University of Central Florida Top Questions

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Jessica

During my time at University of Central Florida I have found that it has seemingly unlimited opportunities for academics, social interactions, and volunteerism. I am heavily involved in all three venues in a manner that is unique to my interests. Even though UCF is one of the largest universities in the United States, the faculty and staff here make sure to provide individual attention and opportunities according to your preferred subject. I am part of the Burnett Honors College and it has become my family on campus. The faculty and teachers all know my name and strive to see me succeed. One of my professors even encouraged me to attend the Italian Study Abroad program and he is even assisting me to find scholarships to fund this trip. This way, I can learn in an interactive and unusual setting outside the classroom. In addition to unique academic opportunities, I was also able to get a job on campus that combines volunteerism with the local community public schools. I am able to make a positive impact internationally and locally through UCF. The doors open to me are numerous and I cannot wait to continue my academic career at UCF.

Understanding the global community and society at large has been my personal revelation through college. "No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." - John Donne I truly grasp what Donne was striving to explain. College has shown me that we are all an integral part of the human story. Networking, study groups and making friends from new cultures is a door that my college experience opened up. I will take these lessons and experiences with me in life and further the cause of universal brotherhood, understanding and compassion!

Kathryn

College is a time for discovery and new experiences. For me it has been interesting so far. I have never been to such a large school and had to learn I have to make an effort to find what I am interested in and to get involved with it. I am a muscian and a scientist; and I can be both of these things at UCF. It is such a large school with so many opporunities I have really been able to find my passion. There is a place for everyone here!

My experience at BCC is not what I initially imagined and I was one of those many people who thought community college was a joke and I was surprised on my first day as a college freshmen. The work is't really hard, it's just a huge workload especially with all of the classes giving you project after project. During my 1st semester I had a proffesor who I could barely understand because he could not speak english and who was not helpful at all, and I thought I would just give it a shot and make it through. As tests went by I realized I wasn't going to pass (even when I took this class and passed with an A in hs) and it was already too late to drop out. I even stayed later for help and yet I still failed. This experience and college made me realize my priorities and that I control my future. With just one semester down, my college experience surpassed what I had expected it to be. Now, I am even more prepared to move on to the next semester and the even more to come.

Although the most frustrating part about going to my school is the fact that there are not many faces that look like mine reality is most of the world does not look like me. And for the faces that looked like me they had a background in culture that was far diffrent from mines. Being placed in this setting of diversity I am allowed to not only see the diffrent aspects of cultures but also I can part take in them! From food to diffrent ideas I experienced a major culture shock when I stepped on the University of Central Florida Campus but I am grateful that I did. Many individuals who live in the United States don't get the opportunity to be exposed to such an amazing thing . In fact they don't see a world outside of the U.S. Although I know the previous statement is quite ignorant it is the truth. My response is anyone who has that mindset should pay a visit to my school. They might just learn a thing or two about Diversity. UCF DIVERSITY KNIGHTS ALL THE WAY!!!!

So far, I have learned through my college experience that a dream does not need to happen in a matter of three or four years. It can take someone an entire lifetime to fulfill their dream. What really matters is the effort you make in getting there. I see students my age and students older than me who are at different points in their paths. I have been taught that reaching my dream is not so impossible for me, despite past mistakes. If I had still believed that I could not reach my goal, then I would not have graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA. I would not have paid my tuition to attend the two year college that I am at now. I would not be working hard in every single class that I have, and I also would not be applying for this scholarship if I still believed that my dream is not worth fighting for. I do not care how long it takes, I know I will achieve my goals and get the career of my dreams.

The most important thing that I have got out of college, is that if you apply yourself just as much as you would do to a favorite game or sport, your college career will be a success. Another great thing I got out of this experience is to stop procrastinating! That helps!

Michael

out of my college experience I have gained the knowledge that education is priceless. Without education it is very hard to go anywhere in life. I took for granted my education while I was in high school. However, after going through 4 years in the Military and being deployed twice I realized how important education really is. I am constantly trying to challenge myself in the classroom, much like I did when I was in the military. I try to talk to some of these young kids that are in my classes about taking it serious and not take for granted what they have in front of them.

