What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Daniela

I just become enrolled at UCF this spring semester, but so far my experience has been great. Coming from a smaller school I was afraid that the transition would be overwhelming, but I am happy to say that it has been a very smooth transition. This was only possible with the great staff that UCF has. I have been through very frustrating situations with other schools where no one seems to care and want to help when I’ve had problems in the past. However at UCF, I feel like everyone is looking out to make sure each one of us succeeds. There’s always an answer to my questions and the staff goes out of their way to ensure I am getting all of the help I need. Another thing that I value much is that the faculty in my program are always keeping me up to date with new program information, internships and career opportunities to help me flourish. I can assure you that you won’t find this kind of attention at any other school. This is why I am very happy with my experience at UCF and would highly recommend this school to other students.

When I intially got dropped off at the school, I didnot know anyone attending. Since, I have established friendships I believe will last my life-time. Furthermore, being a cancer survivor, I have always had others speaking on my behalf because as a teen cancer patient, I was not educated enough to know what was the right answer. From August to now, I have gained my independance. I am learning again to trust my decisions; I have a voice again for myself. I gained a confidence again in myself, I now know "I can do this", I am capable. I am loving my new life. I am learning that there is not just one way of getting something accomplished and that my way of thinking is just as valuable as others.

Luisa

Ive learned to become more open with myself and others. Ive learned to interact with various types of cultures, and attitudes. Ive met extremely smart people that I can actually have a conversation with now. An enjoyable one at that.

Though I have only attended UCF for one semester, I have gained so much knowledge and experience to last a lifetime. Outside of class, I've met many friends and the "college dorm life" has been very rewarding. My schedule and classes last fall were great as well. I enjoyed my "Intro to Computer Science" class so much I actually considered changing my major and now am in the process of making Computer Science my minor. Being on such a big campus with so many opportunities to get involved and be apart of the campus life has also been wonderful. I attended many freshman activities and even applied for a position on the student government. Even though I was rejected, I learned that I will definitely keep trying, because even if you think you did your best, everyone else out there also did their best. Important life lessons like these have made attending the university worthwile. to me. Overall, my transition to college has been extremely positive, and I studied way more than I ever have before, but in the end, I earned straight As and am looking forward to this semester!

When I first was deciding to go to college I looked at the various colleges in my state, since I was a Bright Futures Scholar and was eligble for their scholarship with in the state. I looked atthe 7 major state colleges here and explored what they had to offer. I chose UCF, because of the warmth I felt when I visited the school, the students were extremely helpful, and talked highly of the school. The teachers that I spoke to were very encouraging and helpful in providing some direction as to my future career path. I like the largeness of the campus, yet the closeness of the students who attended. I have recieved personal growth and guidance. I have found a career path that I feel will aid me in my future employment endeavors and I feel that UCF has helped me find myself. It provided me the environment to find the structure, the guidance, and the substance that I had not found in myself before. I know that this is one of the best and most valuable experiences I have had.

I've gotten perspective out of my college experience. This perspective is in different forms too. I have learned more about the world I live in, and more about what makes me happy so that i can find a job that I can live with for the rest of my life. I have all ways been one of those kids who didnt really want to be anything when they grew up. I always loved to talk to people but never really thought that I could make a career out of talking. By taking courses at school I realized that medicine wasnt for me, also that I needed to define my self more if I was going to complete a degree in business. So I started to take certain classes to find the field I wanted to go into which was finance. I wouldve never figured out all this with out going to college and studying different fields to see which matched me. With this perspective I feel blessed and in a direction that I think will be successful.

So far duriing my college experience, I have learned what it truly means to be independent. I've learned that it is definitely more difficult than it seems. Being independent means looking after yourself as a student, and a person. I have learned a lot about who I am as a person, and what kind of life I want to have once I graduate from the University of Central Florida. I have learned what a true honor it is to be in college, and to have the opportunity at higher education. It has been valuable to attend because I am learning about life not just from my classes, but from my experiences at the university as well. I cannot wait to see what is in store for the next three years of my college experience, and I'm sure it will be a truly wonderful and valuable part of my life.

