What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Megan

I have learned that just because you go to a big school doesn't mean that you're going to be lost in a crowd of students and you can get to know your professor and they will give you one-on-one time and this is valueable because I think a lot of kids are afraid of going to a big school because they think they won't have that intimate experience.

Kathryn

I graduated with all my goals accomplished. I was summa cum laude, Honors, Honors in the Major, and maintained an almost perfect GPA. I learned an exceptional amount while really growing as a person. I wish I had taken more advantage of all UCF had to offer, but I worked through college and also struggled with crippling depression. Sometimes going to class was all I could do. The counseling and medical services at UCF were possibly lifesaving for me. It was free for me to get my regular med check ups and see a counselor, though it cost to see a psychiatrist.

Mary

I have been able to get this far because UCF does have an On-line Bachelors degree program in Education. Better than that it is in Technology!... My field. The professors are great and the classes are perfect to met My requirments and the stress of a family! UCF has incorporated learning in with real world so that we as adults can continue our normal every day duties and still take time out for a class. Taking classes at UCF has gotten me even more excited about teaching myself. I can not wait to finish my BS and then I plan to continue with my Masters!

Marissa

My experiences at UCF during college have taught me to manage my time efficiently to meet deadlines, adapt readily to new responsibilities, work as a team member, and function well under pressure. I am excited to return to school to study sonography where I can use these valuable skills I have learned in writing, communication, consumer relations, research, and critical analysis. I believe that my educational background and abilities will lead me to become an excellent ultrasound technician. In this field it is so important to be compassionate, logical, precise, and strong. You will need to communicate well since sonographers spend a lot of time with patients and other medical staff. I believe I deserve this opportunity and would undoubtedly commit myself to doing the best job possible.

Kenneth

I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to return to school after taking a significant amount of time off. The decision to return to school, and now following through with it, means everything to me. I honestly feel that if I went through life without returning to school, I would always feel there's something missing from my life. I didn't want to put myself in that situation where potentially I could not return. Maintaining an attitude of gratitude has been invaluable in my conquest of my academic goals. I started classes again in the fall of 2009 where out of 10 classes since then, I have received 9 A's and 1 B. I am studying Environmental Engineering and I have already learned seemingly, a lifetime worth of information in 1 year. My self esteem has improved greatly over that short period of time. I can tell I'm reducing the gap I mentioned in dreams that go unfulfilled. There is nothing I'd rather be doing today than enduring the road to happy destiny through academics.

As a Music Performance major at the University of Central Florida, studying music has been very rewarding because it requires confidence, artistry, and the right mindset to succeed, where I have continually improved. In short, it has helped me grow in many aspects of life. Through studying, practicing, and succeeding, I have become much more confident in my individual ability, choices, and goals. I have learned to work for opportunities and then seize them with conviction, which I did not do before UCF. My primary professor understands the importance of being healthy in all aspects of life, such as career, physical health, and mental attitude, and is determined that all her students become the most successful versions of themselves. With her support and guidance, I have grown exponentially and know I am on the path to becoming the most wholesome individual I can be. But in addition to the invaluable education I have earned from my primary professor, I have also met peers that have become supportive friends and have made useful connections that will help me when I enter the music profession after graduating. With what I have learned here, I know I’ll succeed wherever life takes me.

Andrea

From my education I have received valuable confidence in myself. I know that I will be ready to conquer the workforce when I graduate from UCF because the staff has well prepared me with the knowledge I need to succeed. I thoroughly enjoy the professors in my department. They are incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help in any way they can to ensure that as a student you understand the course material. I am partial to their method of instruction. Material is presented in a way which I know I will remember once I graduate. Passing tests to get through a course is one thing, but to remember the material once you graduate and need to use it in your career is another. In addition, the structure of the program allows students to receive on the job training with their internship program. I feel this is essential to the learning process. All around, the way in which I have been able to learn and will continue to learn at UCF has been such a blessing in my life. I feel ready to get out there and live my dream. UCF is what has made that possible for me.

