I think that it is a great school with great opportunities. There are a ton of things I like about the University of Kansas City Missouri like the resources given to us, how nice the staff and teachers are, and how the school is always busy so people feel safer when they are alone.
UMKC is an excellent university to prosper in! With several scholarship opportunities, you can graduate debt-free! I am. Teachers respond to you in a timely manner through email or office hours. Also, the environment is extremely welcoming! I have never felt uncomfortable at UMKC, honestly. I would highly recommend this college, which also boasts Division-1 sports teams, as a place for incoming students.
UMKC is an extremely diverse school filled with over 350 different organizations, great teachers, a nice campus setting, and great shopping and dining places in the area.
My experience as both an undergraduate and graduate student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City was good. I was a non-traditional student in both instances. My professors in the graduate program were much more accessible as they only managed School of Social Work students. As a working student, it was good for me to have options for when and how I could take my courses. But it was more important that I had professors who were flexible. Often, some professors could be inflexible and forgot what it was like to be a student who manages multiple roles and experience life’s challenges. Throughout my pursuit of a master’s degree, all of my professors understood that, and I did not suffer academically for those life challenges. I was always an intellectual student. But I could not always have perfect attendance, and occasionally needed an assignment extension. Without a professor’s flexibility, I would not have succeeded. Conversely, during my undergraduate career, not all of my professors were as flexible. Although most were, some were not. Those who held strict standards, created challenges for me. Of course, they are likely challenges students will meet at any institution. Moreover, while I appreciated the diversity among students, I still believe that more diversity is needed among the faculty with respect to race/ethnicity. But I am sure that the university will continue to work on that. When I graduated, I joined the faculty on a part-time basis as an Adjunct Professor, because I am deeply connected to the students and want to help them succeed. I determined that if I wanted to see more diversity and flexibility, I needed to be part of that change.

If I have a chance to talk to myself as a high school senior is to let me know that I should not let anyone suggest what to study in college; otherwise, I would end up unhappy with what I am doing in my academics and in my life. I should also tell myself to apply and look for more colleges, instead of being limited by one college choice. Also, I should tell myself not to let anyone influence myself to go to a specific college, and I should explore many other colleges with similar academic programs I want to study.
My fellow classmates are a very diverse group of people.
I wish I had known that it is mostly a commuter school.
Close to home (for me), and lack of school spirit makes sporting events not as exciting.
The best think UMKc offers is it's plethora of degrees offered. Because the school offers a variety of different programs, it is highly probable that anyone can attend the university and study in an area of interest that will benefit them for the rest of his/her life.
I would desribe my school as a home away from home because it is in my communnity that i grew up in and yet it very diverse and a corfortable place to learn and is full of many great professors.
When I first attended UMKC, I was not prepared. I was at school for the wrong reasons. I was there for the social experience, when I should have been there to learn. I was more concerned about girls, parties, and campus activities. I lost track of my time management. My grades took a terrible downward spiral. If I could give advice to prospective students of UMKC, I would tell them, "Don't come here to party. If you're not here to learn, then you're going to fail. Have your priorities in order."
UMKC is best known for it's outstanding academic and athletic acheivement. It's located in the heart of Kansas City offering all who attend a valuable cultural experience
What is unique about this school is we have an awesome library with a robotic arm. You type in what book you want and the arm gets it for you. The gym facility is very neat. We have a retractable roof on the pool for sunny days. And lastly what is neat about UMKC is it uses the old Mansions from the early 1900s to late 1800s as class rooms instead of wasting money on building new buildings.
The most frustrating thing of my school is balancing my classes and my social life. It is not easy to be on a full-scholarship and still keep your grades up. Another thing that is very frustating is the same food in the cafeteria everyday. Even though I eat it, however sometimes it is not cooked all the way sometimes. And lastly the most frustrating thing about college is how all the assighments and communicationis by internet, and sometimes the wireless internet is not always working for my laptop.
I would say I brag about the computer labs the most
Someone who is looking for something different than they have always had. Very diverse culture here.