Amanda

The college experience had brought with it a multitude of good things in my life. It has brought opportunities for bettering myself not only in the classroom but also in my job. It's allowed me to meet new people and make what will hopefully be lifelong connections. The friends and the knowledge that I have gotten out of my college experience so far have made this a time in my life that I will never forget. These connections and the new wealth of information that I have gained through this experience have made in my mind college one of the things that is worth every penny. Its value shows in my happiness everyday because of the friendships that I have been able to form. Also it shows in the fact that attending this college has allowed me room to advance with my job and will continue to do so as I progress. Business is something that I have always wanted to excel at and through this college I'm being handed the keys to reach my goals.

Austin

I have met a lot of people at UCF that have changed the way I think. I've become more open-minded because of them and I think it has helped me to grow as a person. The diversity of opinions is remarkable and it is valuable to hear different ideas to shape what you believe about the world. Isn't that what college is all about? Learning concepts and ideas that develop you into a cog in the wheel of society to better it through your skills and abilities. By understanding other perspectives on life, we are able to take them into account to build a diverse society that allows freedom of ideas.

Kathryn

What I have gotten out of my experience was the knowlwedge of numerous professionals in the field. I learned things in my classes that taught me how to be, not only a good manager, but a great leader. I learned through the professors mistakes in the industry so I didn't make the same mistakes in the process of growing my career. It was valuable for me to attend UCF for multiple reasons. One,being hired in as a manager is done by either experience or degree and thanks to my college, I had both. Two, Some of the situations I have been in at work could only have been resolved as quickly and effectively as they have because of the outstanding education I received. I am very grateful for the education I have received thus far and look forward to continuing my education through my MBA in business finance.

Annisha

I’m glad I attend University of Central Florida. It’s a great school, the quality of education is better than most universities, and it looks good on my resume.

Gary

My college experience has been like no other. I spent my first two and a half years at a community college and im spending the remainder of my two years at a well known university. While still maintaining above a 3.0 gpa i still can balance going to work, hanging with friends, and enjoying my life. My college experience has taught me to enjoy life and always work hard to achieve my goals. The college where i attend is very valuable to me , its filled with a multicultural environment mixed in with different personalities , it brightens up your horizon to see how different cultures comes together for the same educational cause. Everyone on the staff is very open hearted and caring, they make sure you succeed to your absolute greatness and i cant ask for more.

Jennifer

As the first member in my family to go to college, this college experience has meant the most to me. I'm doing this for my family and myself, but mostly for my family. They believe in me so much, and I do not want to let them down. My mom works seven days a week, just so that she can help pay for my college. She never had the opportunity to go to college, and always wanted more for me. I know when I grow up and have a family I will make sure my children have the same opportunity that I've had. College experience is now a job requirement in most fields, and I want to make sure my children never have doors closed on their dreams just because they were not able to attend college.

Kimberly

I have gotten a lot out of my college experience. I have taken this opportunity in school to be as involved as I possibly could. For two years I was a director for the Campus Activies Board. CAB is the largest agency at UCF putting on events for the over 53,000 students that attend school. During this time I have learned very valuable leadership skills that will be helpful in my future career. I have learned how to work in teams and I have made many contacts through this phase in my life. All of which will give me an advantage over my peers in the field. While my extracurricular activites are important to my college experience, my acedemics are just as important. As an Event Management major I am being taught the event industry by some of the best in the world. Most of my professors have worked as Vice Presidents at Disney or are one of three people in the world able to teach event technology. Having the opportunity to be taught by these individuals is worth going to UCF and has made my college experience extremely valuable.

Brittany

I just transfered to the University of Central Florida from Indian River State College. I have only been at UCF for one semester, but I aboslutely love it. The teachers area amazing and I am getting my degree in Elementary Education I have learned alot and have been doing great in school. Education is really important to me and I do value my class time and the teachers time for learning. I have been involved at the school with a scuba diving club, camous crusades christian club and inermural volleyball team.