Jazmine

What I've gotten out of college so far, good conictions with jobs, plans for the future, and just help when i need it, also new friends from my study groups, who help me out a lot when i don't undeestand something, and new amazing teachers who understand me and help me out as much as they can, so i can be successful in my lifes. college has been great new experiances every where i turn, new people, its great yeah i have my ups and downs here and there, but i have dreams to be made and the only one to make those dreams come true is myself, no one else is gonna do it for me, so i;m gonna give it all i can so i can be where i wanna be.

Lillian

As of right now I have felt a wonderful sense of accomplishment that I haven't felt from anything else that I have done. Continuing my education here as been a tremendous blessing and although I haven't been there for years, i have gotten the best out of it so far. Confidence with advisors has shown me that employees at my university care and do there best to help students. Also in my college experience i have gotten the use of new skills that I have learned to volunteer, which helps me to help others. The knowing that I can take care of myself and be on my own during college and my future has also been given to me while attending college. Although paying for college is tough, it has been a great experience and I look forward to the rest of my education here. I have made many friends and seen the many benifits we get just from attending this school. Benefit are the completion of a long term plan/goal and because of college I get the satisfaction of knowing that I can acomplish my major as well as everything else if i wanted too.

bianca

So far what I've gotten out of my college experience is growth. I feel that since there was such a strong foundation,I will succeed in every endeavor. Especially coming from a single parent household and without much from my family, growth is what I needed in order for me to succeed. Thankfully I am attending UCF,which will continue to give all that I need to achieve great things. I am grateful for the opportunities UCF has and will continue to give me.

Kelsie

College has taught me to break out of my shell. For my freshmen year, I decided to stay in my home town and attend the University I felt comfortable at. This experience made me realize that being comfortable does not mean you will be successful. I have learned that it is imparative to take chances and leave your comfort zone to truely flourish and reach your full potential.

Lamontez

I have not attended college yet, I have had my school orientation and it has a pleasant an fast paced atmosphere. To me, college is high school, but bigger and more work. I have no problem with doing the work and maintaining a good GPA, but I know that I will need some assistance. The college I am attending, Tallahassee Community College, states that if students need help, help is available, this I feel is an important aspect. To me, college is important because in these modern times, it is nearly impossible to make a good living without some college degree and/or experience. In order to live a comfortable life, I plan to attend TCC for two years to earn my A.S. Degree and then transfer to Florida State University for Business Management.

Ian

I started a program in my sophmore year of highschool called the Collegiate Program. This program allowed me to be able to start 2 years of college while still in high school. Therefore I will gaduate will my diploma and an AA degree. I am currently a senior and attending a local community college in Palm Bay, FL. Although Brevard Community College is not a state or 4 year college, it exposed me to some of the stresses of college life. Wherther it is getting to class on time or the workload, I believe this experence has better prepared me for my further educational endevours. On to of that I ve knocked 2 years off of college especially since i am persuing a degree in the medical feild. =)

Benjamin

So far, I believe college is the best place to find independence. This is the first time I have been away from my parents for this long at a time, and making my own choices and learning to deal with the concequences by myself is invaluable. As I grow older, my choices become more important. College is the transitional period where I can ease into the responsibilities of life on my own. In college, I have to plan the day by myself and be sure not to miss class and do my class assignments by the due date. My parents aren't there to make sure I get done what needs to get done. I also have the freedom to choose new responsibilities. For example, I got involved as a college leader at a local church, which is a new experience for me to come into an entirely new place. College has helped me to be more willing to take on more responsibility.