UMKC has its high moments, as well as its low ones. It does stand out on several points, where the Nursing Program is one of the best, if not the best, in the nation. I do believe that most Nursing Program students do have an overly heavy workload. In general, UMKC is probably one of the most family bound schools I've been to or read or heard about. Everyone is very friendly with one another, and helpful to their best abilities. I think with the size of the school, we really have no choice but to be a family. It's not too big, but it's not too small if you walk the entire campus. I often get this question or why'd I choose this school and what do I like most, or are there a lot of parties. It is college, everything you hear and read about is what you'll get if you go searching for it. There are several ways to get involved on campus, there is always someone you can ask for help, and in a world of freedom, you can never get lost. I wouldn't change anything about this school for the simple fact that you can never get sidetracked if you commit to focusing. Now UMKC isn't in a real college town, though everywhere you go, you may hear someone ask about it or KU. But there is a lot of school pride due to the connection between all of the students that attend. The most recent and biggest controversy on campus may have been the stealing activities that took place in the garage of the apartment complex, which led to surveillance by on campus police. The most frequent complaints from students were the lack of available parking due to the remodeling of another parking garage, that should be finished by the end of the year. One of my most memorable moments at this school, was when we had a string of events for everyone who attended the school that wanted to participate, called Wing Wars. My team was in a very unusual position in a dodgeball game, with only a girl left to compete on our team and four competitors on the opposition, my team subbed me in to go on to win a victory and a lot of commencement from my fellow students.
UMKC is very big on academics and probably prefers you commit as a student first over and before anything else. UMKC does go out of their way to assist you if you need help, and they want you to use every piece of assistance that you need. Even inside of the classroom, professors are usually easy about asking them for help and providing their office hours for availability, even opening up other times that they may feel is necessary for their students to receive extra help to succeed in the course. Professors normally learn your name and face in 2 to 3 visits, so it's always best to attend class, even if it is at 8 o'clock in the morning. I don't have a favorite class because I'm a Journalism major and I get to express myself in almost every class I attend, which I love to do. It is easy to get lost within conversation if you don't speak your mind and just listen and not ask questions though, so I strongly encourage it. Let me emphasize the will to study on your spare time. More than not, if you go to one of the libraries on campus, it is normally difficult to find a seat that you want, especially if it's more than just you and a friend. Students at UMKC study probably 4 out of 5 times throughout the school week. I find it very helpful because students are having more in tune and conceptual conversations outside of their classrooms, which I find highly amazing. Like with my major, Journalism, students have to read a lot meaning we learn a lot, so we often learn new words fast and use them more often than not, even with fellow friends of different majors and departments. I do find it necessary and useful to have conversations at the least with your professors because they may be able to give you some information that you thought you'd never find or even need. The professors can steer you towards different internships and job opportunities on and off campus, if you just ask. Now UMKC is an easy school to get into, you just have to commit early and let nothing stop you from getting in. You have to know that it's what you want to do.
Mostly interested students that have goals to work towards, a very competitive area. I guess you could say mostly geeks are what are found at UMKC.
There are several student activities and groups for students to participate in. The most popular activities and groups are the ones that you're a part of. No activity or groups is better than the next, you just have to find the ones that interest you the most. I'm currently involved within different groups for my major, writing for magazines, websites, and newspapers. It is what I prefer to do, and I absolutely love it. Most of the time you just have to find yourself. It is easy get along with anyone on campus, just with conversation. A lot of students that stay in the dorms for example, tend to leave their doors open for friends to come in and introduce themselves and familiarize their self with other individuals. This leads to open conversations about different events, from parties to sports games on and off campus, to stepping events by fraternities to movie nights in the Student Union. These events normally lead to people getting into intimate relationships with others because they connect with similar interests. Some interests may be a traditional event that occurs each year like when a fraternity throws a step-show and an after-party with surprise guests. The fraternities and sororities are very important because they normally have information about the upcoming events.
UMKC was my first choice of my college life, not only because it is very close to home but also because of its great academic and student facilitates it offers, I feel as though the tuition fees and amount that I pay for school is actually quite worth it. There are very large student centers and places that will help you with your school work and make sure you understand whats going on. I mostly joined because of the wide range of great programs at UMKC and because it the pricing was more suitable for me. I would recommend this school to anyway that wants a fun and full of great experiences, while learning and becoming what they want!