McKenzie

From my college experince I have gotten many things. I have gained a sense of indepedance from living on my own, away from my family. I have also learned how to deal with people who are different from me and different from the people I was used to back at home. This experince has been very valuable to me becasue it has taught me that there are different things outside of the bubble I was used to and that I should embrace all the differences.

Marianne

College experience is very different that highschool. I learned to be more competitive and study harder. I also notice the value of education that the professors are teaching us. It makes me pursue harder and be stronger as a student and as a person.

Sara

To ask what I have gotten out of my college experience is a much more complicated question than it sounds, merely because it seems that after a year and a half I have gained an exponential amount of various things from my personal experience. The first obvious item that I have gotten out of college would be the knowledge obtained from what the courses I have taken and the professors have taught me. I have also gained gained a whole new set of lifelong friends that I met through classes, jobs, and organizations. But I have gotten much more than that. My college experience has heightened my maturity, as well as my wisdom. It has opened my mind to new ideas, and helped me to become less judgemental of those who differ from myself. It has caused me to learn better time management, as well as what it really means to work hard for your desired results. I think to have gained all that from my short experience is exactly why it has been so valuable to attend UCF, because I honestly believe that this is a once in a lifetime experience that only UCF could have given me.

Amanda

I have learned a great deal from my college experience not only about academics but about myself and who I want to be as a person. It is important to not just read the text books and regurgitate the material but to actually learn it and understand it. I went to college to educate myself. Although I have had my frustrations in attending four different colleges as an undergraduate it opened my eyes up to the world. I have met many different and diverse people from different cultures and backgrounds that I would have never known had I not gone to college. Therefore if I had not gone I would not only have deprived myself of an education but of the experience of meeting people that opened my mind up to the world around me. I have learned from great professors who have had a profound influence on me and will continue to influence me in my career as a I continue to pursue my academics in obtaining my masters degree.

Courtney

It has truly been an amazing experience at the University of Central Florida. It being the 2nd largest university in the nation, I have met so many people and have many valuable friendships that will last a lifetime. Also, UCF is great for its academic opportunities such as internships and gaining relevant work experience. And it is also great for its academic success by having many options for tutoring and supplemental help. It is a fun school, we have tons and tons of free events (and free food!) at this school. Although UCF is huge, I enjoy it every single day. The environment is very clean, very open and easy to navigate. And most of all, the students and faculty here seem to enjoy where they are and they tend to be very friendly. When I graduate from UCF, I will definitely miss the experience of being on-campus and being a college student!

Tyler

During my years at the University of Central Florida, I have learned several things. One lesson that I have learned is time management. I have learned that in order to accomplish all of the many tasks that accompany college work, students must effectively plan out their time. If a student does not, he or she will undoubtedly become stressed and overwhelmed by their work. Therefore, I make sure to effectively plan my week so that it includes time for homework and friends. During my time at college I have also learned the valuable skill of networking. In theatre, and many other industries, jobs are found through professors and guest speakers. By knowing how to market yourself and how to create successful communications, finding a job becomes much easier. Before college, I was shy and did not like to interact with strangers. However, this year more than ever, I have broken my shell and made connections in the theatre world that have already helped me. I have found college to be very helpful. Not only have the classes given me a great amount of knowledge, they have also provided me with basic skills that will be helpful in the professional world.

Noah

A lot of valuable experience and knowledge as well as a lot of hopefully lifelong friends. Would write more but am currently bedridden with strep-throat.

Lauryn

I have gotten more out of my college experience than I ever imagined. I was fortunate enough to have opportunities to connect with fellow students and share my enthusiasm for UCF with incoming students. It has been wonderful to see those new students get connected and make lasting memories. Academically I have achieved great success. I challenged myself to succeed within my major, and I am now in the Accelerated BS/MA program in Communication Sciences & Disorders. Although I graduate with my BS this May, I will have completed six graduate level classes. My experience at UCF has been rewarding, and I have grown so much from it. The people I have met influenced me and have encouraged me, and I am eternally grateful for them. The monetary cost of attending UCF does not compare to the value of my experiences. I am thankful for my willingness to try and experience new things because without that drive my experience would not have been as fulfilling.