Being in college has taught me a lot about being on my own. In the past 2 years, I've matured mentally and I am able to see what my parents were telling me all along. I understand why they pushed me so hard because they believed in me. ..I have a part time job now to help me buy groceries which takes the pressure off of them to help me as much. This whole college experience is really making a man out of me. It has taught me that hard work and persistance pays off when you really want to achieve something out of life. Just from the classes I've taken up until this point, my vocabulary has increased, my outlook on life is even more positive. I'm interacting more with my peers and meeting different people with all kinds of different backgrounds. I am a mechanical engineering major, hoping to play college football next year. I'm learning so much in my classes. Overall, being in college is a win-win experience for me academically and athletically and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Randi

Out of my college experienced I've learned how to be more independant being an only child. I've learned how to accept people for who they are and to not take anything for granted be it my health or learning ability. The most important thing I've learned being at school is how to organize my school work and still find time to laugh.

Samantha

I am halfway through my year at UCF and I have en experienced a whole array of life experiences. I have been through difficult times but with the help of college resources, such as Resident Assistants, I have been able to overcome my problems. I have learned more about people and our interactions with each other than I ever thought I could. I have also fallen in love with my studies, my boyfriend, my friends, and my campus. This summer I have had the great honor of being an orientation leader and meeting hundreds of incoming students, both first time in college and transfer students. It is truly inspiring to see new students every day who are excited to start UCF. If I had not atttended this college, I would be a very different person. I would not have grown as much as I have, find a major I'm absolutely in love with , or understand what it means to be a citizen of the world. Like I mentioned before, my time at UCF is not over, and I still have two years to grow and learn.

Farah

Coming into this new surrounding has brought me great strengths as well as improvements. Being a part of the UCF community has brought me many opportunities to experience new things, meet a diversity of people, and most importantly acknowledge the reason for my attendance. It's been m life long dream to become a nurse and I feel that by being a student at this institution, my goal is attainable and that means the world to me. The staff is very friendly and supportive. Although the classes are rigorous, I will persevere in all of my goals and continue on to doing what I've always wanted. College has allowed me to take a look at myself and be an adult for the first time in my life. Now i realize that I am responsible for myself, I am my own person and I will leave a great legacy behind; one that will make me, as well as my parents, proud of my achievements.

Stefanie

At first I wasn't really sure about attending UCF. It's close to home ,and I thought it would be like high school all over again since many people from my high school attend UCF. However, in the end I feel as though I made the right choice. I have found a true passion from attending UCF. Most schools do not offer hospitality as a major, and UCF was the first school to offer event management as a major. After exploring the major and taking several classes I truly have found something that I love at UCF. I have gotten more than an education from the school, but at also something that makes me happy. It has been very valueable to me because if I had chose another college I may not have gotten the opportunity to find planning events to be interesting to me.

Reniel

More than just an education, attending college has made me a better person. I have learned about different cultures and that different does not mean inferior or superior; it just means different. It has also shown me that nothing good is easy and very hard work must be put to achieve my goals.

Jesusa

I graduated from the University of Central Florida in May of 2008 with my Bachelor?s of Arts degree in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication and in December of 2009 with my Master?s of Arts degree in Mass Communication. While in graduate school, I learned how business and communication meld together hand in hand. I enrolled in a business communication course where I learned about being a manager and analyzing proper patterns in upward and downward communication in a business atmosphere. One of my favorite classes of my graduate career was advertising. I learned about the importance of advertising in how it can influence people cognitively and how affluent it is in everyday life. These classes, along with prior work experience in business, have an integral part in inspiring me to pursue more formal education in business with the International Master?s of Business Administration (IMBA) program at Florida International University (FIU).

Barbara

At UCF, I learned a plethora of things. For instance, I was taught how to write a proper resume for job applications. I was taught interviewing skills and how to "wow" a potential employer. I was taught how to conduct research, use technology, create a web page, how to write effectively, how to speak properly, and many other valuable skills that are necessary to gain employment after college. I was also taught how to be independent and reason like an adult. College was a great experience for me. If I had not attended college, I would not have acquired the skills, especially the life skills, that I have today. On the other hand, college is very important if you would like to have a great career and be successful in life. Sure, anyone can get a job without going to college; however, a college graduate has an edge over a high school graduate when applying for the same job. In addition, a college graduate earns $2.1 million more over the course of their lifetime than a high school graduate. Thus, it is important to be educated, for it will help you to function better in society.