Rebecca

I have made amazing connections at the University of Central Florida, secifically among the professors. With all of the research going on, I have been able to latch on to an Infectious Diseases lab and take part in groud breaking research. UCF was not my first or top choice school at all and I did not think that anything positive could come from it, but after being here for so long, and having the opportunity to see, feel and experience the campus, I realize how much of a blessing it was. I have gained wonderful aquaintances and I am getting stronger and stronger in my major field of study as a result of my connections and work. It has been extremely valuable to become a student here at UCF because now my dreams are more clearly set out before me and UCF has helped me create a realistic way for me to achieve them. I do not think I could have made these discoveries and accomplishments without UCF and the staff with whom I work.

College . Wow .! Where can I start . My experiences as a College Student has been very marvelous and education, and a well different experience. I was not ambitious and well - driven ,since I started my semseter in the Fall I have been constantly empowering my mind ,seeking more knowledge ,have a drive to conquer every obstacles to reach my destintaion and have been very determine. At first I just started taking classes just to take classes so I would not just be taking up space in the world. Then as I got in engage in my classroom , and I love the challenge it had in the classroom toward my mind in every aspect to make the higher grades and scores and reach to the next level and to become a Future Educator and Lawyer of are society. I have learn plenty of things that I thought I know already. In conclusions , I realize your constantly learning and growing each day and its worth the challenges and knowledge that you gain. Plus , a " A mind is defintely a terrible thing to waste and while Im here I would do my best to soak up all that my brains is capable of doing .

Tyler

Out of my college experience, I have accumlated much more knowledge about the subjects i had taken in my incoming fall semester, than i have ever had. American history is much more interesting to me, which has developed more of a patriotic outlook for America and more republican views. My composition class increased my ability to develop an argument and has dratistically changed my view on writing, such as intertext which is based on empiricism which can prove its existance. Also, I have been apart of the UCF Knights football program by attending games and supporting our team, and in my first year at the school, our team won the liberty bowl. I have also been apart of the knightmare at our basketball games. By attemding UCF, i have been able to become more educated while having fun and becoming part of a new community.

Megan

The two most important things I got out of my college experience were life long friendships, and a great education. It has been valuable to attend a University because it allowed me to network with numerous people, who taught me many different things. It has also been valuable to attend a University because it put me in a hands on environment for my education. I have had the opportunity to develop teamwork skills, work with deadlines, and much more.

Erin

I have learned a lot about life by attending college. I've learned how to live more independently since I don't live with my parents. It's helped me grow up a lot since I have to get my own food, make my own food, clean up after myself, do my own laundry and pay for my expenses on my own. It's been hard over the past few years, but I know that this college experience is helping me grow and build character. I've learned a lot about dedication and motivation for success in my life. If you don't dedicate yourself to your studies, you will fail. UCF has made me want to succeed and do well in my future. Since attending UCF I have finally decided what I want to do for a living and I can't wait to finish my classes and be a Speech Language Pathologist.

Cayla

It's valuable to attend college because it set you out to get ready for the real world. I've learned how to be independent and not rely on my parents. I've learned how to live on my own and learn the essential needs for future places I live. I've learned how to met deadlines because of assignments, and to be puntual for class. College isn't just about education, it's fulfilling in the aspect of growing as a person as well.

Kristen

While I've certainly retained various experiences and knowledge from attending college, the one most significant is change. It might be cliché to say that everything changes, but when jumping from high school to college is a change that you can actually see and look back at. Not only are there new experiences to be had, but the individual themselves have to cast off the remnants of childhood. One example is the question that every teacher and adult posses to a child. "What do you want to do when you grow up?" As a child and even as a teen I never truly had answer until now. After seeing my field of psychology and discussing graduate school with my professors my dreams have changed and with their changing so have I little by little. I guess in all my rambling I'm trying to say that realizing that I'm now becoming who I want to be is the greatest gift I've received from my college experience.

nancy

From my college experience I have gained a higher embarrassment threshold. College is not like high school, where opportunities were as accessible as the sign-up sheet on the door; it is a dog-eat-dog world. I have learned that if I want an internship at Lockheed Martin or to be the president of the Society of Women Engineers, or graduate at the top of the Honors College, I must step out of my comfort zone and fight for my future. Because of this, I have grown to be more willing to stand up and stumble through a broken-Spanish monologue in Spanish class, and visit my professor's office hours to inquire about the 8 points I missed on the test. College has given me the ability to email employers to inquire about internships, and even when I am rejected, to continually, and without shame, ask them to provide me with resources and advice to make myself qualified. "Preparing for the real world" requires actually living in the real world, even as a test-run. College has allowed me to live in the real world, and understand that success does not come without putting yourself out there.