Bianca

I have gotten a new perspective on learning, life, and people. I have learned many things and have net so mant different people. Ive step into a new world and experience a simple yet new thing. College isnt about just getting a degree so that you can get a job. College is a bout learning and growing and maturing into the best version of yourself, free to learn, free to make mistakes. free to be the best.

The campus is beautiful, and it is safe. It is a large place where there is plenty to do. The activities are great, especially the ones that supply free food, they don't hold back and there is just always a place to go when you need to. The Student Union becomes the 24-hour Study Union during finals weeks, and there are random hints of artwork on the sidewalk that you can find at any moment. As I mentioned with the campus' beauty, it is a great place to just walk around, get the extra cardio in, or relax in the grassy fields of Memory mall or by the fountain in front of Millican Hall. If there is anything that is a plus about such a large public school that is The University of Central Florida it's that it doesn't feel overcrowded or uncomfortable. And so far I've just felt at home without much anxiety and an extreme need to be active and stay with the undergraduate program.

I am a 37 year old student that returned to school after over 15 years of not completing my college education, so the college experience has been both awarding and difficult at times for me. Due to my age and the other responsibilities in my life at this time, adding studying, attending classes, projects and testing only adds to my already busy life as a single mother. However, returning to school had been the most rejuvenating and inspirational thing that I have done in my life. This opportunity has allowed me to work toward a degree in which I never thought I could receive. It opens up doors for a better job opportunity with higher pay and allows me a better chance in advancement on a job. This experience has allowed me to meet new people that have become friends, learn better organizational skills and most important allowed me to become a more positive role model for my kids. All of these reasons make returning back to college valuable for me to attend.

Before college, I thought I had it all figured out; it was like this psychosomatic type of blindness kind of thing—I was literally staring at a black inkling on a wall, and at the age of seventeen it just didn’t mean I could turn the tables out of wedlock. You must have taken one gargantuan bite of that bitter lime to indulge in the idea! In real life, one just doesn’t get the easy A, much less the luxury of skipping secondary school—as if I was a prodigy of some kind. But it’s not about the sarcasm of it all, it’s about one’s persistence against all odds and the stories out of this struggle, and that in itself is treasure enough. I used to think I’d won the lotto by filling up my resume with endless chatter, but college has made me realize it’s much more; not because I pretend the Einstein of some kind, but because in the long run whether you are making your bed in the morning, helping out at a student film production, or just doing someone a favor, one must gives one’s best, period.

Attending UCF has broadened my intellectual knowledge and curiosity. There are many rumors one hears prior to attending a large university- that you will get lost in the crowd, that progress is valued above actual learning- in my case at least, none of this has turned out true. Professors go out of their way to make students feel comfortable and to be engaging despite the large lecture halls, and to cover more than just the basics required within the course. I love realizing how much I am learning when I hear some of the same important names mentioned in classes of different disciplines. Several of my professors have given speeches at the beginning of the class informing students that they should be there to gain knowledge, not to earn a degree as quickly as possible to acquire a job. I have spoken to students at other colleges who have not had a similar experience, who are encouraged to memorize facts rather than to gain an interdisciplinary understanding. Often I reflect on what I would be like without this experience. I feel that prior to attending college I lacked an important personal depth and understanding of the workings of the world.

Because of my poor decision making last summer, my education was put on temporary hold for a semester. They say you don't know what you have until it's gone and there is no better way to explain this situation. Almost losing the chance to return to the University of Central Florida was one of the most devestating feelings. I let myself down and promised I would never allow myself to put my education on hold again. I am so thankful that I got a second chance and am now doing wonderful in school. I am taking full advantage of the opportunities I have receieved and could not be happier. I know I am capable of so much and will do great things in my future. My college experience has been good, bad, sad, happy, and every emption impossible. But through the hard times, I would not change one thing. Everything I have gone through has helped make me into the strong, smart, and mature person I am today, and those are valuable assets my college experience has given me.