Jyri

The most important thing I have gotten out of my college experience is self confidence. I used to be a child with few friends and I had a hard time socializing with people that I didn't know. Going to college has shown me that being open to new people and new experiences can make life more fulfilling. All of the students and faculty that I have met so far has influenced me in so many ways and without going to college, I never would have met them. Everyone should consider to going to any kind of college, big or small, because the people you meet there will influence your life in so many ways and your life will never be the same again.

Sophia

I am an incomming freshman, therefore I have no college expeience thus far. But I expect an experience of a lifetime. I expect to make friendships that will last a life time, a successful professional career and to always be proud of being a University of Central Florida alumni.

Sierra

My college experience has given me a better sense of who I am and what I want to do with my life after college. Since I have been in college I have discovered things about myself that I never knew. Discovering these things has lead me into the realization that I am an adult now and what I do with my life is all in my hands. I have learned to fend for myself and not be dependent on my mother which is a skill that clicked immediatly upon my arrival at the University. It has been valuable to attend the University most importantly becasue it has helped me to mature. Along with this I have been filled with many new positive experiences and opprtuinites that I wouldn't have had if I wouldn't have come. My life has made a complete 360 and I am on the right path to reach my ultimate goal: success.

Lauren

The majority of those who attend college have one goal in mind, a bigger paycheck. I was one of those ladder-climbing, future bigwig breadwinners, getting an engineering degree solely for financial esteem and pure ego. Six months into my major, while working on AutoCAD, I caught the reflection of my computer screen illuminating my former self in high school. There I was, less than a year ago with innocence intact, earnestly trying to restore the bleak society I was a part of. How could I have lost that simplistic purity within a year? I was thrown into a tailspin, lost identity and all. Relentlessly trying to reverse my forgotten morals, I discovered my passion of biology with a professor that took time out of his lunch hour to talk about the biology program that UCF offered. Through him I discovered more about myself than I had learned in the last 20 years of my life, and reclaimed those lost ideals. This single experience has inspired me to pursue a path that will ultimately help humanity coexist with the environment. As well I have gained a realization that college is created for the greater good, rather than the individual.

Everett

My college experience has reinforced the importance of civility, morality, diversity and work ethic. With The University of Central Florida's ever increasing population, it was virtually inevitable that I would experience positive and negative experiences comparable to the real world. Many courses made it necessary to collaborate with students to complete coursework. Collaborating on college level assignments in which time, money, and credit hours hung in the balance, at times brought out the best and worst in personalities. A heavy course load cultivated an environment in which awesome work ethic and honesty was paramount or failure was the result. With diverse backgrounds, experiences, and educations my cohorts offered knowledge that I feel helped to make me a well rounded individual. Overall, it rewarded me with a respect for others talents, knowledge, and perspective. The value of attending The University of Central Florida is that I am now a multiple award winning teacher. I have won the Bright House Networks Star Teacher Award three times. College was very competitive in many respects. It presented many obstacles such as financial aid, course availability, and course rigor. Enduring it all to the end, I am victorious, and successful.

Stephanie

As an art student, I'm constantly having to challege my world views. There is no doubt in my mind that without the help of my excellent professors, I wouldn't be able to look as critically as I do, now. This applies not only to a model or still life, but also to social and political issues. In high school I thought there was one right way of living your life. Follow the "right" path and you will be deemed successful. But I didn't know what path I wanted to take, and so I turned to my community college. I really believed only the directionless, less driven, or less intelligent students resorted to community college and I was depressed. I'm now wrapping up my second year and I have not changed more as a person at any other point in my life. I have met the most diverse group of wonderful people, and I know I wouldn't have met them at a regular 4 year university. It has matured me so much. I'm now a passionate artist looking for the necessary aid to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I love college!