Rachel

When I first started attending the University of Central Florida, I never guessed how much I would truly be affected by the experience. My first few days were miserable, and I missed my family and friends from Tampa. However, shortly after, I began truly taking advantage of what this college had to offer. My classes were interesting, and there were so many people around that I could identify with. I made many friends in my major and even some studying other things. I learned how to be independent and live without my mom and dad and be totally self-sufficient. I even joined several interest clubs and met some really great people. This has been a valuable experience because I can now wake up everyday and know I am receiving a quality education and that there are always resources around to help me with whatever I need. Although I intitally had my doubts about moving away from home and starting over at a new school, I would not trade my college experience for anything in the world, and I hope these next few years continue to be the greatest years of my life.

Alexis

My college experience so far, I learned to do things for myself. College is no comparison to high school. Your parents aren't there to wake you up and make sure you actually go to class. There has been times when I decided not to go to class, just because I didnt feel like it. You actually have that much freedom. Everything you do from here on out, is your decision and you will deal with the consequences. I learned to take things into my own hands, such as my grades, money, friends: life. The word "NO" became my best friend , as well. There are millions of distractions, including friends, events, and social networks, but you have to stay focus. College cost thousands of dollars and most people are on scholarships to attend college, so you can't afford to let your grades drop. Despite the headaches of college, I have bettered myself and met so many wonderful people. People from Haiti, Jamacia, Africa, England, and all over the United States. I love every aspect of college, negative and positive, because I know when I graduate that I have achieved my dream and everything I went through was worth it.

Sonia

I moved up to Seattle, Washington to attend college right out of High School as a Psychology Major. Enjoying the sights of the city but not the school I soon returned to my hometown of Reno, Nevada. At this time I had decided that college was not right for me, and began to work full time in the restaurant industry. A few years ago I decided that it was time to attend college again. However, this time I stayed in Reno and have been attending the local community college and university. Currently I am an Education major and can't wait to be a teacher, enhancing and changing the lives of young minds. In attending college I know how valuble a higher education is and that it helps to shape and better your life in many ways. I have also learned that school needs to be my choice and that it can't be something that I "should" do with my life. College is a unique experience because it is done differnetly by everyone and everyone gets something different out of it.

Sasha

So far out of my college experience, I have learned life lessons I feel I couldn't have ever learned if I had decided to attend a different Florida school and especially if I had attended a community school. Moving out of the house, I have been forced to think and act like an adult both inside and outside of school; I've learned to really be able to tell who are my life-long true friends, how to cook, how to be thrifty buying groceries and other materials for myself, juggle not just one job but two, etc. Although I'm seven hours away from home, I've become unimaginably closer to my family. It's only through moving out that I've been able to grasp the amount of effort they have put forth for me growing up and now as they help me financially and emotionally through the life-changing college years.

Randi

The most valuable experience that I have had at UCF is a small writing assignment that we were given in one of my socioeconomic courses. The assignment was simple but so meaningful. We were told to write a professional letter to a political figure of our choice addressing an issue that affects the health of our community. After writing the surgeon general a letter depicting a health concern in my local community I realized that there is a definitive path to voicing my concerns on not only a local level but also a national level. I would never have thought to simply type up a letter and mail it to my congress person, senator, or even the white house. The most valuable experience I have had is being pushed to express my concerns and make a difference.

Tyrone

My college experience has shown me how to become more open to different nationalities, how to have better time management and forces you to plan for the future not the present. Growing up from a small town not seeing other races besides black and white has taught me that there plenty of different beliefs and values instilled within each race. Coming to college seeing people speak different languages, having different clothing and accents was an eye opener. I believe this encounter teaches you to become more diverse among all different sizes, ages, and races. When attending college your time management skills will become an expertise. College educates you on how to manage your personal life and continue to attend college and be proficient in the two. I believe college provides several programs and different resources to educate you on how important your future is to you and your family. People come in with a plan but with the different programs and opportunities presented many people end up switching several times but with the resources on campus it still forces you to plan for your future success not just the present.