I have expanded my horizons so much by attending UCF, I have met new people, and learned a plethora of new subjects. I am finally able to take only courses I like, and I am doing well because of it. The people I have met and friends I have made will stay with me for my entire life, and I can't imagine my life without them in it. The experience of living on campus is wonderful, and not to be missed, no matter how much housing costs. Walking around campus at night, knowing you can get a ride home safely is a comforting thing; the fact that I made at least a hundred new friends through extra-curricular activities makes me wonder how I ever got along without them. The Marching Knights at UCF have expanded my musical horizons and introduced me to Greek life that doesn't involve drinking, and given me a view of UCF Athletics that I would never have as a fan. UCF is brilliant, and I've gained perspective on my life and understanding of others in the process.

Destiny

Tough circumstances do not prevent people from obtaining a college degree; however, excuses do! The short time that I have been enrolled at AU has made me a better person. I have grown so much. I have learned much. College life can be stressful, but commitment is the key to success. I have learned that it is possible to reach educational goals.

Having spent only a semester of my life at UCF, I can say that life at college has flourished many interest within me. For the past thirteen years of my academic life I have loathed the idea of attending school everyday. The same mundane teaching format dulled my mind, and discouraged from taking interest in school. Attending college I have met professor who have a passion in their disciplinaries, instilling that same passion in their lectures and infecting their pupils. Whether it's understanding bipedalism, Danish films or fiscal policies, I find every class now to be more enjoyable. I find myself walking to class with a pep in my step. Attending UCF I have discovered a passion for learning, which I expect to only grow as I further my education. Throughout high school I was never the athletic type, I was considered a yerd (Yearbook nerd) by my peers. This winter I started playing IM soccer and not only developed more athletic abilities but I cultivated new friendships with my teammates. I met people from all across the state of Florida, and the world. Meeting new people has introduced me to customs all across the world. College is worthwhile.

The college experience is different and unique for everyone. I have met so many different people with diverse but similar interests at the same time in my college life. Over all, it was a pleasant experience. As a computer engineering student, I had the hand-on learning experience from different projects and lab assignments in addition to conceptual learning experience that helped me understand real-world working environment and scenarios. Through the process, I learned the importance of a college education. College education provides opportunities for graduates that are not as widespread to those who have not received a higher education. This may be true that college degrees are simply not necessary for many jobs but according to the report, “Education Pays: the Benefits of Higher Education for Individuals and Society”, workers with a college degree earned much more and were much less likely to be unemployed than those with only a high school diploma.” The real pay of college graduates has risen over the past twenty five years where the real pay of every other group has dropped. Other that then salary factor, the college education helps students to develop creativity, efficiency and excellence in their field of study.

College is the time of one's life to learn the most basic and the fundamental aspects of a professional career. It is true that some who graduate from high school have succeeded tremendously with their respective career, but it is very valuable to attend college to pursue one’s dream job. In today’s society, a degree holder is inevitably more marketable in the work-field. My college experience has been a tremendous success despite many mishaps and downfalls throughout. The biggest thing that I have learned is to be proactive. Taking the initiative to do something; to reach out to people; to build strong relationships; to gain many experiences through internships and research studies; to have fun and study at the same time; and most importantly to love learning are what makes it a unique, individualized experience. It is not a matter of how prestigious or well-known a school is, nor how long it takes to go to school for, but the most important of all is to graduate and have a career that I love doing for the rest of my life! That is what college is all about.

As a current sophomore at the University of Central Florida, Perseverance and empathy are two qualities that college has instilled within me. An abundant amount of conflicts have been resolved by my new found qualities. My empathy enables me to relate with other peoples’ experiences. This sentience also gives way to my fluent communication and teamwork skills with others. But, the University of Central Florida has also helped me realize that my over-sensitivity is my greatest weakness, which brings me to my un-wavering perseverance. I believe that the best formula for success is to perform trials until there are no errors. Perseverance, in return, has brought me patience. For example, I’ve learned that dealing with aggressive situations doesn’t mean to tackle them aggressively. It means dedicating your focus to solving the problem persistently. These two qualities, perseverance and empathy, are cogs that mesh intricately to perpetuate my values like clockwork. UCF is fine-tuning my values and aspirations during my time as an undergraduate. The current and future morals and goals UCF provides me with shall become valuable stepping stones in which I can both follow and lead.