Scott

I have gotten alot out of my college experience so far. I have met alot of nice people, as well as some people I will most likely stay friends with for life. Also, I have gotten a very good education and have gained knowledge that I will be able to use in the future in my desired area of study. This school is always providing opportunity to meet new people and learn new things academicly as well as non-academicly. But overall University of Central Florida was the school I wanted to attend and I am very glad that I ended up going to this school because of all the amazing opportunitys available, such as intership offers, traveling abroad availability, and vast availability to learn anything desired.

Amy

What I have gotten out of my college experience and one of the reasons it has been valuable to attend can be summed up in a single word, networking. I have begun to meet people who have years of experience in my desired field or are on their way of becoming the head of that field. It is not just beneficial to be acquainted with these people, but it is truly motivational as well. Because of networking, I know people who have found a great intern or awesome job. I have gained supported friends needed, not just to survive but soar.

Amy

In August 2007 I began a four year journey, my college career. It has now been nearly three years and throughout those years I have learned to challenge myself and push the envelope farther than I ever have before. College has shown me that life is not easy and would not be any fun if it was. There is almost nothing more satisfying than knowing I earned an "A" in a difficult class. By earning my grades, I have learned that I must earn most things in life as well. For most, jobs, raises, and promotions are not handed to them on a silver platter. College teaches that everything must be earned and when it is, the satisfaction is overwhelming. Without college, I never would have attained the drive that is so necessary to make it in this world.

Jacquelyn

The typical college experience is one that many look forward to. We have all heard about how college is supposed to be some big awesome party before you are thrown into the real world. It isn't that for me. It's about being on my own and being me in a place where I can. I love the fact that in college, most students are doing what they love. Classes are not always "class" because they become something more, they mean something. College has been important for me because in the clich? kind of way it helped me find who I am, really find myself. I have made amazing friends, and met extraordinary people who have all taught me something about myself and about the world. I expected to go to college and get a degree, to become something because my parents never got the chance. But when I got here everything changed, I never expected to learn as much as I have and I'm not talking about school, but about myself and about life. This has been a valuable experience, attending college, because I needed it, I feel like I?m supposed to be here.

Julia

The experience that you learn the most in college has nothing to do with the classroom. American history and algebra will make you smarter that's not what I'm saying at all, but the social developement that occurs is really what shapes you into the person that you will be for the rest of your life. I came into college with a boyfriend of four years and he went to University of Florida...two hours away. When he recently broke up with me it felt like my whole life was running away until I looked in the mirror and realized I have so many new friends that love and support me. UCF is one of the most accepting places I have ever been and I love my school more than ever because when I walk the streets here I know that there are new opportunities every day and I have the freedom to figure out who I really am and which of those opportunities is right for me. Now I'm in an A Cappella group, progressing in my elementary education major, and loving my life in college.

Sara

Going through the college experience has shown me that I can make it on my own. I came from a very small town with a graduating high school class of 40 students to a university with over 55,000 students. I am on my own and I am making it. I have learned that I thrive in stressful situations and that even when things are looking very grim with no hope that in the end it will be ok. It has also been a great social experience learning about different cultures and backgrounds and beliefs. It has been valuble to attend becuase it has given me a drive and something to focus on where I want my life to go. I did not end up in the same town I grew up in going nowhere as is the trend from where I am from. I have dreams and I know to go for those dreams no matter what comes up along the way.

Dylan

When I think about what I got out of my college experience and why it is valuable, I ask myself, ?What 'value' have not I got out of my college experience?? Attending college became the greatest character defining point in my life. College is the key that opens personal doorways to develop, educate, and network. College brought forth opportunities to connect with individuals and intellectuals alike. Since I began college there were helpful and willing administrators to serve as guiding lights to illuminate the paths ahead. Throughout the course of my college career I learned to think critically, communicate effectively, and question the world around me. I developed the invaluable ability not only to convey and elaborate ideas, but also to support and defend my thoughts and reasoning when critically analyzed. Some say college doesn't offer much or is valuable; I say, with the many winding roads, open gateways, and extendable support college brings, the only way to get nothing out of the college experience is to do nothing. I am the marble slate; college is the chisel to sculpt and define who I am. A strong, invaluable defined character is what I got out of my college experience.