Hannah

So far, I have learned how important it is to be able to market yourself for the future. Everything I worked for up until college was solely about getting into college. From here on out, everything I do will affect what kind of law school I will get into, what law firm I will practice at, if I will ever be able to own my own practice, and so much more. Being able to present yourself as a mature and professional adult really makes a first impression go a long way. Networking is also leading up to be a big contribution to my future. I have learned that a lot about where you will get is based on who you know and what you're willing to do for them.

Kelly

My experience at the University of Central Florida has significantly impacted my view on the world, and it has seriously broadened my horizons. Being from a small town, it was quite a change to transfer to UCF, where the size of the campus alone is almost bigger than my hometown. Such a change also brought along an extinsive diversity in culture, as I was now immersed in a campus with students from around the world. The increase in cultural awareness made the quantity of education all the more staggering. UCF has impressive graduation percentages in their varied colleges of study, leaving future employers pleased to hire UCF graduates. Further, what makes UCF better than other schools, is the experience, both while attending the university, and while pursuing careers. The school activities at UCF are amazingly exciting, allowing students to take part in organizations that are oftentimes once in a lifetime opportunities. UCF faculty members do their very best to ensure a positive college experience for all of their students. My experience at the University of Central Florida has been the most valuable experience of my life, and it will definitely impact the rest of my life.

Sarah

For 18 years of my life, I grew up in a small, 97{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} white, conservative community. After moving to a large city and being surrounded by diversity and opportunity, I have grown as a person. I have gained an understanding during college of how people differ and why the idea of a melting pot in the United States is so necessary. It is important to embrass every person's differences, whether we agree with them or not. With my college experience, I have learned something I never would have if I'd stayed in my hometown: tolerance. I believe that my future career of elementary education will be stronger and I will better influence my students to accept all those around, even if they are different. Although I have learned so much academically and gained numerous friends for life, I truly believe I have learned to think independently and accept those around me, which I believe is an important characteristic in life for a successful journey.

Christi

I am not a traditional student. My college experience consists of logging in to my online classroom, interacting with my classmates over a virtual connection, but never meeting them face-to face. I will be graduating from the University of Central Florida in May 2011, yet I have never been on the UCF campus. Despite this, I feel connected to the university. I am a twice-married mother of two daughters. My second marriage brought two stepchildren into my life. My children are the world to me. As a first generation college student, returning many years after high school, I want to show my girls that they could do anything they put their minds to and I am not stopping here; I plan to continue my studies to pursue my graduate and post-graduate degrees (even if I am going to college with my daughters). The most valuable part of my college experience, would be showing my daughters that hard work and determination pay off. The many nights I stay up late studying and doing homework are rewarded with a high GPA and a great education.

Kelli

It's hard to say how valuable college has been to me. It has been a life changing experience, at both of the schools I've attended. I met many wonderful people, had many great times and wouldn't change a thing about it. I adore everything about the college experience. There's so many things to learn and so many oppurtunities are offered through school. I've discovered so much about myself and about other people in my college career, many valuable lessons have been learned and I am so very grateful for the oppurtunity to learn more about my interests. So many people in the world are less fortunate and I hope the people that go to college realize how lucky they are to be doing what they love and furthering their knowldedge in whatever interests them.

Sarah

I have recieved an amazing education, learned how to live on my own, and made lasting friendships. I am confident that I will only continue to excel in my future education. UCF has assisted in teaching me this. For example, I am confident that I can inter act effectively with strangers due to the tutoring job I had on campus for the entire time I have spent at UCF.