Geoffrey

I have learned alot about the subjects that i have taken, i met alot of people, have done alot of things, and have really grown up since moving out on my own. I love every decision that i have made in the process of coming here and i would not change any of the decisions. UCF is a great college, it is hard but it should be.

Morgan

Though I have only been in college for a short period of time I have learned so much and have grown as a student as well as a person. College has made me more independent due to moving away from home and having to deal with the real world on my own. Time management has been a major skill that I have perfected while being at college. Managing class, homework, finances, exercise, laundry, and fun time has kept me balanced and made me set my priorities in a positive manner. Overall college has made me grow up and learn how to be on my own and now I know once I graduate and I am truly on my own, I will be able to handle it.

Anthony

Attending college has opened my eyes to how important education is, it has made me not only do very well in school but to also continue my education outside the classroom by teaching myself Japanese and parkour, and also teaching people around me. I teach not only a language but also ways to stay positive and to start planning and making goals they feel they cannot reach at this point, a goal is something you have to work toward, if your goal is something you can achieve right now then it is no longer a goal at all, its simply something you haven't done yet. Being in college has helped me establish good, stable and life-long goals to achieve. But it has also made extremely adamant about accomplishing these things. I will not stop until I attained my dreams of living in Japan, creating video games for Square-Enix, and competing in Sasuke, an obstacle course in Japan only 3 people out of 2600 have ever completed. So I guess what I have gotten out of my college experience is motivation, to do well, and never stop. This motivation is priceless not just valuable.

Christina

I have gotten alot out of my scholarship experience especially attending college later in my life the value has been even more clear. The knowledge has been very help with my career and has been a great experience to share with my children the importance of a college education. It has been fun and interesting meeting and sharing different experiences with other college students, including different ideas, points of views and interests. It was great to have my children watch me graduate with an Associates Degree and they were very happy for me to accomplish such a task and be such a great mommy at the same time. I express to them that they can do anything at any point of their lives if they put their minds to it and have the support they need. My kids are my life and my education with hopefully help me give them the best possible life and opportunities that I can. College for me has been nothing but a great positive experience and has motivated me to challenge myself with any opportunity when it presents itself.

The college experience I have had is not what would be considered "the norm." For the past five years, I have attended college as a part-time student, because I was a full-time Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy. As soon as I entered the Navy, I was stationed overseas and had the opportunity to attend college on-base in Italy. I continued my education at my final duty station in Washington State while working full-time in a hospital. Balancing my studies with active duty obligations was not easy. The stress of the military lifestyle and required mentality made it difficult at times to allow me to fully devote time to my education, which was a priority from the beginning of my enlistment. However, it was to be expected--and is necessary--that the Navy came before all else. As well as having to always remain organized, attending college while in the military allowed me to value and appreciate education more than I could have ever imagined. Now, I look forward to attending the University of New Hampshire as a full-time student, and a veteran.

From my first semester in college, I have learned that you need to go out there and fight for what you want. Making friends in college is just as the same as making friends in any other setting, if you don't put yourself out there, no one is going to do it for you. College has showed me that if you just work for what you want and believe in, whether it be academics or social, you can achieve it. I started the semester out quiet and timid, shying away from others, but ended it with a new group of friends and a solid GPA. Anything is possible and UCF has showed me that my years here are going to be spent achieving the unachievable.

John

I have gotten an excellent group of friends that are all interested in attaining the same goal, a career in Athletic Training. I have come to enjoy the company of the fellow members in the athletic training program that I can honestly consider them an extension of my family. This is definitely the best part of my college experience I have gained so far.

