a strong bond between classmates, within colleges, and even with the people on the bus. People here are friendly and helpful and it makes the whole experience a positive one.

Ann

I received so much from my college experience. The education I received assisted me in attaining the job I still currently have. I am still constantly pulling resources from college and utilizing them in my everyday work.

Maxine

Helping heroin addicts accept clean needles. Uncovering secret cemetaries home to slavesud that worked tirelessly to build this empire. Observing father-daughter relationships at different ages to understand causes of sexual abuse. Spending every waking moment for thirty years to uncover the evolution of our ancestors. I literally cannot pick one field of Anthropology I want to devote my life to and after four long years of mulling over my options I think I have found my purpose. I could not have wandered down these ambitious paths without the help of a few brilliant minds. New Paltz gave me a Constructivism teacher that made me realize every single word shapes a different reality. With that I turned my sorority in a new direction. My Anthropology teacher there and at Olympic in Washington

When I said, “Today, I am a man” at my Bar Mitzvah, I thought that was it. I had reached the pinnacle of manhood. But I was still a boy. I had always gotten good grades and did what I was told, but I never took initiative. I never did things on my own. I just went with the flow and did whatever everyone had planned for me. I played at being a man, but truly, I was still just a boy. My time at UCF has changed all of that. I now know I have to take initiative. I am the one who has to take command of my future. I can’t leave that up to anyone else. I am now a person who looks for challenges and conquers them. I seek academic fulfillment instead of easy A’s. I look for extracurricular activities to enrich myself and others instead of resume builders. But most important of all, I have learned to step up and take responsibility for who I am and what I need to do. It wasn’t my Bar Mitzvah, but my year at UCF that’s made me a man.

I am in IT and have been doing it for years. Going to college is helping me learn things outside of what I normally do or deal with. The experience is a real eye opener.

So alright, yo pay attention, I had compiled a list of 365 things that have contributed to our success, but I was able to narrow it down to three main components. First, of these is the Dedication and the ability to continue to strive for a common goal, whether it be applying for Dual Enrollment; or insisting that the Orlando Magic is going to the Finals, even though they took loss. The second factor is aiming for excellence; when trying to rise above the best and move toward excellence. This ability to aim for excellence becomes impossible without my advisors! They are the key in the road to success. Lastly, they reinforced my ability to search for the connections and establish positive relationships; making and maintaining connections and working together lead to the complete formula for the road ahead. Together these three factors give the positive outline for future success. Moving forward toward greater things, recognizing these keys to success is essential. UCF has served as the factory, where the mental engine has been constructed, refined and perfected with the proper fuel, pressure and spark for our ignition toward the road ahead.

Throughout college I have gotten a new sense of determination. I have gained the mindset that ," If someone else can get an A why can't I". With these words backing up my every academic action they have pushed me through a successful first year and a half of school. I have gained motivation to take on that fifth class or join that club. In college I have learned how to balace my time and make the right choices when it comes to school. Even though procrastination is a difficult thing to completely avoid being put face to face with deal lines and projects I have realized that with enough effort anything can be accomplished.

During my high school career, I was not the most social kid in the school. In fact, I used to stay in my house during the weekends and either do homework or watch television or sleep. I never went to my high school prom or had many close friends. I disliked my high school experience because I did not do anything to change my experience for the better. The University of Central Florida has given me a second chance to become myself, by offering me so many social opportunities like free kayaking, movie nights, ice cream socials, and salsa dancing. I have met many people and close friends from these social events from all around the United States and even different countries; which I would not have gotten from any other environment. The college experience has given me the life I always wanted; just being myself.

Christopher

How to get out of your comfort zone. That has to be one of the most valuable things I have learned from the college expereience. When I was droped off last year I had to do something that I had never done in my entrie life. That is I had to learn how to take care of myself. I had to learn how to make friends in a place where everyone was a complete stranger. No longer was dinner a casual guaranteed thing, it became something that I had to manage on my own. I had to learn how to set my own alarm for school. Rather than rely on mom to wake me up every day, I now had to be my own alarm clock, with no one to push me out of bed but my self. Time management was another thing I had to learn. Being invited to parties and having no real curfew or anyone telling me that I ought to be doing homework, taught me that I had to be reponsible for my actions. I think it is valuable to attend college because it is the best way to learn how to truly grow up.