Jonathan

Without question, I have benefited and grown more socially as opposed to any other aspect of myself throughout my collegiate career. I attribute this growth to attending a university with such diversity. By student population, The University of Central Florida (UCF) is the third largest university in the country. With such an enormous student body UCF creates an environment in which I was surrounded by diversity. I had the opportunity to experience diversity by way of race, religion, ethnicity, culture, background, economic level, and upbringing, with some of these features having never been experienced by myself prior to attending UCF. While I was growing at a significant rate intellectually, I was growing exponentially socially. What I was learning in accounting class did not compare to what I was learning in a multicultural event outside of class. Certainly, it is the people, the students that are the catalyst to my growth and learning. It was their experiences, cultures, and upbringings from which I gained an unbelievable amount of knowledge. We grew together, as some of us became close friends. To recognize an entire world of differences is an amazing experience and is an experience in which I gained from college.

Jordan

So far my college experience has allowed me to start to really find myself as a person. I've started to reaxamin my life and goals and figure out what is important to me personally. The things that were important to me only a year ago are no longer as important to me. I've grown up more in one year then I probably did in all four years of high school. Being at college and on your own, especially at such a large university, throws you into a world of opportunities to learn what all is out there. College is not only about the classes you attend, which of course are extremely important, but its about learning who you are as a person, and who you're going to be for the rest of your life.

Jaque

Just the concept, that there are others out there like me. I want to continue on in school with hopes of being a neurosurgeon. I feel at this school there are so many people here that helped me grow and kept me on the right track so I can achieve my goals. Not only have I gotten the motivation I need to succeed, I have also gotten lasting friendships. Since this campus is so diverse, I am allowed to have a variety of friends. From those in my field of study to those who aren?t. Making friends is always a plus because they are there for you emotionally and socially, where as school is there for you emotionally and academically. I am so glad that I came to UCF, I know that I will be a great somebody because of it.

Amy

I am a 40 year old single mom of two, and going back to school was sohard for me at first cause I have been out for solong, but now that I am getting the hang of things I know I did the right thing by going back to school. I love it and I am so glad to be going. I know if I get a degree the sky is the limited for me and it will open so many doors for me.

Lynette

What I have gotten out of a college experience has helped me with my transition into university. I learned that in order to get to where you are in life you have to go out and grab it no one is going to hand it you. While attending Valencia Community College it taught me that there is not going to be someone there to hold your hand and help you. You are on your own and they will help if you need help but that is about the extent of it. I know that at Valencia I was so comfortable with the small classes then to move to classes with more then 100 students can be overwelling. Luckly I had help to transition and I was able to take my knowledge that I learned at Valcencia with me not only to university but everywhere I go.

Noelle

I would have told my younger self to not sweat the small stuff and keep your eye on the prize. Life is filled with disappointments and people who want to drag you down. Stay focused on what matters most to you and set realistic goals that you can attain. Learn how to put yourself out there; challenge yourself and what you know. Always be ready for anything and start taking more risks in life; life will go on even though at times it feels impossible to keep going. Stay true to who you are and what you can accomplish in this world.

Bradley

So far, I have gotten entertainment from the clubs I have joined. It has been valuable for me to attend UCF because this is an early step in my twenty something plan for my life.