William

Coming from a family in which no one has gone off to college in 4 generations, this has been one of the best and most influential experiences in my life. I have seen a large number of celebrities such as B.O.B, Charlie Murphy, and Ludacris. I have participated in the college homecoming traditions such as Spirit Splash. And most of all I have learned to be responsible and independent. Being on my own without my parents puts me in the position to make more decisions on my own. For example, usually i have my mom there to motivate me to get out of bed and go to class, but now i have to get up myself, look at the pros and cons, and realize that going to class is always the best option. To think that i hav only been thru 1 semester makes me so eager and ready to go back and embrace more of this college experience. Although its probably the hardest that i have ever worked academically, it is also the most fun that I've had my entire life.

Tyler

Even though I only have one semester of college under my belt, I feel like I have matured more in the last six months than I did in the prior eighteen years of my life. Not only have I matured intellectually due to my studies and schoolwork, but I have also learned the values of trust and respect. By having a blank slate to basically start a new life, I have had to see what friends I fit in with, as well as what activities I would like to participate in. Another very valuable asset that I have learned now that I am living on my own is time management. When a person lives at home and is constantly on a steady schedule, he or she does not have to worry about what time to come home, due to a curfew, or when to go to school, because it it mandatory. However in college, without the drive as well as the passion to be the best, you would fall behind and lose the opportunity to really excel in life. Moreover, after one semester I have developed a relentless attitude towards getting a degree and really making something of my life.

Natasha

My college experience has been something that I will truly never forget; it has been life-changing. When I first came to UCF, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. After one year of taking general ed. classes, I became a Sociology major. After taking some Criminology classes, I became a Criminal Justice major as well. My freedom to take the classes that I wanted to allowed me to discover things about myself that I may never have otherwise. UCF helped me realize my dreams of working in Law Enforcement and Investigations. The professors I have spoken with support this dream. I am in my senior year at UCF, and will be graduating next December. This year UCF has helped facilitate my participation in Internships with the UCF Police Department and now the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. These experiences have broadened my horizons and given me invaluable learning and life experiences. I hope to study Criminal Justice abroad in Russia this Summer. This scholarship would fund that trip as right now it is something I am struggling to accomplish. I am the kind of person who appreciates life and opportunities such as this.

Valerie

I believe that my college experience has opened my mind to new experiences and knowledge. It gives you a taste of what the real world is like. I have interacted with several different people from different cultures and ethnicities. I think I have gained a different perspective on life. Being in college is an immense transition. I feel that it has made me a stronger person and made me open my eyes to other things. In the past three years that I have been in college, I think I have developed more critical thinking skills and social skills to interact with others. College has been valuable to attend because it expands your knowledge in what is going on around you. It opens your mind up to new ideas and new experiences. It's the first door you walk through before many other doors are opened for your future.

Kristen

I have learned a lot of valuble information. I have also learned a lot about financial responsibility.

Julia

My college experience can be compared to an indie film; it’s been ever-changing, fast and unpredictable. From this came the most important thing I’ve faced in college, failure. As an Air Force ROTC cadet, if I had to take an extra semester of classes to make up for failed ones I would be kicked out of the program, and my dreams of becoming an Air Force officer would shatter. During my freshman year I made a bad decision to take the extra shift at work rather than study for an exam which ultimately lead to retaking the class. Fortunately the college credit I earned in high school allowed me to fit the class into my schedule without changing my graduation date. It’s the reality of failing and losing everything I’ve worked for that’s been the most valuable of college experiences. It’s taught m what it’s like to struggle and deal with pressure so that as an Officer, or in life in general, I will be smarter so as to make better decisions and stronger so that I can survive when the going is rough.

kaitlin

If I did not attend college I dont know where I would be right now. For the first year of college, it has helped me in many ways. College has made me more wise about my decisions and a better leader. I have gotten incredible experiences in my classes and want to pursue my dream as a Business Accountant. Being in college is a huge valuable piece in my future dreams and goals. Graduating college will also be very valuable for my goals and dreams.