Laura

College has been a never-ending learning experience that will continue on throughout my lifetime. The most valuable experience was that College classes and teachers taught me how to teach myself. As I go through life I will make references to what I have learned in College and will add to that knowledge when I am seeking my professionial goals. While in my profession during my lifetime, College knowledge will be the building block of my profession and I will have the skills, having learned them in College, to build upon my profession to be top- notch in the field in which I am in. College has shown me the way to personal freedom while learning and that what I learn and how I learn it is my personal choice. It is not all perfect, I must learn things I am not particularly interested in, but they all have a place in the higher education I am pursuing.

Erin

There are many things that have helped me with my college experience. Making new friends, and experiencing new things with them has probably been the highlight of my first year. Before college, I was very shy. I always stayed to myself, and rarely had any interactions with people outside of my tight circle of friends. But, now that I've gotten out and met the wonderful girls on my floor, it's been a lot easier for me to meet new people and get involved in things around campus. While all of my shyness hasn't gone away, a big chunk of it has dissipated and has been replaced with confidence. UCF has especially helped with me making new friends, getting more involved, and being a better student. All of the campus activities have helped tremendously, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. What I've gotten out of my college experience is a sense of home away from home, great friends and memories. It has been valuable to attend because here; I've made life bonds that can never be replaced; ones that would've never been made had I not attended UCF, nor college.

Caitlyn

I have been at UCF for almost four years now. I have learned a lot during those four years but the thing that I think made a major impact on my learning experience at UCF is the fact that when I first got to UCF I thought that I could get by and get good grades by doing the same thing I did during high school. I quickly learned that I would have to actually try at my grades and A's were not going to come easy. I learned that I had to grow up and take responsiblity for my grades and what I do since I am on my own. Overall, I think that my experience at UCF has been a great one. I have made many great friends, raised my GPA, and started to enjoy my classes and teachers.

Mark

My experience here at UCF, has given me more than I could have expected. Coming into college, I had my mind set on a single plan. Now however, through people I have talked to, my plan is coming together in a direction dissimilar to my original plan. I have been able to network with people in the law and financing world. Speaking with these people has caught my interest and given me the confidence to succeed. In the short time I have been here, I feel that I am ahead of the game and I can see my future. I would not trade this experience for anything and nothing is more valuable. People always say that college is expensive. However, in my experience with UCF, not attending here in Orlando would be the most costly thing I ever did. I am extremely grateful and excited for my future here at the University of Central Florida.

Alyssa

My college experience hasn't been all fun games like most college students. Trying to juggle school and working, its been hard, and almost wanted to throw in the towel. However, I see that the lessons that I have learned and the struggles I have pushed through is what makes this world go round. If everyone gave up when times got tough, then we wouldn't get anywhere in this world. I was fortunate to land a job in my intended field where I can continue my education outside of the classroom. My coworkers and managers push me every day to finish school so that I can move on to bigger and better things. I would of never had the life lessons, experiences, and positive support if I didn't attend the University of Central Florida.

Jacquelyn

My college experience so far has taught me how to be a good student. Not only have I learned valuable information that will steer me toward my goals - but I have learned how to retain that information with good study habits. I've always been a good student, but last semester was different because I took 18 credit hours while working up to 25 hours a week as well. I received straight A's for the first time since early high school, and was honored to be part of the dean's list at my school. This experience has made college valuable to attend because it has given me confidence and excitement about my education. What is more valuable, then feeling excitement over learning? It's not just something that I'm being forced to do to reach my goals because now my curiosity and desire to know all that I can have been activated. I will carry this experience with me for my entire life - having such a positive college experience is priceless!

Patrick

From my college experience, I have gotten different outlooks, a better sense of community, and a quality learning environment. At UCF there are so many people who wish to express themselves and their ideas, and with that mindset, a person is exposed to different cultures, lifestyles, and opinions that begin to make you think about the values and ideals that you hold. You no longer have one person in your ear telling you what's right, but multiple. It forces you to actually make a decision for yourself. The community here is so tightly knit that you can literally have a conversation with the person next to you about any sort of topic. We all realize that we are here to reach a goal and, under the banner of UCF, we help each other get there as though we were family. It's almost as if we have a blood bond with one another. Finally, the learning environment that UCF provides is one of excellence and diversity. There are numerous courses all geared towards respective majors that give you variety in choosing which path you want to take. This is invaluable in choosing what want to do in your life!

tabitha

I am the first in my family to graduate high school, and to attend college. Despite the money issues, I feel that my college experience has been valuable because I was the only person in my family to overcome the doubt, and struggle to make my future brighter.