Brittany

When I first started as a freshman, I was an undeclared major. I was not sure what I wanted to do, or where I wanted to go in life. After about my first year, I found where I fit in best, the science department. I took a strong desire in biology and chemistry. This definitely got me going in the right direction. I eventually had the desire to pursue my education further and apply for graduate school. I will start the Doctorate in Pharmacy program at South University in Savannah, GA in June. My desire to succeed and enjoy what I do help me to excel as an undergraduate. I've been a full-time student for over three years while working full-time as a server, in a restaurant. I've learned the value of education is extremely important and will ultimately be the foundation for a successful career.

Gerald

At the present time I am studing engineering and this is the school to do just that. Many of the instructors do not speak english very well and they are hard to understand. If you dod not get the basics then you are really hurting when the hard teaching comes along. Also the number of people taking or wanting to take special courses do not have that option because of the large class size wihich is present at this school. The school told me they would accept many of my transfer credits from an other college but that was not the case when the time came to transfer the credits involved, so I had to take them over again. Over all this is a good school and I am glad to be here.

William

It gives me a chance to go back to school and make a difference in many people's lives

Christopher

My college experience has given me the ability to judge the true value of experience. In high school, academics seemed like hoops of fire students had to jump through to get accepted into an institution that would grant a parcel declaring that recipients allegedly were educated in a particular field. This parcel would then act as some magical golden ticket that would reward the holder with a high paying career. I remember high school as "going through the motions" until college and that college was merely a few more dreadful years until real life. Being immursed in the cultures and population at my university has instilled in me an appreciation for the differences and value of people who do not agree me. Also, I have had the opportunity to study fields that legitimately interest me. By doing so, I have felt the calling first hand to study and receive knowledge. College is as much a whimsical location as it is a humbling experience. I am glad that I chose to go to college because my perspective has shifted from that of a limited high school student to an educated academically grounded pioneer of science and rigor.

Arlene

Attending college has been a dream that has not faded with time. I have been able to grow and show my 3 sons that further education is a valuable item to possess. Knowledge is power and you can never have enough. College is something I can do for myself that no other person can take away from me. I have a strong feeling of self worth while learning and studying. Agriculture is a large portion of my background and I am excited to continue a legacy however, I want to be updated on modern techniques. I cherish the idea of being able to be educated well enough that not only can I support my family and keep a dream alive that I can also provide products and services to people that truly appreciate a hard days work. In the college world, age is not an issue and being involved is not a discrimination issue. I get nothing but support and praise for completing a job that had been put on hold and study in a field that takes time to see a pay off.

mike

My college experience has allowed me the opportunity to learn the skiils needed in an excellent learning enviroment in order to enter the surgical field. During my adolescent years I was unable to focus on my educational goals and lost track of where i wanted to be professionally. The technical school I am attending now made it easy to get back on track with my passion in healthcare, as well as taught me the importance of hard work and determination. I am very pleased and proud of myself for my accomplishments i have earned and look forward to the challenges ahead.

Out of my college experience I have had a lot time to myself and time to grow up and become an adult. college has helped prep me for life after i graduate from ucf because i have learned to be on my own and not so dependent on my family when it comes to things like money. college has helped me find myself and become a better person in many ways. It has also showed me different ways of learning and has informed me more and more everyday on my career path.

I am attending the University of Central Florida (UCF). My major is molecular and micro biology. I am very fortunate to be involved in two great programs at UCF; the Excel Program and the Lead Scholars Program. The Excel Program is specifically for those students who are pursuing a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics related degree. Although it is a very aggressive program, I attend all of my courses with these core group of students. Although we have many resources to help us be successful in college, we also rely on each other for support and help in completing our coursework. The Lead Scholars Program requires that I attend one leadership course per semester. I also must volunteer 10 hours per semester to benefit a childrens' programs in the community, attend a minimum of 3 UCF events to interact with other college students and attend 2 Leadership Student Association (LSA) events to learn more about being a leader and role model in the community in which I live. I joined the Delta Delta Delta sorority which volunteers for UCF and St. Jude's Hospital. I am anxiously awaiting our first volunteer experience which is scheduled for Spring 2010.