Alan

The college experience has been very different from what I perceived it to be. I began to understand the definition of responsibility because college requires a lot of it. There is a lot of freedom given to you when you begin taking classes and it is easy to fall behind. I’ve learned that I possess self-discipline as I am able to wake up and attend class regularly. I have learned many other things that I did not learn in high school such as how to take notes and how to prepare for an exam. Attending college has been valuable for me to attend not only because it will provide me with a degree, but for many other reasons as well. I have met many people from all backgrounds studying in many fields. These are going to be the contributing members of our society and I have had the privilege of attending classes with them. The social benefits of academic organizations are also beneficial as you can become acquainted with people who share the same interests as you. Many things can be experienced in college than cannot be anywhere else.

Jeanne

I have returned to college after a 25 year absence and to this point it has given me a great sense of accomplishment. I have been able to explore options in the community college setting that I may not have been able to in a 4 year University. I have been able to find the profession that will suit my lifestyle and personality and open the work force to me after a length of absence while I was raising my children. The level of my self esteem raised after realizing I was capable to learn and complete the needed work while holding down a job. The experience of being a student has been beneficial for the position I have been working in while attending school. I am a high school study hall aide so I have been able to help many of the students go through scheduling, applying, financial aide that prior to my experience I would not have been able to assist them.

Christopher

Throughout my time as an undergraduate at the University of Central Florida, I have learned that my education is not just about achieving a degree. My education is not only preparing me for a future in my field of study, but it is also teaching me a lesson in responsibility by holding myself accountable for my academic actions and decisions. I have also learned that perseverence, hard work, and a positive attitude are the key components to being successful even after graduation. Upon retrospect, I feel that the value of my education greatly exceeds its worth in terms of tuition and fees. I hope to use what I have retained from my college experience so far to continue developing my skills as both a well-educated student and a productive member of society.

The most important experience that college has given me is that I have more potential then I thouhgt I did. This college has pushed me to be better and earn better grades than I did at other colleges. I have learned that I have untapped potential and can do anything that I set my mind to! I have exerienced great teachers and great new friends, and have learned to open my mind to ther opinions and beliefs.

The greatest thing I have learned from my college experience is that I am able to work better under stress and that giving up doesn't make me feel better or relieved. My first two semesters of college weren't a breeze but I could handle the amount of work. However, the third semester I took three french classes (my major is foreign languages) and the amount of work for those three classes was more than that of the past semesters; not to mention I was taking also an art history class and a statistics class. At some point in the semester I felt like I was going to fail all my classes! But I decided than crying about it wouldn't help so I started color coding my planner (which became my best friend!) and stopped procrastinating (my former best friend). At the end of the semester, all my hard (really hard, I should say) work paid off. I managed to get four A's and one B+ (3 points away from getting straight A's !), and a 3.8 GPA! Better than my 3.5 GPA the first two semesters!

I have gotten the experience of being away from home and earning more responsibilites to help me become more mature and noticed that I can makre it in this world as long as I stay focus and make sure that everything I do will help me become more and more successful. It is valuable to attend and I'm still attending because it is helping me to develop qualities to benefit me and other around me.

I was going to answer this prompt formally and decided that the best way to truly convey what I have learned at the University of Central Florida would be just to write it directly. To start off one of the most important and valuable things I have learned is that anything in life is attainable with the application of yourself to the fullest. There are thousands of different resources in and around UCF but in ordered to take advantage of it all you must be willing to use and apply them. This is the same in life. There is an unlimited amount of knowledge in the world the can help you be the best but it is only as good as the person that chooses to use it. UCF has also taught me positivity breeds positivity. The more positive I am the more likely people around you are going to be positive. Living on campus showed me this. If i could go through everything I have learned at UCF I could write pages upon pages but the most important that I could ever learn is the core essentials that make me driven, motivated, and hopeful for the future.

College is not all about education or what you learn in the classrom. Although books provides great information, knowledge is acquired through personal experiences, field trips, and teacher's expertise. The value you get through knowledge is more than any amount of money, because this is the useful skills you use towards your future. If you don't attend class, you will be unable to succeed with these useful skills while your peers will go forth with success in their future.