Samantha

In high school, I was a pretty lazy person. My college experience has caused me to be surrounded by people who are driven and want to succeed more than anything. This has caused me to become a motivated, focused student. I am building a future for myself. I will be able to support myself and help those in need one day, and that knowledge is more valuable than any friendship. Although I am truly enjoying making friends and living in a community with many minds similar to my own, I am looking forward to starting my own student organization, doing an internship, researching various diseases, and starting medical school. My year and a half in college has blessed me with an extremely eye opening, life altering experience.

Kelly

Being a returning college student I was nervous about how I would fit into the collegiate culture. I first graduated with my AA degree in 2000, I have found that this time around it is so much more exciting and I am more involved in the academic learning process than I ever was before. My years in the business world gave me the direction I need to choose a degree that I am interested in and understand how I will apply it in my career. I achieved very much without a college education but, now with the aid of the course it’s as if all the pieces are being but together. As much as I thought I knew attending the university has made a blurry picture very clear. I am so excited by the education and techniques I am learning and eager to apply them in the future.

I’ve had a great college experience here at UCF. I enjoy working with other students who share goals such as mine. UCF has opened a lot of doors for me and helped me enhance my degree. Without their guidance I don’t think I would have gone as far as I have today. I also appreciate the fact that UCF has helped me come out of my shell. I wasn’t involved at all in my Community College and I thought it would go through the same experience once I transferred over to this university. I wasn’t that involved in my first semester but once I started making a couple friends that shared a lot of the same interest as me I started becoming more involved with my university. I’m proud to tell anyone and everyone that I attend UCF because this University has helped me accomplish a lot of my goals in life.

Attending Southeastern Illinois College has been a very valuable experience for me. Through the various events and classes at the school I have learned that instructors don’t always have the answers to life’s deepest question. Oh, sure, they can answer my questions about accounting laws, management practices, et cetera, but answering the question of man’s beginnings and endings, and especially purposes of life, well, they really can’t. They try. But they never seem to hit the mark. Perhaps it is because they themselves don’t know the Answer. So what has college taught me? My college experience has taught me to look deeper within myself—to truly examine motives, beliefs, theories, and dreams. Very little of what I believe and stand for conforms to the teachings and expectations of those around me. But I have learned that I am stronger because I’m not just a number in the crowd. I swim upstream; I make a difference; I cause people to think. College has strengthened my resolve to be counter-cultural; to change that status-quo and truly leave a mark on a community college; to leave a mark on my world.

The greatest bit of education I received at UCF was the ability to direct my dreams and aspirations into goals for the future. I've always known I wanted to go into the field of advertising and marketing but I was not sure exactly what job I wanted. At UCF I learned about the industry and found the role I want to play in it. The wide variety of education I received allowed me to focus on matching my talents into abilities for potential employers. Realizing my dreams into obtainable goals has made my time at UCF invaluable.

Even though I am a transfer student I personally feel I still received the full on college experience. No I am not involved in any clubs or anything but I was able to make good friends with the students in my classes. I love how everyone treats you like an indivudal and doesn't judge you if you are different. Besides from making new friends I feel in my psychology classes I have learned a lot through my professors especially the ones that have been working in the field and bringing their knowledge to the classroom. I love when professors don't go exactly by the book but teach you real life situations. UCF offers many opportunities for all types of people and I love that. There is always something to do here. I feel UCF has more of a home feel than other college campus's may have.

I believe that striving for a college education is one of the biggest building blocks to starting a career that one can pursue. Being an undergraduate freshman, I have learned that college takes a lot more than hitting the books. Throughout my first semester I have learned many valuable lessons from the challenges I have faced. The most valuable thing I have learned from college is that commitment and hard-work are the most important characteristics a young person can possess. I have also learned that being a good student is a lot more than a high GPA. My college experience has taught me that good character and personal values make a good student.