Chris

My college experience has opened my eyes and shown me what I am capable of if I put my mind and heart into it. Because I was a mediocre student in high school, I am very excited to see my full potential come to light in college when I give my studies one-hundred percent. I am very proud to say I have a 4.0 GPA, which comes from hard work and an understanding of how valuable my education is. Before I was a college student, I was a member of the U.S. ARMY. I spent two years in Iraq serving as an infantryman with the 10th Mountain Division. After getting out, I realized what I wanted and going to college was the first step I needed to take in order to reach my goal of becoming an accountant. I am not a traditional college student, being a twenty-eight year old disabled veteran; I have seen what the real world is like, both good and bad. College has proven to me how crucial hard work is if I want to succeed. This scholarship would definitely be a huge help for me in continuing to be successful.

Robert

I have had many bumps in the road throughout my college life. My first 2 years of school were a struggle for me. I never realized what is important for a college student. Since then, I have raised my GPA over 1.2 points. Many people would look at my situation and "do-over" their first 2 years. I feel I have learned so much from my mistakes as a freshman and sophomore. Being not only more mature, I have also learned what is most important to me. I have a much better head on my shoulders and am racing towards the finish line. Sure, if I graduated from Millsaps on time and without mishap I would be in a career right now. The money would be great, but the lessons I learned along the path I am currently on would have been lost. The places I have seen and lived would have been only dreams, and the people I have befriended along the way would be strangers. I consider my life lessons to be what I have gotten out of my college expericence, and being on the right path today is my real second chance.

Matthew

Along with the academic value of college, belonging to a larger student body has been surprisingly valuable. Making friends in classes is rewarding as is finding out how they are involved in the larger corprate student body. I have had the privilage of working with the Mens football and soccer teams as well as the Womens basketball and volleyball teams while working in the Athletic Training program at the University of Central Florida. This opportunity to work with so many student athletes has opened my eyes to the value of a larger University. While most students only attend classes, others are competing at the collegiate level and balancing classes at the same time. I have found being around the Student Athletes is very inspiring and encouraging to accomplish more then just what is necessary for class. While the goal of college usually is to get an eduaction, graduate and work in a career you desire, the value of your college experience only increases if you make lasting memories along the way. While this is a lesson I learned in college maybe it is a lesson for life, that there is so much more to life then just getting by.

Lindsey

When I was young, my mother told me to go to college, because college is where the gates of freedom are located, and the embrace of knowledge is more welcoming than one can imagine. As a sophmore attending the University of Central Florida, I am proud to say I am a UCF Knight, and I bleed black and gold. By going to college I have become more eager to learn, listen, love, and remember. I didn't realise how important ones education can be until now. When my alarm goes off, I don't groan, I wake up excited to go to class and jump into the sea of material that awaits me. The reason college is so valuable is because no one can take your education from you, what I learn I can keep for forever. What I am studying will benefit me for years to come. I am preparing for the wrest of my life. The things a student once found boring becomes unusually interesting. Going to college allows a student to help themselves. What I have gotten out of my college experience is more than I have ever imagined.

Michael

Through my college experience, I had the pleasure of meeting many different people, some of which I can call friends; I have gained alot of knowledge in different areas of study, which have ultimately helped me pick the perferred degree that I wish to pursuit. College has expanded my mind and helped me look and view things in ways I have never done before, I can personally say this experince has deffently helped me move forward in life and has motivated me to be someone in this world; in this case I would say college is a very valuable resource to have under you belt.

Amari

After finishing up my first year of college I can really say I am glad I have made it this far in life because, this experience was like no other. It allowed me to not only grow up and mature but, it also gave me responsibilities I have never had. It allowed me to be my own person and taught me to rely only on myself to get tasks done. It taught me the value of money as well and the inportance of saving. It put me in an enviornment where I felt as if everyone was on the same page. Everyone was there to better themselves through education and was willing to put in the time and effort it took to make it happen. It was a place that beganto feel like home, everything began to become second nature to me which helped me feel better about everything. The experience showed me that these are the years that will mold your future. It showed me that my input determines my outcome and that is what has helped me grow the most. I know everything I want in life and only I can get myself there.

Michael

I have made a ton of friends and I have been set up for a very successful career.
